September 5th, 2018: Waning Sextile and a Sticky Inconjunct

  • Waning Sextile between the Cancer Moon and Virgo Sun (12 deg)
  • Mercury in Leo inconjunct Mars in Capricorn (29 deg)

The Waning Sextile promises an opportunity. It will be quiet – a chance to upgrade and refine raw needs via facts. A chance to transition towards a new goal that’s good for you. And, you won’t have to step outside your comfort zone to do this. The transition will be small but effective.

But you’ll have to pay attention if you want to work with this. It will be so quiet that you might miss it and just stick with the old.

Adding a bit of tension, we have an inconjunct between Mercury and Mars in the last degrees of their respective signs. Big words are out of synch with disciplined actions. Actions are undermined by big words. It will be difficult to align thoughts with intent, but the activation of final degrees (and Mercury’s Virgo ingress later today) suggests this will be a brief but pointed issue. Something is being wrapped up (perhaps a project that was delayed during Mars’ retrograde). The final step could be sticky as you struggle to adjust words with motivation.

The secret to an inconjunct? Moderate both sides but keep them active. So you want to maintain that discipline and ambition, but ease off on the hammer. You want to maintain the creativity and confidence of what you’re saying, but tone down the grandiose energy.

Mercury’s Transit of Virgo

  Albrecht Dürer

Albrecht Dürer

Mercury enters Virgo on September 5th. Mercury rules this sign, so details, examinations and thinking/talking about solutions will dominate.

Here is the ultimate analyzer – Mercury in Virgo misses nothing. Helpful critiques (whether people want to hear them or not) are a theme, along with the identification of errors and solutions. Virgo is an Earth sign, so all information is practical and immediately applicable, but details are also refined. Mercury in Virgo is always searching for the best, the most effective, the cleanest.

This can be a dry, somewhat negative transit for Mercury because the downside of things is noticed first. Mercury in Virgo can search for the worst before looking for the best. Ideally, solutions come next, but the distorted version of this energy is constant criticisms and worrying. Picking at what’s wrong until it bleeds. And then worrying about the bleeding.

This is the transit to find the best solutions. Search and identify, then figure out how you can make it better – don’t get stuck in the gerbil wheel of endless mini crises.

Here are the aspects Mercury in Virgo will make:

  • Sept 6th: inconjunct to Chiron Rx in Aries (0 deg)
  • Sept 6th: conjunct Pallas (1 deg)
  • Sept 7th: trine Uranus Rx in Taurus and Saturn in Capricorn (2 deg)
  • Sept 7th: inconjunct Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius (3 deg)
  • Sept 13th: opposite Neptune rx in Pisces (14 deg)
  • Sept 15th: trine Pluto Rx in Capricorn (18 deg)
  • Sept 16th: sextile Jupiter in Scorpio (19 deg)
  • Sept 20th: conjunct the Sun (28 deg)
  • Sept 21st: trine Juno in Taurus (28 deg)
  • Sept 21st: Libra ingress

  • Mercury in Leo sextile Venus in Libra (25 deg)
  • Mercury in Leo trine Vesta in Sagittarius (26 deg)
  • Mars in Capricorn trine Ceres in Virgo (28 deg)

Mercury/Venus is communication with a hint of romance or creativity. Shiny words are sweetened with the perfect touch of charm – great for sparkling conversation. The trine to Vesta suggests that a story, ideal or higher form of knowledge that you’ve been focusing on can be shared with others in the best possible way. Excellent if you’re trying to convince someone of something, or impress them with your wisdom. Also good for sharing a philosophy that you’re devoted to or telling a story. Note that this energy is focused but not intense – the vibe is bright and confident.

These are repeat aspects:

  • Jun 21st: Mercury in Leo trine Vesta Rx in Sagittarius (22 deg)
  • Jul 31st: Mercury Rx in Leo trine Vesta Rx in Sagittarius (22 deg)
  • Aug 18th: Mercury Rx in Leo sextile Venus in Libra (11 deg)

Mars/Ceres is motivated nurturing. Nurturing that means business. Focused actions drive the care and feeding of little things (no detail is missed). This is nurturing that’s aimed at getting something just right, or looking after someone for their own good. Not particularly cuddly but  extremely effective.

So today is a good mix of bright, beautiful words and down-to-earth actions (Ceres is in Mercury-ruled Virgo). Big talk is easily followed by real efforts. This brings to mind a stern but caring nurse who distracts her patient with lovely stories while she dispenses medicine.

  • Mercury in Leo inconjunct Pluto Rx in Capricorn (18 deg)

Words have more power than you may realize. A subconscious push for domination, along with Leo’s drive for attention, can result in bold statements that end up triggering others. There may also be an undefined fear that your words will be ignored, but all you’re aware of is what’s being said on the surface, which you may interpret as bright, courageous and creative.

This is the disconnect between conscious expression versus subconscious impulses.

Pause before you speak and tune into your deeper motivations. If you’re on the receiving end of a difficult statement, pay attention to what’s not being said and consider the gap between power and how that power is communicated.

Overall, this is not the day to expect smooth communication, although much of the tension will be behind the shine.

This is a repeat aspect (not a new issue):

  • July 16th: Mercury direct inconjunct Pluto Rx (19 deg Capricorn)
  • August 5th: Mercury Rx inconjunct Pluto Rx (19 deg Capricorn)
