Sagittarius New Moon: Shift Your Holiday Energy

Every year around mid-November, it begins. It creeps upon me so slowly that I don’t even realize it’s happening. Like a frog being boiled alive in water, the temperature increasing ever so slightly. Holiday energy. Buzziness, wanting to jump out of my skin, the feeling that I should be doing something, waking up at night […]

December 6th, 2018: Mercury Direct

  • Mercury stations direct (27 deg Scorpio at 4:21 PM EST)

Mercury concludes its retrograde this afternoon, moving ahead and signalling progress in all matters of communication and information. Rx since November 16th, Mercury direct will reactivate 27 to 29 deg Scorpio and 0 to 13 deg Sagittarius. This reactivation (also known as the shadow period) will take you to December 24th, so you may still be discussing the same issues or looking (again) at the same truths/lies.

But Mercury is direct now, and that counts for something. There should be clarification. You can be confident that the repeat issue you’ve been chewing on is winding down.

Mercury direct in Scorpio will ask you to move forward with what you’ve dug up (secrets, taboos, the things no one else wanted to confront) and Mercury direct in Sag will ask you to take it further- expand on it, look at the bigger possibilities, apply what you’ve learned to the promise or story. Does the ideal still hold up now that you’ve done your research or glimpsed the underside?

Mercury direct may start off quietly, because it’s still in dark, private Scorpio (Scorpio’s power comes from holding back until the right moment). There may be whispers or unspoken confirmations – a pause before the strategic reveal. Once Mercury makes a jarring inconjunct to Uranus Rx in Aries on December 11th and re-enters Sagittarius on December 12th, things could get louder.

December 5th, 2018: Tensions to Consider

  • Sagittarius Sun square Neptune in Pisces (13 deg)

  • Venus in Scorpio square Vesta in Aquarius (2 deg)

Sun/Neptune is a harbinger of the December 7th New Moon. A square is a crisis aspect, and here we have a crisis between future opportunities/truth (Sun in Sag) versus the dream/lie/wish (Neptune). The overall energy is that of expansion, as Neptune dissolves limits and Sag wants to keep exploring, but the direction will be the issue.

What are you moving towards? How do expectations and truth align? There is a strong escapist vibe here, so make sure that you’re putting your faith in something that’s about elevation rather than avoidance.

Venus/Vesta triggers tension between a deep want/craving (involving relationships, money or values) versus a detached focus on the bigger picture. There’s something different to consider, and the contrast with an area of obsession (or a fixed desire) can make you aware of what needs to change and what needs to remain private or protected.

Sagittarius New Moon: Walkabout

few years ago, just before a Sagittarius New Moon, our indoor cat Spike escaped the secure confines of our home and went walkabout. I soothed my anxiety by imagining him on a kind of exciting Spirit Quest, possibly involving medicinal-grade catnip. When he returned 36 hours later, Spike seemed calm and fairly mellow, if ravenously […]

New Moon in Sagittarius: Wandering Moon

The December 6th/7th New Moon (15 deg Sagittarius at 11:20 PM PST/ 2:20 AM EST) squares a Mars/Neptune conjunction in Pisces (exact on the same day). A square from Mars to Sag suggests big, enthusiastic actions. New beginnings will be driven by a desire to GO. There may be impatience and excitement.

But Mars conjoins Neptune which means actions will be transcendent, vague, confused, compassionate or intensely creative. Take your pick. Neptune is always a tricky mix with Mars, because primary motivations (the initial push) can drift off into strange, unexpected territory. Expectations for this beginning may be very high but unrealistic. Dreams may be exaggerated.

A conjunction also means a new beginning, so Mars/Neptune can be about the new dream, the leap of faith or the pursuit or something higher (your ultimate goal). And it will be fired up by the Sagittarius New Moon. Best advice is to step up but do so with caution. Remember that New Moons are rarely carved in stone, especially when Neptune is involved. The potential is massive, but the square between Pisces and Sag is about the tension between religion (Sagittarius) and spirituality (Pisces). Faith (Sag) and belief (Pisces). The journey (Sag) versus the dream (Pisces).

This could be a wandering Moon, where you allow fate to guide you. And it will be difficult to control the outcome or force certain results. So your best approach may be openness to whatever comes your way combined with a continuous awareness of your highest motivation (what’s best for you and others). A square to Mars/Neptune means actions can undermine just as easily as they can elevate. Neptune can weaken or transcend- it all depends on your focus.

Note that Mercury stations direct in Scorpio on December 6th and Chiron stations direct on December 9th, adding forward movement to the Grand Water Trine consisting of Mercury, Chiron and the Cancer North Node. So this Moon will be enabled by a background flow of understanding, healing and progress towards the future. The trick will be navigating any undermining influences.

November 27th, 2018: Hopeful Progress

  • Waning Trine between the Leo Moon and Sagittarius Sun (5 deg)

  • Sun conjunct Mercury Rx in Sagittarius (5 deg)

  • Mercury Rx conjunct Jupiter (4 deg)

  • Vesta conjunct the Capricorn South Node (28 deg)

Waning Trine

The Waning Trine allows you to share your talents or a creation that you’re proud of. Something special can be displayed or communicated, and others will be receptive. The energy is hopeful, forward-looking and vibrant.

This will involve the Sun/Mercury Rx conjunction (with Jupiter) which marks the midpoint of the Mercury’s retrograde (since Nov 16th) – here is a point of clarity that involves a reward or greater wisdom. Mercury Rx’s delays and reviews can deliver some benefits or open your eyes to something better. And this is what you’ll be sharing with others, or they will be sharing with you.

If you’ve been waiting for an answer or hint about what you’re supposed to do next, this could be it. Keep in mind that Mercury is still Rx, so the process is not complete. But this should mark a positive turning point.

Vesta

Vesta/South Node hi-lights a point of exclusive focus (or obsession). This could be something from the past, or an issue that’s ready to be developed further. It may involve rules, limits, traditions or authority. Now is the moment to finish it and move on – you can either stop focusing on it or see the results of what you’ve been devoting your energy to.
