Full Moon in Cancer: The Family Turning Point

   August Wilhelm Dankworth

August Wilhelm Dankworth

The December 22nd Full Moon takes place at 0 deg Cancer, the day after the Sun’s Capricorn ingress (December 21st) and the start of the Winter Solstice.

This Full Moon essentially marks the shortest day and a major turning point in the year. The Full Moon is an ending or result but 0 degrees is a beginning. This lunation will embody the extra power of this solstice – the point where things are as dark as they can be and the corresponding climb towards longer days.

The Winter Solstice is a time to acknowledge (but not remain stuck in) the past, traditions and structures (Capricorn). Capricorn is the sign of patient ambition – the long, slow climb towards achievement, which we can see reflected in the climb towards longer days. But the Moon itself is in Cancer, so the theme here will be how external definitions of success are reflected in your inner life – how or if your needs are being met. How you look out for your needs. How you climb towards new definitions of security and safety that work for you.

What’s ending and starting now will take work (Capricorn) – yes, it takes work to truly align yourself with what you need (Cancer). It’s not easy to tune into this stuff, past all the layers/programming from the past and society’s rules.

This Moon makes no aspects to any planets so its energy is quite pure and the resulting emotions (Cancer) will be at a peak. Be prepared for major moods and nostalgia. Pay attention to what you feel – if you feel it, it’s valid (don’t let others tell you you’re being too…whatever). The Cancer/Capricorn axis is lit up along with the themes of child/parent, mother/father, neediness/authority. Parental/family themes are very strong, which is appropriate during the holidays. Count on at least one domestic turning point or conclusion.

Note that the transiting North Node (ruled by the Moon) is currently in Cancer and the transiting South Node is in Capricorn. While not conjoining this lunation, the path from past (South Node) to future (North Node) is illuminated by this Full Moon – stepping away from outdated definitions of security and looking at what really matters, in your gut and heart.

Could this approaching New Year be the one where you honour your needs, look after yourself or deal with parent/child issues? What inheritances are you stepping away from?

November 28th, 2018: Pivotal Relationship Issue

  • Venus in Libra inconjunct Chiron Rx in Pisces (27 deg)

  • Venus in Libra square the North Node in Cancer/South Node in Capricorn (28 deg)

Venus in Libra square the Nodes is a pivotal relationship issue. There will be a choice between sticking with old rules/limits/expressions of authority (South Node) or progressing towards something that is more intuitive, nurturing and in line with authentic needs. It may be about getting past the superficial shell of status and tuning into the real emotions.

Venus’ inconjunct to Chiron Rx indicates that this will be a touch painful. You may be tempted to gloss over a reoccurring wound (Venus also made an inconjunct to Chiron on November 3rd) but dealing with this is part of your progress towards the North Node. Chiron will make an exact trine with the North Node on December 2nd, but you can certainly make use of this energy now- move towards a place of emotional authenticity by acknowledging what hurts. In the process, you can forgive, release, heal, sooth. And this may correct an imbalance in your relationships.

November 25th, 2018: Make Time to Nurture

  • Waning Inconjunct between the Cancer Moon and Sagittarius Sun/Jupiter (3 deg)

  • Mars in Pisces trine Ceres in Scorpio (5 deg)

The Waning Inconjunct takes the expansive energy of November 23rd’s Full Moon and reminds you that it’s time to pause and look after yourself or someone close to you. The Jupiter-fuelled situation has a personal side. Or, you need to honour some intimate needs/family/security amidst the rush of bigger issues. A matter involving right/wrong, exploration, faith or wisdom has a distinctly familiar angle.

Mars/Ceres can help with the above as compassionate or spiritual actions support deep nurturing. The more you let go, allow or move with the prevailing current, the greater the intensity of unconditional care and support. This is nurturing that is not afraid to move through loss to the other side.

Heart Connections | Astrology Horoscope

As life continues to change and evolve, we’re put into our own individual position of either hanging on to what we know is stable – or to let go and flow (Pisces in Mars). To try and do both – to control AND and to surrender – would require intense juggling, as we would be challenged to […]

  • Mars in Aquarius square Juno Rx in Taurus (27 deg)

  • Ceres in Libra square the South Node in Capricorn/North Node in Cancer (29 deg)

Today we have two squares that will provide motivating crises. No one likes tension, but that’s how change happens.

Mars/Juno

The Mars/Juno square indicates a confrontation between set relationship agreements versus disruptive or independent actions. One partner may want to keep things the same while the other wants their freedom, or is agitating for change.

This is the second of two squares. The first square occured on July 16th, 2018 when Mars was Rx and Juno was direct (at 6 deg). At that time, actions were being reviewed and revised. Now that Juno is Rx, the terms of the agreement/commitment may be up for revision.

Mars square Juno can indicate relationship conflict, but if a partnership has stagnated, this final square should shake things up.

Ceres

Ceres in the final degree of Libra squares the Nodes, newly entered into Capricorn/Cancer. A one-on-one (or one-sided) exchange of nurturing is at a tipping point. A square to the Nodes means this is a key issue that needs to be resolved before you can move forward. So there may be old rules/responsibilities (Capricorn South Node) that need to be revised (or left behind) before you can arrive at an authentic form of nurturing where needs (for both people) are met (Cancer North Node).

Parental issues are very strong here. Ceres is mother’s nurturing, Capricorn is the father and Cancer is the mother/child. What’s happening with the family dynamics? There’s a definite shift here – the way nurturing/care is being applied is up for a major change. Perhaps the caregiver/patient relationship is being redefined. Or, maybe your responsibilities as a caregiver/mother need attention.

When Libra is involved, you’re going from one end of the scales to the other, and ultimately you want to find that balance point.
