Coronavirus, China and the World Health Organisation

Sometime in late 2019, people began to fall ill in a city in eastern China. The disease was a type of virus, a mutation it seemed of the coronavirus, so a relative of the common cold. While it started to spread, Hygeia, the goddess of hygiene, was having a zizz. In early October, Hygeia the […]

April through October 2019: the Sun-Uranus Cycle

An Historic Breakthrough on Climate Change

On Saturday, at 19.26 in Paris, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius brought down his gavel. Delegates from 196 countries, crammed into a debating chamber, erupted into applause. A global agreement had been reached on tackling climate change. The UN’s climate change agreement is not perfect, but it is a huge breakthrough. Getting 196 countries to agree on anything is almost impossible — as was shown at previous climate summits which ended in disarray. This summit was run with French organisation and diplomatic chutzpah. And it’s clear that predictions made 40 years ago that the ice caps would melt and that weather would become unstable and extreme […]

Oh Hygeia

The goddess of nursing clearly decided she needed a personal word with me after that last post: I broke my wrist ice skating yesterday and spent the rest of the day at A&E! Hygeia turned up in the shape of a sweet bearded doctor. More later, I am off for round two.

Hygeia, The Asteroid of Health

The image of Hygeia is a constant in modern times. Although we do not always recognise her for the goddess that she is, perhaps there are more images of her in the media than any other Greek goddess except Aphrodite. In the Greek pantheon, she is one of the daughters of Aesculapius, the doctor. One sister is Panacea “cure-all”, another is Iaso (recuperation) and she is, of course, the goddess of hygiene — which frankly sounds rather dreary. However, the Greeks didn’t think so. They probably did not mean OCD style disinfection, after all no one really knew about germs […]

Five Things To Do in 2015

Happy New Year! I hope the holiday season was a pleasant one for you. As of today we are into the swing of the new year: already the bulbs at the end of the dining table — paper whites and hyacinths — have bloomed and their sharp green leaves are an augury of spring; my youngest went to school this morning with her apple polished and (most of) her homework done; and D (Jupiter in Pisces) has bought himself two pairs of shoes in the sales. So it really is time to think of the year ahead, and leave behind what we can’t fix […]

Asteroid Hygeia

Asteroid Hygeia is the fourth largest of the asteroids and takes 5.5 years to orbit the Sun. It was named after the Greek goddess of health, daughter of Asclepius (god of medicine). So as the personification of health, cleanliness, and sanitation, we might consider that asteroid 10 Hygeia relates to these things in astrology. Other astrologers have said as much which I will mention later. I’ll also look at some transits involving Hygiea for an operation I had recently which I must say do confirm the belief that she does have an astrological association with health. First though, I’ll show the discovery chart and see if there is anything there which might be associated with the meaning of the name, “Hygeia“. Asteroid Hygeia Discovery Chart Asteroid 10 Hygeia was discovered by Annibale de Gasparis on April 12, 1849, in Naples, Italy. I could not find an exact time in this link so have set the chart for 10 pm. Mars conjunct Neptune is interesting and must be important in this chart because it is on the degree of the previous Solar Eclipse. Neptune does rule illness and Mars pain, and they make a quincunx aspect to asteroid Hygiea. The quincunx […]
