An Historic Breakthrough on Climate Change

On Saturday, at 19.26 in Paris, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius brought down his gavel. Delegates from 196 countries, crammed into a debating chamber, erupted into applause. A global agreement had been reached on tackling climate change. The UN’s climate change agreement is not perfect, but it is a huge breakthrough. Getting 196 countries to agree on anything is almost impossible — as was shown at previous climate summits which ended in disarray. This summit was run with French organisation and diplomatic chutzpah. And it’s clear that predictions made 40 years ago that the ice caps would melt and that weather would become unstable and extreme […]

National Geographic: Swallowed By A Great White Shark

My grandparents had stacks of yellow-edged National Geographics in the basement of their house, some dating from the days before photographs were on the front cover. On rainy days in summer or awkward Christmas holidays, I escaped down there, opened those shiny covers and travelled the world. I guess it was like that for a lot of people. The magazine was like an old friend, something we took for granted. It would always be yellow, the pictures would always be great, and the world it told us about would always be awesome. Until last month the magazine was not for profit, which explains perhaps […]

Ankara Massacre

If you didn’t believe in the power of astrological symbols before, you should now. The chart I use for the Republic of Turkey is set for the declaration of the Turkish Republic in 1923, absurdly recent for a country with such a long history, but as you can see from the transits to the chart below, accurate. On Saturday, two bombs ripped apart a peace demonstration in Ankara, the Turkish capital, killing more than 90 people and hospitalising dozens. This was the biggest terrorist attack in modern Turkish history. You can read more about it here. Who is responsible? Some say […]

Astrology of Now: Overwhelming

Jupiter in Virgo opposition Neptune in Pisces — September 17 Readers of the horoscope will know that the coming opposition between Jupiter and Neptune is the most important aspect this month, influencing this entire period into the next season and possibly the whole year.  For some people it will be the most important aspect of a lifetime. For the refugees walking out of danger, the meaning of this aspect is clear, but every single one of us feels this one. Neptune in Pisces is super-powered. Jupiter, opposing him, both magnifies the power and distributes it. This aspect is about huge […]

Refugees: Jupiter-Neptune In Action

Last week, I did a talk at Aquarius Severn which included a short picture essay. I’ll show it to you here. Remember that Neptune and Jupiter, the planets that promote flow, meet across the mutable Virgo-Pisces axis once a century. Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces — 1849 Jupiter in Pisces, Neptune in Virgo — 1939       Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces — 2015

The Labour Party’s Misty Meltdown

Of course it’s one thing to look at Jeremy Corbyn’s chart. He is clearly having a high old time, but we really ought to look at the chart of the Labour Party to get an idea of what’s going on. I asked my friend Liz, who is a fount of natal charts, what she had for the British Labour Party. Here’s what she said: “Nick Campion gives two: 27th Feb 1900 and 12th Feb 1906. Both noon in London. There are arguments for both; the later date is more the foundation of the Parliamentary Labour Party, the former is when […]

Obama In Africa

Just a quick note here, but sometimes you just couldn’t make the astrology up: it’s so simple. US President Barack Obama is visiting Kenya the birthplace of his father for the first time in his presidency. The astrology? Saturn, the planet associated with the father (along with the Sun) is on the president’s Midheaven at 28° Scorpio. Obama is honouring his dead father. He is also stepping into his father’s shoes in some sense. This visit is not just some courtesy call, but an acceptance of his African legacy and of a deep responsibility. This Saturn is at the highest […]

Boxing The Euro

Keen readers of this blog will know I’ve been tracking the euro for years, as Uranus, Pluto and Saturn pummelled the currency from various angles. It’s been like watching a boxing match with all the razzmatazz, wordplay, and brutality, as well as cigar-wielding managers and backers sitting in the front row, waiting to see who hits the ropes first. One of the boxers has been the euro, a shiny fresh-faced currency; his opponent has been a shadowy, shapeshifter, a character brought to life by the energies of the outer planets, donning different masks over the last four years: Anonymous, Varoufakis, […]
