Venus in Aries: Cy Twombly

“It’s more like I’m having an experience than making a picture.” — Cy Twombly Cy Twombly’s work is unmistakable: giant scribbles, smudges, words and phrases crash together across vast stretches of white. They look as if they’ve been made in an instant, a flash, a dash, a moment of possession — a child’s response to the world. Yet the world to which Twombly responds is adult and intellectual. He chose to live in the glorious encrustation of Rome where he could have direct experience every day of deep Western culture. His knowledge of myth and history was profound. So why did he […]

May 19th, 2017: Enjoy What You Have

Arthur Hacker

  • Sun in Taurus squares the North Node in Leo/South Node in Aquarius: 28 degrees
  • Venus in Aries opposes Jupiter Rx in Libra: 13 degrees
  • Mars in Gemini inconjunct Pluto Rx in Capricorn: 19 degrees

The Taurus Sun (ruling the North Node) presents you with a choice. There’s something you’re struggling to preserve or build up, and ideally, it should make you proud (Leo North Node). But a situation from the past, involving disruption or detachment, may tempt you to throw up your hands and walk away. Not so fast – this is the moment where you stand fast and say “Look what I’ve created.” Walk towards the spotlight. Enjoy what you have.

Venus/Jupiter hits the same degree Venus was at when she stationed Rx in Aries (March 4th). This culmination will be based on that date. Results may be big and beautiful, as you receive a massive helping of what you want. But this aspect can also exaggerate Venus themes, so expectations about relationships/money may encourage you to push it too far/spend too much. Nonetheless, any aspect between Venus and Jupiter (especially Jupiter in Venus-ruled Libra) suggests social opportunity – there should be a way to attract more of what you love. Think back to March 4th for a hint about what these results might be.

Mars/Pluto suggests uneven arguments or choices. Mars’ assertiveness is fired up by Pluto, but unconscious factors can trigger actions/anger that end up being far more intense than the situation warrants. Before you choose, consider your true motivation. If you’re on the receiving end of someone’s pushiness, consider that they may not be fully aware of what they’re doing.

May 18th, 2017: Saturn/Uranus Trine

  • Saturn Rx in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries (26 degrees): evening of May 18th/morning of May 19th depending on time zone

Tonight or early tomorrow morning (depending on where you live) Saturn will perfect his trine to Uranus. Change (Uranus) is given form and focus (Saturn). New (Uranus) rules (Saturn) are implemented.

If you have any planets around 26 degrees of the Cardinal signs, Uranus is currently shaking you up with hard aspects. Saturn is the stabilizer, and the reassurance that you’re not crazy. There really is something you can do with that restless urge or desire for escape. You can turn this into something real, as long as you’re prepared to work (Saturn). And, you have to moderate that initial impulse to do something extreme or risky. Saturn wants you to calm down and look at the opportunity. What can you do with this? Something needs to change, that’s for sure. What’s a sensible approach?

However, note that a trine is about flow – natural progress. Don’t confuse “work” with “force.” If you’re trying to force something to happen, or the change feels wrong, forget it.

This is the second of three Saturn/Uranus trines:

  • Dec 24th, 2016: Saturn trine Uranus Rx (20 deg)
  • Nov 11th, 2017: Saturn trine Uranus Rx (25 deg)

It’s also part of a current Grand Fire Trine, including the transiting North Node in Leo

In general, Saturn/Uranus is about measured progress. It’s ideal for edging forward into new territory that makes you uneasy. You can go slow – no one’s rushing you.

New Moon in Gemini: You Have Choices

JW Alexander

JW Alexander

The May 25th New Moon in Gemini (4 degrees) is unaspected – it makes no close aspects to other planets. This means it’s “pure” in the sense that its energy is uninfluenced.

What does pure Gemini suggest? Completely new ideas and multiple choices. Information that’s quick but unstable – it may fluctuate between A and B. Facts that open up new layers of possibility.

The vibe is bright and curious. This Moon could have you asking “What’s this?” Check it out, but remember that a New Moon is only the first step. It’s dark and newly birthed. With a Mutable sign like Gemini, you’ll have to follow the facts to see if they make sense.

Nonetheless, keep your eyes open. And be flexible. One answer will not suffice. There will be more than one path. The issue may be complicated, with shifting priorities.

Venus in Aries will make an exact square with Pluto Rx in Capricorn (19 degrees) on the same day. So it will be connected to the events of this New Moon. It’s an interesting counterpoint, because it suggests an all-or-nothing crisis over what you love/want. Compulsive attractions, or struggles for power over money/relationships/self-esteem.

Appropriately, Venus and Pluto are making a First Quarter Square – a new way of approaching Venus themes is revealed via the crisis of compulsion, obsession or fear of loss. What’s so compelling is actually a reflection of what you’d like to initiate (Aries) within yourself. Your new values. Viewing Venus/Pluto aspects in this way can be helpful – it allows you step away from the consuming situation, and recognize that the external person/thing is not all-powerful.

And you’ll have a New Moon that’s brimming with fresh ideas, to get you started. You’re not stuck, no matter how frustrating Venus/Pluto is. You’re already in new territory, and you have choices about how you’ll handle that Venus issue.
