There’s an intense need for balance this week, under the karmic Libra New Moon on Monday October 8. With a craving for fairness and making things right, we’ll feel encouraged to start a new beginning, a start-up project or perhaps create a fresh approach to an unresolved situation. As an inner restlessness occurs, imagination will […]

October 8th, 2018: Just Before The Libra New Moon

Libra Moon trine the Aquarius South Node (3 deg)
Libra Moon square Saturn in Capricorn (3 deg)
Libra Moon square Vesta in Capricorn (6 deg)
Libra Moon trine Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius (7 deg)
Libra Moon trine Mars in Aquarius (9 deg)
Leading up to today’s New Moon in Libra (11:46 PM EDT) the Waning Moon starts with a harmonious contact to the South Node – the past is easily integrated into the present. This is a mild aspect so you probably won’t feel it strongly, but watch for a sense of familiarity as big issues involving liberation, individuation or the group play out in a one-on-one context. Been there, done that.
The squares to Saturn and Vesta are a bit more pronounced, suggesting limits on a relationship or an imbalance due to excessive focus in one area. At this point you may discover that social acceptance or peace are defined (by tradition) to the point where your options are limited. This energy can feel uncomfortable – maybe you’re being judged or cut off.
However, the trines to BML and Mars provide a nice outlet: if the rules aren’t working for you, know that there’s another way. BML and Mars in Aquarius encourage you to follow the alternative path and act from a place of honest motivation. Don’t worry about being liked – the trine suggests there should be natural acceptance and understanding from another.
These trines refer back to any Aquarius South Node issues that are coming forward – past issues of rebellion, freedom or feeling like an outcast can be worked through.
All this occurs during the Dark or Waning Moon. The time just before the New Moon is perfect for wrapping up old issues, saying goodbye or shutting something down. You need to do this in order to approach the New Moon with a clean slate.
What relationship and social dynamics are ending?
October 7th, 2018: Selfless Nurturing or Sacrifice?

Sun in Libra conjunct Ceres, inconjunct Neptune Rx in Pisces (14 deg)
Referring to tomorrow’s New Moon, the Sun/Libra conjunction hi-lights the give and take of nurturing. This will be in a one-on-one context, with the ultimate expression of nurturing as a balanced exchange. Something is blooming here.
However, the inconjunct to Neptune is a reminder that ego is not part of this picture. Yes, sometimes nurturing can be expected or given with strings attached, but in this case the expression should be selfless. At the same time, there can be confusion about who gives what and where to draw the line between care and sacrifice. It may be difficult to achieve that balance, so make sure you and anyone else involved are completely clear on the terms of this exchange.
Libra New Moon: Towing the Gondola
Libra is the planet of relating, but Scorpio is where we grow intimate. If you stay together long enough, things will eventually get real. Occasionally, they’ll even get ugly. And just when you think you’ve solved the equation, you’ll go through something together that changes the whole formula….

October 2nd, 2018: Crisis

Third Quarter Square between the Cancer Moon and Libra Sun (9 deg)
Mercury in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn (18 deg)
Third Quarter Square
The Third Quarter Square can bring up emotional crises that get you thinking about the nature of give and take in your relationships. Insecurity, mother/child issues or situations from the past can trigger imbalances that feel unfair. It may feel uncomfortable to question the nature of certain associations now, but the discomfort is a sign that all is not well.
Ultimately, you want to move to a place of balance and compromise, but that will involve honouring your needs and paying attention to what feels unsafe. Only by acknowledging what feels right for you can you achieve true balance with another. And this also means acknowledging when you have been immature, needy or helpless.
Mercury/Pluto
The square between Mercury and Pluto echoes the crisis of the Third Quarter Square. Thoughts and discussions will be intense and not straightforward. Guaranteed that there’s more going on behind the scenes, so take note of what’s not being said or what’s lurking on the edge of your awareness.
Pluto is the shadow behind Mercury in Libra’s socially acceptable words or thoughts that say “Everything is fine.” Everything is not fine, and ignoring this won’t make it go away. What don’t you want to admit? Pluto is also the uncomfortable truth – the sooner you look at what’s really going on, the sooner you can move forward.
The Mercury/Pluto square also connects to yesterday’s Mars/BML conjunction.
New Moon in Libra Conjunct Ceres

The October 8th Libra New Moon (15 deg) conjoins Ceres and squares Pluto. The Pluto/Ceres myth is energized here – Pluto (King of the Underworld) took Ceres’ daughter and as she mourned the crops withered. They made a deal and he allowed her daughter to spend part of the year with her (during which time the crops grew).
Ceres is about the cycle of nurturing and loss – a square to Pluto is the crisis of loss (the threat of loss). So this new beginning will undoubtedly be intense, because it will involve an amplified desire to hang onto someone/something, due to the real or perceived threat of loss. In Libra, we see a distinct imbalance – one person does all the nurturing. This could be due to a partner’s illness (the imbalance cannot be avoided) or obsessive smothering of a desired object. Ceres square Pluto is the devouring Great Mother whose power lies in her ability to feed and starve. At the root of her power is her fear of losing what she loves.
These dynamics can play out in different ways. Because Libra is involved, there’s always projection to consider. Who really has the power? Under these aspects, the person who feels compelled to offer care may have an agenda.
Apart from relationships, Ceres is associated with food and the square to Pluto could indicate a new diet/approach to sustenance that is (initially) unbalanced. Pluto means transformation, but tension of this aspect means transformation due to forced or excessive change.
Whatever the situation, the start will probably be extreme in some way. Adjustments will need to happen before you can reach that point of equilibrium, and part of the journey will involve accepting that loss of some kind will be involved. It may happen down the road, or it may be the trigger for this new beginning. You can’t circumvent the natural order of things.
This Moon will also make an inconjunct to Neptune Rx in Pisces, so you’ll be dealing with a couple of fantasies or unfounded fears. Too, Neptune reminds you that some of what’s happening is beyond your control – nothing lasts forever. You can dwell on what you’re afraid of losing, or you can enjoy what you have while you have it.
And this is a new beginning, so there’s a suggestion that we are at the part of the cycle where Ceres’ daughter is released (temporarily) from the Underworld. There can be growth and abundance ahead, as long as you remember that it’s part of a cycle.

September 30th, 2018: Fact, Fantasy and Pluto Direct

Mercury in Libra inconjunct Neptune Rx in Pisces (14 deg)
Pluto stations direct in Capricorn (18 deg)
Fact and Fantasy
Mercury/Neptune is the disconnect between fact and fantasy. Mercury in Libra puts this in the context of one-on-one discussions or projected ideas. What you hear may be different from what’s being said, and what you say may be misinterpreted. But, the issue that’s blurring the facts cannot be ignored, because there’s something that’s amplifying sensitivity – alternate messages are leaking in. What’s responsible for the crossed signals? Make room for what you suspect but don’t allow it undermine you.
Pluto Direct
Pluto forges ahead, continuing its agenda of deconstruction and death of the old order. If you have anything around 18 degrees of the Cardinal signs, Pluto is done (or will be within the next month). That transformation is complete. 19 deg will be hit by Pluto from roughly November to December 2018, and then Pluto will also be done with that degree.
The next Pluto Rx will cover 23 to 20 deg Capricorn, so this is the upcoming zone of intensification (from April to October 2019). In the meantime, Pluto direct can initiate a loss, empowerment or total overhaul in your life.
Note that (for the first time) Pluto will hit 22 deg Capricorn around March 2019. This is the degree of the Saturn/Pluto conjunction (Jan 12th, 2020). It will be a massive new beginning involving power and authority (I’ve written a PDF about it if you’re interested). March 2019 may deliver some early hints about what’s to come, especially if you have anything in the Cardinal or Earth signs at this deg.
Into Autumn
And now the Sun enters Libra, the cardinal sign of autumn. Again we are at the beginning of a season. The equinox is behind us (September 23) and in the North the days will get shorter as we stumble towards the dark of winter. Now, this autumn season is the moment when we weigh and measure the fruit from the vines and the orchards. We see what the season of growth brought forth, and we make plans for the coming months. And these last days of sunshine are some of the most beautiful of the year with long shadows and […]

September 27th, 2018: Balance

Moon in Taurus inconjunct Sun in Libra (Waning Inconjunct-4 deg)
Sun in Libra trine Mars and the South Node in Aquarius (4 deg)
Mercury in Libra conjunct Ceres (9 deg)
Saturn in Capricorn conjunct Vesta (2 deg)
Waning Inconjunct
The Waning Inconjunct calls for an adjustment to Monday’s Full Moon in Aries. After that challenging culmination, the inconjunct asks you to ground yourself in the moment. Pause, and remind yourself of what you have right now. There may be an urge to keep compromising or comparing, and while you can’t forget about the balance between you and them, it’s important to stabilize yourself. Take stock of your current resources.
Along with the Waning Inconjunct, the Sun’s trines to Mars and the South Node extend the vibe from yesterday’s Mars/South Node conjunction by energizing that issue (from the past) that’s reached a turning point. The goodbye or moment of liberation will be enabled by your social awareness. This is all about relationship dynamics – what needs to be left behind and what you can build on. Use the inconjunct as a reminder of what’s best for you in this situation.
The Taurus Moon will square Mars and the Nodes, which adds extra emphasis to that issue of personal values, resources or security. It will be challenging to remind yourself of what you have and what’s best for you (there may be resistance from others) but that’s exactly what you must do. Your awareness of what you stand for is essential in achieving an effective balance with others.
Nurturing Words
Mercury/Ceres suggests a truly nurturing conversation where one person listens and the other vents. Or, where there’s an equal exchange of caring words. Excellent for any kind of discussion with a counselling vibe, but remember that Libra is an Air sign. This means objectivity. It’s not about intense revelations and intimate confessions – Mercury in Libra can be receptive to anything as long as the delivery is light and there’s room to step back and process what’s being shared.
Absolute Focus
Saturn/Vesta cranks up the focus on a rule, tradition or limit. Vesta’s devotion to an issue is severely defined by Saturn – there’s a sense of unshakable commitment or unblinking concentration. This can be positive or negative, depending on what the focus is.
