When Words And Hearts Collide

Life shifts again, and some may have already experienced the persistent vibrations from the stubborn, but resourceful Taurus Full Moon along the finicky Venus/Uranus opposition on Saturday, November 4. Then time shifted again, as Daylight Saving Time ended – forcing clocks to be turned back one hour. So as we adjust to these recent changes, […]

Mercury’s Transit of Sagittarius and Mercury Rx

Francesco Brunery

Francesco Brunery

Mercury enters its opposite sign (Sagittarius) on November 5th. Details will be stretched across a wide canvas, and logic will be infused with belief and hope.

Mercury in Sag is the storyteller, preacher and salesperson. Words flow out in a excited rush, delivered with the zeal of higher knowledge. Everything sounds bigger and more convincing. Facts are less important than the overall sense of what’s being conveyed. This is excellent if you’re looking for fresh input, new contacts or inspiration. If you’ve been feeling locked in by depressing/restrictive information, this transit can be your open window.

What’s possible? Almost anything you can think of!

And there’s the rub. Because facts will be distorted. Important details will be overlooked, as Sagittarius is only concerned with the big picture (let’s worry about the little things later). Truth will become an issue. Do numbers and letters add up to the truth? You can’t overlook the cold, hard facts. But what about intuition and perspective?

Mercury Retrograde

What’s true and what’s exaggerated will take on added meaning when Mercury stations Rx at the very last degree of Sagittarius, on December 3rd. You’ll go all the way to the end, then it will be time to take a closer look at the narrative. Mercury Rx will review and ask the specific questions, picking apart (or proving) what you’ve placed your faith in. By the time Mercury stations direct, you should have a clear idea about what you can believe. And, you’ll be alerted to any important details that were glossed over in the rush to spin that story.

Note that Mercury will conjoin Saturn just before it stations Rx, soon after it stations Rx, and a couple of days after it enters Capricorn, at 2 degrees (not shown on the list below). Saturn will be all over this one, bringing the reality smackdown. This means you can explore the grand concepts and listen to the big promises, but you won’t be able to escape some undeniable truths. When in doubt, use Saturn as your guide – you may find that your intuition is aligned with Saturn, if you’re on the right track. Meaning, your sense of the rules and limits (how far you can go) will be bang on.

Here are the aspects Mercury in Sagittarius will make:

November 2nd, 2017: Painful Limits

  • Saturn in Sagittarius square Chiron Rx in Pisces: 24 deg
  • Mercury in Scorpio trine Chiron Rx in Pisces: 24 deg
  • Mercury in Scorpio inconjunct Uranus Rx in Aries: 25 deg

Saturn in Sag makes the last of three squares to Chiron. Since December 28th, 2016 and April 30th, 2017, Saturn has urged you to confront the wound with maturity. Limits are triggering vulnerabilities, but Saturn always demands that you do the work. And Chiron is about acknowledging what hurts.

This is not an aspect of magical healing. Chiron’s “Wounded Healer” moniker does not indicate that the wound vanishes, only that you learn to live with it. And in this case, part of your task may involve accepting limits. This is what you must work with, no matter how unpleasant.

Mercury/Chiron can help with deeply honest explorations of the problem. Digging into the issue and learning everything you can. Conversation is encouraged, but pick your audience carefully. This is not surface small talk; it’s an unedited reveal of what you’re afraid or ashamed of. Only a certain type of person can listen to this and truly offer unconditional compassion. And this aspect suggests there is someone ready to hear your confession. Or maybe you’re the one who’ll be listening.

Mercury’s inconjunct to Uranus indicates the words/discoveries will be a bit of a shock. This won’t be enough to undermine the positive potential of the Mercury/Chiron trine, but be prepared for a jolt when you reveal/learn the truth.

October 18th, 2017: Battle For The Truth, Featuring Lilith

  • Mercury in Scorpio conjunct Jupiter: 1 degree
  • Mars in Virgo square Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius: 27 degrees

Mercury/Jupiter opens the Scorpio can of worms. Secrets and frighteningly intimate facts expand to the point where they cannot be ignored. But Jupiter is also about intuition and faith. So the upside is a rare opportunity to unite logic with intuition, and power ahead based on the confidence that you’ve got it right. And you probably do have it right, if you’re giving voice to your intuition. This energy can also help you mine hidden strategies and resources – you may have more than you think.

Mars’ male energy challenges Lilith’s mouthy outsider in a battle of sexual power. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, and Virgo is ruled by Mercury, so this square is directly tied into the Mercury/Jupiter conjunction. Disruptive female energy is given a voice and Jupiter in Scorpio suggests more stories will rise from the depths. As I wrote in this post, Lilith in Sag has a crusade.

In general terms, the square between Virgo and Sag represents the tension between details and the big story. Also, the truth (Sagittarius) about what’s wrong (Virgo). Facts will be disputed, and the battle may be about details that seem insignificant. If you’re caught up in a battle, know that little inaccuracies and picky details are not inconsequential. Honour your facts. And don’t allow yourself to be intimidated (Mars) by someone who uses guilt and shame (Virgo) as a weapon (Mars).

The above works both ways. If you want to speak, speak your truth. If you don’t want to speak, that’s your right as well.

Mercury’s Transit of Scorpio: Unspeakable

Mercury enters Scorpio on October 17th. Communication becomes raw, uncomfortable and honest.

Scorpio’s honesty is based on taboos, secrets and hidden strategies. Mercury in Scorpio is the detective, researcher and quiet observer. Nothing is said impulsively. There is a protracted period of internal analysis, and then all the layers are peeled back. What comes out can be intimate or ugly, but it will be true.

Sometimes this can be a quiet transit, because Scorpio is intensely private. But with Mercury’s conjunction to Jupiter on October 18th, silence is doubtful. Mercury/Jupiter is the big mouth – the call for truth, the persuasive sale pitch or the exaggerated pronouncement. We must always be aware that Jupiter’s enthusiasm can push things too far. Do you want to know…everything? Are you prepared for the reaction when you drop that verbal depth-charge?

If you’re smart about this transit, you can learn quite a bit and it will benefit you. Decide if you really want to know. If the answer is “yes” use what you learn with caution. Don’t treat it lightly, don’t take it for granted and don’t ignore it, if it turns out to be heavier than anticipated.

Here are the aspects Mercury in Scorpio will make:

  • Oct 18th: conjunct Jupiter (1 deg)
  • Oct 22nd: opposite Pallas Rx (7 deg Taurus)
  • Oct 22nd: square Ceres (9 deg Leo)
  • Oct 24th: trine Neptune Rx (11 deg Pisces)
  • Oct 24th: sextile Juno (11 deg Capricorn)
  • Oct 27th: sextile Pluto (17 deg Capricorn)
  • Oct 30th: square the Nodes (21 deg Leo/Aquarius)
  • Nov 2nd: trine Chiron Rx (24 deg Pisces)
  • Nov 2nd: inconjunct Uranus Rx (25 deg Aries)
  • Nov 5th: Sagittarius ingress
