Mars in Scorpio’s domineering seducer will threaten Moon in Aries’ fiery warrior. But if they can get past their differences, their combined passions will be nuclear-strength.
New Moon Eclipse in Virgo: The Saturn/Neptune Publishing House
The September 1st New Moon eclipse (at 9 degrees Virgo) is all about the Saturn/Neptune square. New beginnings will be based on the square’s shifting versions of reality. Your eyes may have to adjust to these freshly printed truths.
The Sun and Moon will square Saturn in Sagittarius and oppose Neptune Rx in Pisces. Everything I wrote about here , has been building through August. And maybe as far back as November 2015, when the square first took shape. This eclipse will be the cherry on top of the sundae that’s been melting and freezing, melting and freezing.
The new facts (Virgo) will be the results of old ideas/structures dissolving, and new potentials gelling. This process is anxiety-making. As I wrote in an earlier post:
“Squares create discomfort, and this square will make you uncomfortable because you’ll be confronting an illusion, or fear. Or both….trying to fight under a Neptune square is tricky. The target can shift and dissolve.”
It won’t be a triumphant eclipse. There will be some humbling. This is Virgo, after all. You may have to give something up. But, if you’ve held fast in the face of dissolving evidence, insisting that your faith was aligned with the right thing, this eclipse might prove you correct. Not with a blast of trumpets, but with a quiet *click* as the confirmation arrives. But this will only happen if you’ve been tuned into the real deal. If you’ve been trying to prop up a fantasy…get ready to say goodbye.
The Mars/Saturn conjunction from August 24th, and Mars/Neptune square from August 26th, will also be featured, as Mars will still be close to Saturn/Neptune. Which takes us back to August 13th, when Saturn stationed direct at the degree it conjoined Mars. Or, back to April 17th, when Mars stationed Rx. Any or all of these dates could hold an important clue about what will go down, during the eclipse. The Mars trigger could involve work that needs to be completed, or action/anger that’s been denied and undermined. Mars battling Saturn/Neptune is like running on shifting sand dunes. And yet, you find a way to move forward.
Before we get too discouraged, let’s take note that Mercury Rx (ruler of this eclipse) will be very close to Jupiter in Virgo, at 28 degrees. That’s some good news (due to a review or repeat), no matter what the eclipse brings. This harkens back to August 22nd, when Mercury direct first conjoined Jupiter (another key date with an eclipse hint).
The facts will be hopeful, or at least helpful. Jupiter rules Sagittarius, so there’s an indication that you can grow within Saturn’s new realities. Jupiter always means expansion, and Neptune is also an expansive influence. Any losses or restrictions were just side-effects of you being shifted into a new position. Now that you’re correctly aligned, you can move onwards and upwards.
Finally, this eclipse is aligned with the Virgo North Node/Pisces South Node. The bigger picture is about new facts/information pointing you forward so you can develop something whose time has come. The future is real, and this eclipse will give you a guidebook, hot off the Saturn/Neptune press.
You’ll notice the multiple dates connected to this eclipse. In true Mutable fashion, its impact has been unfolding in layers. To clarify, I’ll give you a list. The dates before September 1st have provided clues about what the eclipse will bring. The dates after September 1st will indicate possible delayed eclipse events, or information yet to be uncovered. An additional layer may unfold, but for now (September 1st) it’s not quite ready. A prime example is the Full Moon eclipse in Pisces, later in September.

August 19th, 2016: Mercury in Virgo Opposite Chiron, Saturn in Sag inconjunct Vesta
By Joos van Cleve (circa 1485 – 1540/1541) – Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org
You won’t get it perfect today. You’ll be challenged to help/care/nurture the best you can, when it feels like your best attempts are being blocked.
Mercury in Virgo opposes Chiron Rx in Pisces and makes a sharp inconjunct to Uranus Rx in Aries, at 24 degrees. Digging for the truth behind the flaw will trigger unexpected results. There may be harsh criticisms, or the impulsive urge to correct someone. If you see something that’s just begging for improvement, take note. Acknowledge the issue, but know that you won’t be able to say the perfect thing that makes it all better. And, someone else may not be interested in your helpful suggestions.
Saturn in Sagittarius makes an inconjunct to Vesta, at 9 degrees Cancer. Vesta’s devotion to an emotional or security issue is blocked by Saturn’s external obligations/rules. The pressure to care for someone can feel impossible. Where there’s resistance, know that you need to step back and accommodate outside rules and your focus. It will be uncomfortable, but necessary.

Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius: Electric Download
Reminder about tomorrow’s eclipse…
The August 18th Full Moon Lunar eclipse hits 25 degrees Aquarius. There’s some debate as to whether it’s an actual eclipse or just a Full Moon. The Earth’s shadow will brush up against the edge of the Moon, and will not be visible. Either way, it’s going to be a culmination, perhaps a little less than a eclipse, but a little more than a regular Full Moon.
The big news is the Yod that’s tied in with this lunation. The Aquarius Moon makes a sextile to Uranus Rx, at 24 degrees Aries. The Moon and Uranus make inconjuncts to Jupiter in Virgo, at 25 degrees. Uranus is the ruler of this eclipse/Full Moon, so the energy of liberation and surprise will be emphasized. Even though this is a culmination based on the past month or so, the results may be unexpected. Moon sextile Uranus is very supportive for a fresh breakaway. A clean break, perhaps. The Leo Sun’s trine to Uranus feeds the fire of innovation and courage.
Whatever happens, there should be a sense of “I can do this!”
But that Yod to Jupiter. When it’s the focal point, you can expect exaggerated reactions/endings. Jupiter will be your key – the task or reason or next step. In Virgo, we can assume something involving information, solutions, or improvements. And Jupiter will conjoin Mercury (at 23 degrees) so maybe a very educational conversation or announcement.
What you learn during this Full Moon will be instrumental in your next step to freedom. What you learn may surprise you.
The tension of the inconjuncts lie in the disconnect between practical Virgo and the freedom-seeking Moon/Uranus sextile. You may want to burn that bridge and jet off into the future. And this lunation certainly encourages a leap into the future. But that leap must be based on careful application of knowledge. There will be words of wisdom, or an understanding, that you’ll need to ground yourself with.
The Uranus/Aquarian energy may be a bit much for some to handle. You could be left breathless, as understanding is wrenched wide open (Uranus delivers clarity via shock). Jupiter asks you to expand on what you already know, using this electric download. But do it carefully. If you’re caught off guard, take a breath. Consider the facts. Your goal is to focus this eclipse’s sparkling, volatile energy into something that makes sense.
Winds of Change
As promised, here is a lengthier explanation of the coming series of astrological events that rock the mutable signs, and with them the whole Zodiac. I felt there wasn’t quite enough room in the monthly horoscopes for this since it covers the end of August and some of September. This is part of a big pattern unfolding over the coming months that includes Saturn, Neptune, Mars and the eclipses. I’ve included a brief outline of how it might work for your Sun sign, but I leave it to you to ponder wider ramifications. This long essay is for subscribers only. […]
