Lunar Etiquette
This New Moon in Libra (18°) is exactly opposite the planet of explosive opportunity, Uranus. Some of us will be sprinting out of the blocks tomorrow into the next big adventure. Use this energy wisely because we have help from both optimistic Jupiter in Virgo and ruthless Pluto in Capricorn. These two are co-operating beautifully, intent on making some big idea manifest. Earth signs especially benefit from Jupiter and Pluto. Cardinal signs especially benefit from the Uranian intervention. Manners makyth man is the motto of New College — one of the oldest colleges here. What it means is: however high or low your birth, fat […]

Astrology of Now: Equinox, Public Humiliation and Mercury Rx
I’m writing this just as the Sun approaches the celestial equator. It is the equinox, when night and day are perfectly balanced. We enter the sign of Libra today, which this year is already hosting Mercury’s retrograde. Libra is one of the four cardinal signs that open the seasons – Aries (spring), Cancer (summer), Libra (autumn) and Capricorn (winter), or the reverse if you are in the Southern hemisphere. Libra is the sign of balance, of equal measures, of the other, a contrast to the one-pointedness of its opposite Aries. Maybe it’s useful now to think about how the whole Zodiac balances and rebalances […]

Zenobia And The Temple of Bel
The warrior queen Zenobia passed under that Zodiac dozens, maybe hundreds, of times. By the start of her reign in the 3rd century BC, the Temple of Bel in Palmyra was already 200 years old. Its fabulous portico with the seven planets personified, surrounded by the signs of the Zodiac, would have been a familiar part of the sacred furniture of the the queen’s great desert city. Subsequent generations of travellers to the Middle East crossed the desert to visit Zenobia’s city, inspired by the legend of the warrior queen and rumours of the romance of the ruins. Isobel Burton, writing in the 1870s, […]

The Glory and the Dying of the Light: Chiron/Sun
We find it easier to understand when Chiron hits any of the personal planets. The personal planets have to do with our functioning, have to do with our effectiveness, and we understand when Chiron places a chink in our armour. Chiron/Mercury, and our ability to move, articulate and/or take in ordinary information can […]
Refugees: Jupiter-Neptune In Action
Last week, I did a talk at Aquarius Severn which included a short picture essay. I’ll show it to you here. Remember that Neptune and Jupiter, the planets that promote flow, meet across the mutable Virgo-Pisces axis once a century. Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces — 1849 Jupiter in Pisces, Neptune in Virgo — 1939 Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces — 2015

The Labour Party’s Misty Meltdown
Of course it’s one thing to look at Jeremy Corbyn’s chart. He is clearly having a high old time, but we really ought to look at the chart of the Labour Party to get an idea of what’s going on. I asked my friend Liz, who is a fount of natal charts, what she had for the British Labour Party. Here’s what she said: “Nick Campion gives two: 27th Feb 1900 and 12th Feb 1906. Both noon in London. There are arguments for both; the later date is more the foundation of the Parliamentary Labour Party, the former is when […]

Sacred Earth (Part One)
EARTH SIGNS, EARTH HOUSES: THE TRIFECTA OF MANIFESTATION TAURUS: HUSBAND TO GAIA Overview: The Triumvirate of Earth No one really thinks about it, but all of the elemental triumvirates follow the same pattern, no matter the element. There is initiation or inception, process or testing, and then building or result. In Fire, there is the […]
