An astrological forecast of 2019: Part one, an overview

A quick look back There is a famous Chinese curse that goes something along the lines of “May you live in an interesting age” and that is certainly true of the time that we are living in at the moment.  Fortunately we have at our disposal a tool to make some sense of the chaos […]

New Moon Eclipse in Capricorn

The first eclipse of 2019 occurs on January 5th at 15 deg Capricorn. It conjoins Saturn (11 deg) and Pluto (20 deg).

This one will be heavy – Capricorn is about status, reality, rules and authority. It’s a New Moon eclipse which means new beginnings, and they will be strictly defined (Saturn). But you’ve got Pluto in there as well, digging up the stuff that lies beneath the foundation. This suggests a new definition of power (Pluto) based on a major transformation that’s changing reality in the Capricorn-occupied house(s) of your chart.

This will be the start of a huge shift that culminates with the January 12th, 2020 Saturn/Pluto conjunction (22 deg). That’s what this eclipse is pointing towards – a journey that will involve the death (Pluto) of the old order and birth of new structures/rules. For some, 2020 might bring a confirmation of power. For others, a purge that wipes away what they currently have. Much will depend on how your responsibilities and resources are currently being handled.

This eclipse will present the first hints of what’s coming. Are you on the right track or does something need to change? Remember that Saturn is about being accountable.

This eclipse will make a sextile to Neptune in Pisces, so there’s a slight softening of the edge – a whisper that reminds you there’s a dream or higher goal in the works. If you play your cards right, you can manifest a belief that goes beyond your immediate reality. A higher goal. And, there’s a also a Grand Water Trine consisting of Venus in Scorpio trine the Cancer North Node trine Chiron in Pisces. Healing/compassion (Chiron) is enabled by a move into emotionally authentic territory (North Node) which connects to a deep commitment (Scorpio) to what you want or love (Venus). In essence, there will be an emotional undercurrent that encourages you to tap into what feels essential.

So it won’t be all about power and rules. But the Water energy will be behind the scenes and the Capricorn energy will dominate. There’s a structure in your life that’s changing – perhaps there’s a physical change. Maybe you need to work on those boundaries or get to work on building something new. Maybe you need to grow up.

This eclipse and the Saturn/Pluto conjunction will not let anyone off easy, but the good news is you have a year’s head start. And if you’ve been sticking with the Saturn/Pluto program (maturity, discipline, acceptance of change) you’ll be just fine. And there might even be a reward waiting for you.
