Mars enters Aries on December 31st, giving us all a fresh surge of courage and passion as we face down the New Year.
Mars rules Aries, so the planet of action, anger, sex and initiative is at full strength. Excellent for jump-starting a new project, regime or lifestyle. Or, for making the first move. Where Aries sits in your chart is where Mars will be heating things up. However, Mars in Aries is impatient and impulsive, so staying power is not always great.
Yes, Mars will be making difficult squares to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn (dates and degrees below) but I see these as challenges to be met and corners to be turned. If any planetary energy is ready to power you through a challenge, it’s Mars in Aries. You may experience these squares as frustrations, blocks or confrontations with others (I’ll go into more detail in the daily posts) and you will have to slow down. But Saturn and Pluto can be the grit that gives you traction and tests your courage. And, Saturn especially will be the test that proves if what you’ve started will continue. Will you commit (Saturn) to this course of action (Mars)?

Jan 18th: trine Venus in Sagittarius (11 deg)
Jan 21st: square Saturn in Capricorn (13 deg)
Jan 25th: trine Jupiter in Sagittarius (16 deg)
Jan 29th: sextile Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius (16 deg)
Feb 1st: square Pluto in Capricorn (21 deg)
Feb 7th: sexitle Mercury in Aquarius (25 deg)
Feb 9th: square the South Node in Capricorn/North Node in Cancer (26 deg)
Feb 13th: conjunct Uranus (29 deg)
Feb 13th: opposite Pallas in Libra (29 deg)
Feb 14th: Taurus ingress
Waning Sextile between the Scorpio Moon and Capricorn Sun (10 deg)
Pluto in Capricorn trine Juno in Taurus (20 deg)
Building up to the January 5th New Moon Capricorn eclipse, the Waning Sextile enables the refinement of emerging structures via a peek at what’s going on beneath. Scorpio hints at more below the surface – secrets and emotional intensity. What’s deeper can blend easily with the rules, so you can add form to intensity and depth to what you’re defining. In other words, what’s manifesting won’t be uncontrolled obsession/wallowing but it won’t be a rigid, emotionless cage either.
Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) makes a supportive trine to Juno, suggesting that the above will involve the empowering transformation of a fixed relationship agreement.
We’ve seen this trine before, on December 23rd (when Juno was Rx) so this is the completion of a process that’s been going on for awhile. The slow, steady evolution of a commitment has led you to this moment – how do your rules and boundaries look now?

The tension between high-energy Mars and restrained Saturn will color the next three weeks with frustration. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; after all, an out-of-control toddler who is hyped up on sugar is frustrated when her mother calls a time-out, but the rest of the world breathes a sigh of relief. Saturn represents the civilizing force that funnels wild energy into productive channels.
