Visit to Glasgow

I’ll be visiting Glasgow this week and swinging by Aquarius Rising to answer astrological questions on Saturday, 24 February. I’ll be chatting with my friend Anne Whitaker, local author, astrologer and general wise woman.  If you’re around, do drop by. I’m happy to chat about anything – within reason! Obvs. It’s just a last minute […]

Astrology of Now: Venus Exalted

My daughters’ favourite moment during the recent Venus Retrograde was their discovery of a large skeleton in a lonely, crumbling ruin by the edge of the roaring Atlantic — even the 13 year old lost her composure for a full moment. They burst out of the broch — a 10th century miniature fort — and into the rain, terrified and thrilled. Then they crawled back through the dark, muddy tunnel for a closer look. The 40-day Venus retrograde can be read as Venus’ journey through the Underworld. Perhaps this was a little re-enactment of that story of Inanna’s journey to the Kur, the Sumerian hell. As you […]

UK Election: Breaking Up Is Never Easy

What happened here last night was momentous: a seismic shift in the “political geology” of this country took place. Scotland, which just one year ago chose to stay part of the United Kingdom in a referendum,  voted almost unanimously for the Nationalist Party. As expected, leader Nicola Sturgeon’s Jupiter transit to her Midheaven was spectacularly decisive. All but three Scottish MP sitting in the House of Commons will be members of her party. For the benefit of American readers, it was as if, say, Texas voted in an entire congressional cohort that wanted independence for the state, or think of […]

Scottish Independence: Change Is Coming

In just a few weeks, the people of Scotland will decide whether or not to remain part of the United Kingdom. This is momentous. Of course if the polls are right. Scotland will vote to stay part of the UK and we’ll all just carry on as usual. England, Scotland and Wales — Great Britain —  together have been a powerhouse of industry, creativity and influence in the world for the last 400 years, since James IV of Scotland inherited the English throne from his Aunt Elizabeth and became James I of England too. (It didn’t become official until 1707, see below.) Admittedly, […]
