Pisces Full Moon: Do Nothing

At the end of each summer, like clockwork, I used to anticipate surviving the fall. Thinking about back-to-school, carpooling kids, back-to-school events, weekend social calendars, travel plans… as life spun like a top perilously close to the edge of the table, I believed I could alleviate this feeling of over-extension by getting everything in order. […]

Men, Women And Unrequited Love

Unrequited love is a fairly common story.  What’s unusual is that it seems to dog men and women fairly equally. There not many things that fit this bill. As far as a marker in a chart goes, pining is a … Read More…

Mars’ Transit of Virgo: The Pursuit Of Perfection

Mars’ Virgo ingress takes place on September 5th at 5:34 AM EDT.

Actions can be productive or obsessive, depending on how the intense perfectionism is handled. Mars in Virgo can help you get organized and initiate solutions – you’re no longer just talking about making it better, you’re actually doing something. But if you get stuck in crisis mode (it’s all wrong, it’s too much, I’ll never be ready) this can be a panicky, unproductive time.

This is not your typical hot -tempered transit – Virgo is the “service sign.” But Mars in Virgo can trigger anger if a situation does not meet certain standards. Those standards can be sensible or irrational – as with all signs, Virgo’s energy runs the gamut. The healthy manifestation would look like a clean, empowering upgrade. Anger/frustration at falling short can fuel tremendous work (on yourself or an external goal). What’s wasteful or below par is ruthlessly cut out. This is how things get done, and done correctly. The unhealthy manifestation would involve sadistic insistence on an impossible-to-achieve standard. You end up punishing yourself or someone else, because of a microscopic flaw.

Virgo is about what’s missing and what’s not good enough. In this context, Mars is driven to find the elusive prize – just one more adjustment and you’ll find X or make it perfect. In all Mars matters (sex, action, initiation) this means technique over raw impulse. Every move is refined, and has a specific purpose. But it can also mean a fruitless pursuit of something better, when what you have is just fine.

Also on September 5th, Mercury (ruler of Virgo) stations direct at 28 degrees Leo, which is the same degree as the August 21st New Moon eclipse. There’s forward movement, as Mars carries an event from that eclipse into new territory. Now that you have all the facts, you can take targeted action. There’s nothing random about this – you must have a specific plan. The Virgo Sun opposes Neptune Rx in Pisces, which refers to the September 6th Full Moon. Even as you’re gearing up to do it right, something that’s beyond your control is flowing forward – an expansion or ending. Don’t worry about what you can’t control. Focus on what’s in front of you.

Here are the aspects Mars in Virgo will make:

  • September 10th: trine Juno in Capricorn (3 deg)
  • September 24th: opposite Neptune Rx in Pisces (12 deg)
  • September 26th: trine Pallas Rx in Taurus (13 deg)
  • October 1st: trine Pluto in Capricorn (16 deg)
  • October 5th: conjunct Venus (19 deg)
  • October 11th: square Saturn in Sagittarius (22 deg)
  • October 15th: opposite Chiron Rx in Pisces (25 deg)
  • October 17th: inconjunct Uranus Rx in Aries (26 deg)
