October 23rd: Scorpio Season

The Sun enters Scorpio on October 23rd (7:22 AM EDT). Now we arrive at the season of darkness, intensity, obscurity and truth.

In order to get to the Scorpio gold (which is raw truth and courageous intimacy) you have to go deep- you have to face the taboos, the secrets, the ugly stuff. You have to experience and accept powerlessness, and through this, gain an understanding of your own power. Often what’s revealed is not pleasant, so “gold” may not seem like an appropriate word. But the highest version of this energy is pure intimacy (complete merging with another) and/or the absolute knowledge of your own Shadow. When you face down your demons, there’s nothing left to undermine you.

Scorpio energy can be vicious and destructive when misused. Or, it can be profoundly loyal and completely accepting of what terrifies and repels other people. It’s never superficial. It is associated with death, but often it’s a metaphorical death – the complete ending that must happen before you can transform yourself and your situation. Then, you rise up stronger than before.

This is the season to get real, but not in the same way as the Earth signs. Scorpio-real is profound emotional honesty, which includes all the messy, passionate “too much/too heavy” feelings.

Today’s Transits

  • Sun in Scorpio opposite Uranus Rx in Taurus:0 deg

  • Sun in Scorpio inconjunct Juno Rx in Gemini: 0 deg

I’ve combined today’s daily transit post with the Scorpio ingress, because they are directly connected.

Today’s opposition to Uranus Rx in Taurus will define this Scorpio season because it’s the first major aspect and occurs on the ingress. The bolt of Uranian clarity will manifest as disruption for some (disruption of power or secrets) and complete realization for others (the deepest “a ha”). The opposition can be a result, ending or delivery from an external source. Whether it’s a dark suprise or light illuminating the gloom, know that it will be the truth.

The October 24th Full Moon will carry this forward.

If you want to know more about Uranus’ transit of Taurus and how it might apply to you, I’ve written a downloadable PDF that you can purchase, here.

Also, the Sun makes an inconjunct to Juno Rx in Gemini, so a sub-theme to this reveal may be a glitch in the details of a new relationship agreement. The necessity to look behind the scenes for answers (or intimacy) will have to be adjusted with certain facts- there’s an incompatibility here involving truth and intimacy.

Interestingly, the Scorpio Sun will aspect Uranus and Juno Rx again towards the end of Scorpio season (see the list below) but this time the inconjunct will be to Uranus Rx in Aries and the Sun will oppose Juno Rx in Taurus. Now, the Sun’s dark spotlight will illuminate what lies beneath surface security (and rigid habits) of a relationship, and this will have to be adjusted with an agitation for freedom. Note that Uranus and Juno are both Rx, so these issues will not be new.

Overall, this Scorpio season seems to be about the truth behind an agreement/contract you’ve made. You’ll look at it from multiple angles. Remember that Scorpio starts out with secrets and obscured (occult) information, but if you dig deep enough (and you’re brave enough) you’ll arrive at the truth.

Here are the aspects the Sun in Scorpio will make:

  • Oct 23rd: opposition to Uranus Rx in Taurus (1 deg)

  • Oct 23rd: inconjunct Juno Rx in Gemini (0 deg)

  • Oct 24th: square the Leo/Aquarius Nodes (1 deg)

  • Oct 26th: conjunct Venus Rx (3 deg)

  • Oct 27th: sextile Saturn in Capricorn (4 deg)

  • Nov 2nd: square Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius (9 deg)

  • Nov 6th: trine Neptune Rx in Pisces (13 deg)

  • Nov 7th: New Moon (15 deg Scorpio)

  • Nov 11th: sextile Pluto in Capricorn (19 deg)

  • Nov 14th: sextile Vesta in Capricorn (22 deg)

  • Nov 17th: opposite Juno Rx in Taurus (25 deg)

  • Nov 20th: trine Chiron Rx in Pisces (28 deg)

  • Nov 20th: trine the North Node in Cancer (28 deg)

  • Nov 21st: inconjunct Uranus Rx in Aries (29 deg)

  • Nov 22nd: Sagittarius ingress

Fear Of The Dark

Hi friends! We’re still being led into an overwhelming amount of darkness as powerful Sun leaves harmonizing Libra on Tuesday, October 23, to join Mercury, Venus and Jupiter in the transformative realm of Scorpio. During the next four weeks, some of us will be quite fixed and comfortable in the darkness with our ‘big’ little […]

October 22nd, 2018: Gentle Truths

  • Waxing Inconjunct between the Pisces Moon and Libra Sun (28 deg)

  • Moon conjunct Chiron Rx in Pisces (28 deg)

  • Sun in Libra inconjunct Chiron Rx in Pisces (28 deg)

  • Mercury in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn (18 deg)

The Waxing Inconjunct will hi-light something that needs to be acknowledged before the October 24th Taurus Full Moon.

The Sun’s inconjunct to Chiron Rx is part of this – while the Pisces Moon/Chiron conjunction will encourage immersion (no boundaries) in what feels sensitive, this immersion will need to be balanced (Libra) with the awareness of others (Libra is the relationship sign). Empathy will be key – what are they going through? You may find some common ground.

As I wrote in yesterday’s post, this is a “poignant and peaceful” energy, and the Libra influence certainly doesn’t indicate disruption. But consider if what you’re feeling connects you to someone else. There may be a wound or embarrassment that specifically involves one-on-one relationships.

Mercury/Pluto encourages the exploration of intensive (Scorpio) truths in an non-invasive way. Words will have an impact, but they can be spoken gently because the sextile is soft aspect. Information can be uncovered and it doesn’t have to be earth-shattering. Overall, today’s vibe is compassionate and honest.

  • Waxing Trine between the Aquarius Moon and Libra Sun (26 deg)

  • Mercury in Scorpio trine Neptune Rx in Pisces (14 deg)

  • Mercury in Scorpio square Mars in Aquarius (14 deg)

Waxing Trine

The Waxing Trine indicates a natural flow between partnership and independence, one-on-one and the group. All the social angles are covered, making it easy to connect with others on various levels. The catch is that you have to keep it light – the Air signs call for detachment and intellectual connections. Overall, this trine has a lively vibe that that enables the progress of any type of relationship.

Mercury

Despite the flow of the trine, Mercury’s square to Mars does suggest that communication will be tense. The urge to dig deep for answers (and this can be rooted in the desire to control by knowing all the “secrets”) will clash with actions that demand freedom. There may be tension between wanting to step back versus wanting to know more. The result can be angry words and forceful demands.

The Neptune/Mercury trine can help. If you encounter pressure to reveal more than you’re comfortable with, or you’re the one applying the pressure, take a deep breath, exhale and let go. Accept that you can’t force the words or knowledge – some things aren’t meant to be known, and you don’t have to open up if you don’t want to. Neptune encourages release, forgiveness and its own brand of detachment via transcendence. What you need to know will come to you, as will the right words.

The common theme today is the trine – natural flow. There is no need to force anything, because what’s meant to unfold will do so without effort.

October 17th, 2018: Venus/Lilith and Pluto/Ceres

  • Pluto in Capricorn square Ceres in Libra (18 deg)

Venus and Lilith

Another intense day, as Venus perfects the second of three squares with BML in Aquarius.

I wrote the following about the first square on September 16th:

Venus’ square to Lilith brings another crisis. Venus in Scorpio is dark and intense, but Scorpio’s shadows manifest in the familiar guise of female energy – Venus attracts and is about relationships. In Scorpio, she draws people in so she can get as close as possible. Lilith in Aquarius couldn’t care less about relationships. She’s out there on her own, blazing her own path, offending or unnerving most people. If she does attract someone they’re usually drawn to the truly atypical, independent lady who doesn’t want to attract them in the first place.

When these two square each other, you may experience the clash between merging and repulsing, or the desire for complete intimacy versus complete distance. These are two different types of female power – absorption of the partner’s resources (and in some cases, the partner) versus zero need for a partner.”

These issues will be revisited, but now that Venus is Rx there will be a review of why you want to merge, if merging is possible or if there are deeper reasons behind the tension between intimacy versus rebellion. Between staying hidden/secret versus putting it out there. Venus Rx in Scorpio can reveal the secrets/taboos that are driving BML’s anger or rejection.

Pluto and Ceres

Continuing today’s heavy theme, Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) perfects his square with the Great Mother (Ceres). A specific theme from the October 8th New Moon will reach an intense peak:

“Ceres is about the cycle of nurturing and loss – a square to Pluto is the crisis of loss (the threat of loss). So this new beginning will undoubtedly be intense, because it will involve an amplified desire to hang onto someone/something, due to the real or perceived threat of loss. In Libra, we see a distinct imbalance – one person does all the nurturing. This could be due to a partner’s illness (the imbalance cannot be avoided) or obsessive smothering of a desired object. Ceres square Pluto is the devouring Great Mother whose power lies in her ability to feed and starve. At the root of her power is her fear of losing what she loves.

These dynamics can play out in different ways. Because Libra is involved, there’s always projection to consider. Who really has the power? Under these aspects, the person who feels compelled to offer care may have an agenda.”

The issues of loss, control and what must be accepted in a difficult agreement will be emphasized. In the Ceres myth, she made a deal with Pluto that allowed Persephone (her daughter) to spend part of the year above ground with her (after Pluto abducted her). Not the perfect agreement (Ceres had to accept that Persephone was not with her all the time) and it required her acceptance of what she could not control. But she still got some of what she wanted.

Consider how this might apply to your life, and in the context of the New Moon.

The energy that ties these aspects together is Scorpio/Pluto. The raw truth behind the scenes and the confrontation with shadow issues (manipulation, control, fear of death/loss, the unspoken fight for survival). If it feels like there’s more at stake today, consider what you’re not openly acknowledging. And then, consider if what’s happening is really a fight for survival or if you’re operating on outdated programs. There’s probably something today that you can’t fully control and this fact may threaten you.

What’s the worst that could happen if you acknowledged what’s beyond your control?

October 15th, 2018: More Than Just Sweet Words

  • Mercury conjunct Venus Rx in Scorpio (8 deg)

When Mercury unites with Venus in Scorpio, words are sweet and intense. Information is lucrative and research can uncover something deeply beneficial. Getting back in touch, or revisiting the issues, can tap into a pool of love, pleasure and resources.

Ask again and see what happens.

By itself, this energy brings purely positive developments. But there are a couple of extras.

Venus is Rx, which means what you’re discussing/learning may be a revision of what came before. There’s much more to uncover. Relationships, values and finances will offer up what was previously obscured.

Mercury has already squared BML and Venus Rx will do the same on October 17th. While there’s positive potential here, you can’t ignore the tension arising from an awareness of what’s outcast or unacceptable. This is not just about pretty words – what you’re currently discovering (the deeper layer) is being thrown into sharp relief by an outside agitation.

What taboos need to be confronted? What truths are emerging about challenging, rebellious and possibly ugly events? Positive can exist alongside frightening or uncomfortable. Don’t ignore the full scope of this contrast. I still see this as beneficial, but you have to look at the entire picture that’s emerging.

As a reminder, Black Moon Lilith is about the outcast woman, made more powerful because of her outsider status. She refuses to submit, and in Aquarius, she is truly the social rebel. BML represents women’s sexual power and the sides of a woman that many people do not want to accept (the witch, the mistress, the prostitute, the female demon, the sexual woman who is judged for being sexual, the truth-teller).

Astrology of Now: Sharing Secrets

The god of communications, Mercury, and Venus, the planet of peace and love, meet a few times a year to catch up on some gossip and maybe even steal a kiss. These two usually get along well since much of the time they are either in the same sign or sextiling — at least by sign. At this month’s rendezvous, on October 15/16, it looks as if Venus and Mercury may be sharing a secret or two since they are in subtle Scorpio. Mercury is direct, of course, and about to meet with Jupiter at the end of Scorpio; Venus, […]

  • Mercury in Scorpio square Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius (7 deg)

  • Venus Rx in Scorpio sextile Vesta in Capricorn (9 deg)

Mercury/Black Moon Lilith

Mercury/BML suggests Scorpio’s secrets or taboo truths conflict with BML in Aquarius’ radical lady. While Lilith herself is about the taboo (and unpalatable truths), in this case, what’s spoken or understood about her will be discordant. Perhaps too much is revealed about a Lilith issue. Or, perhaps a BML-type person speaks her truth and it comes across as too heavy or too horrific.

Yes, BML’s energy can naturally be “too much” under the best of circumstances, but when she makes a hard aspect to Mercury, her message is extra challenging. Keep this in mind if you’re thinking of communicating things that others don’t want to hear – this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t, only that you should be aware of today’s energies.

Venus/Vesta

Venus Rx in harmony with Vesta might smooth things out a bit, or least remind you of what’s most important.

An area of Venus- themed (money, relationships, self-esteem) investigation or review will be enhanced by Vesta’s strict (Capricorn) focus. You can zero in what really matters while tuning out the white noise of social discord or disapproving chatter. Venus’ energy is elevated and Scorpio’s darkness becomes the sacrament – Vesta (the temple) is about purity of intent, so you can consider what boundaries or rules (Capricorn) should be applied to what matters most. Do you treat yourself and your resources (financial and emotional) like they are sacred? Only a select few are allowed to enter the temple.

Remember that when Scorpio’s energy is used correctly, it too is quite selective. Only those who respect the power and enhance chances of survival/evolution are allowed to get close.
