Astrology of Now: Pour Some Sugar

The mistress of love and harmony, Venus herself, is usually pictured reclining, either ready for love or just finished.  The power of the goddess subsumed into the erotic fantasies of generations of artists and patrons. The goddess of love diminished into an object of desire. Her astrological meaning is, of course, much more complex, powerful and multifarious. But it’s hard to blot out the popular image of her as a fleshy toy in the periphery of our vision, and of course, sex is part of her story, maybe especially when she’s in the sign of Virgo, the virgin. We need […]

Redesign to Reinvent, Leo Sun Mercury, Venus Uranus Retrograde

Sun and Mercury enter Leo. We could experience a bit of an ego boost in areas where we’ve managed to remain considerate, understanding or possibly cautious. Sun (ego, identity) will exit domestic Cancer on Wednesday July 22, to enter into the passionate realm of Leo. On Thursday July 23, Mercury (thoughts, communications) will exit Cancer, […]

Temples Of The Sky

I have been reading Deborah Houlding’s book The Houses, Temples of the Sky. It’s an excellent reference and should be on every astrologer’s bookshelf. Although Houlding is a traditional astrologer and her focus is on the horary and mundane, her research and ideas are relevant to her modern, more psychologically inclined colleagues. She has gone back to pre-18th century source material — specifically Manilius, Firmicus, Al Biruni and Lilly but many others also — and tried to decipher what these astrologers had in mind for the meaning of houses. Of course, these writers were all trying to make astrology fit […]

That Cha-Cha Feeling… Cancer New Moon, Venus enters Virgo

Cancer New Moon. We’re gently being guided back toward our inner selves this week; so that we may listen to the call of the cravings in our heart. From a need for privacy, to the possibility of fatigue – quality time to self-care will demanded of us. And in doing so, we’ll experience some memorable flashbacks, with intuitive […]

Astrology of Now: Big Love

The spectacular meeting tomorrow morning at 7am British Summer Time between Venus the goddess of love and Jupiter, the king of the gods is not just any old conjunction. These two will be so close, according to NASA, that they may look like one superstar. It only happens once every 2000 years or so. For those of you who read the Out of Bounds piece here, they are at the same declination as well as conjunct by degree. Astrologically, this is the two great “benefics” of the Zodiac joining together to commit good in regal, generous Leo style. It’s an […]

Out Of Bounds

My colleague Jessica Shephard wrote a short piece about Venus Out Of Bounds a few weeks ago which set me thinking. Out of bounds planets are not something that’s not much discussed by astrologers. We’re all too busy getting our minds around cute new asteroids, imaginary dark points and multiple techniques for progressing a chart, not to mention what house system to use. (I plead guilty, m’lud) However, the idea of “out of bounds” is so simple, so obviously important — and so easy to look up — that I am amazed we don’t check this as a matter of […]

Freeing the Fire and Passion of the Gypsy Soul, Sagittarius Full Moon

Sagittarius Full Moon. Something is stirring from our most deepest needs as Luna continues to expand for the Full Moon on Tuesday June 2. Cravings are crying out for quality attention. Inner securities are becoming less comfortable as heart-felt yearnings begin to thrive for the great wide open – where truth, freedom and our real purpose in life […]
