Astrology of Now: My Eye

I thought I’d share some down-home astrology with you today. The Sun is squaring that gassy giant Neptune for a couple of days (November 30-December 1) — and I find myself semi-housebound with an eye infection. Neptune is pretty much on my natal Sun right now, which is also my chart ruler. The significance of the eye is that the Sun is one of the two “Lights” (the other being the Moon), traditionally associated with the left and right eyes. The Sun is, of course, the dexter eye, and this is where my stye is. Neptune is associated with poison and […]

Astrology Maven Alice O Howell

A well-read client reminded me this week of the work of Alice Howell, the grandmama of psychological astrology, Jungian scholar, poet, traveller and wise woman.  She passed on in 2014 but left a large body of work, including her blog Credo, which is still up on the internet and full of pearls of wisdom. Howell lived a long and eventful life and by the time she started writing her blog she had a wealth of experience to draw on. Here’s an example especially for those of you experiencing a Neptune transit or working in a therapeutic role. “…When I was 21, […]

The Three Biggest Opportunities in 2016 For Each Sign

My chum UK astrologer Sally Kirkman has written a forecast book for the whole of 2016 — it’s 150 pages of info.  Sally is a Scorpio so she’s good at cutting to the point. Here’s an extract. The 3 Biggest Opportunities Coming Your Way In 2016 Aries Living out your ideology, following your faith and being true to your philosophy and beliefs is a life-changer in 2016. New healthy habits awaken the mantra that your body’s a temple and boosts brain power. Love is in the ascendancy from September when Jupiter promises wedding bells, a proposal and more. 2016 Astrodiaries: Xmas Gift

Here is a must-have Christmas present for the astro-enthusiastic young women in your life: The Essential Life Guide 2016. Along with a host of quality astrologers — Jo Tracey, Sally Kirkman, Kelly Surtees, Sam Reynolds, Joanne Madeline Moore, Gary P Caton and more — I contributed text to these Aussie astro diaries this year. They are the brain child of Yasmin Boland over at Moonology, whose efforts at creating the diaries have been gargantuan. It’s a complex task. There’s a book for each sign with a horoscope for every day of the year, an astrological summary of each month and  of the year ahead. The idea […]

Can Astrologers Have Any Impact On Public Discourse?

Last week, I had lunch with an astrologer friend and we talked about how attitudes to astrologers have changed in the past couple of decades. She commented that if you said you were an astrologer 20 or 30 years ago, you might be greeted with scepticism, but you never ran into outright hostility. These days you do run the risk of getting attacked by a cheerleader for scientism – or a Christian or Muslim convinced that astrology is the devil’s work. You’d think that getting the boot in was only important if astrology really represented a threat to the prevailing belief systems, yet the public status of astrology — […]

An astrological assessment of the horoscope of that nice Mr. Trump – video

Here is a revealing assessment of the planetary energies of 2016 candidate Donald Trump provided by astrologer Steve Judd from across the pond and it sounds as if Steve ‘has Donald’s number’ as they say, including how the Trump campaign will proceed!

Wonder if Mr. Trump realizes that his inartful critique of Carly Fiorina’s ‘face’ not being suitable to be seen in the White House as president

Temples Of The Sky

I have been reading Deborah Houlding’s book The Houses, Temples of the Sky. It’s an excellent reference and should be on every astrologer’s bookshelf. Although Houlding is a traditional astrologer and her focus is on the horary and mundane, her research and ideas are relevant to her modern, more psychologically inclined colleagues. She has gone back to pre-18th century source material — specifically Manilius, Firmicus, Al Biruni and Lilly but many others also — and tried to decipher what these astrologers had in mind for the meaning of houses. Of course, these writers were all trying to make astrology fit […]

Books: Karmic Mates & Venus Signs

You could say that the promise of romance keeps astrologers in work. Getting your love right — and that might mean lifelong celibacy, a series of mad flings or a nice, cosy 40-year marriage — is one of the cornerstones of living the “good” life. And creating that good life is the reason we study astrology. I was reminded of this when reading Jessica Shepherd’s books Karmic Mates and Venus Signs, both of which are essential reading for the love-struck, the love-ravaged or the lovelorn. If you have a strong Venus in your chart, you really do need to let her strut […]
