Mars/Saturn

Mars/Saturn is blocked actions. There is nothing easy about this one – you’ll want to push forward immediately (Aries) but a rule, limit or authority (Saturn) will challenge you. You may experience this as coming to a full stop, or being pressured to work harder when your energy is limited. But the square also means there’s a corner to turn – it’s an active aspect so you’re not meant to sit there and do nothing.

However, you can’t charge ahead or openly express your anger/passion. You’ll have to show restraint, obey a higher law and dig in to do the work that’s demanded. Saturn always means there’s more work, so consider what your duty is. Where do you have to focus? When Mars in Aries is controlled, the output can be incredibly effective. Strength increases as you encounter resistance – you build fortitude and muscle. But you’ll have to slow down and be patient.

True courage (Aries) will consist of moving forward (with control) in the face of obstacles.

Chiron/Ceres

Chiron trine Ceres brings a smooth, deep flow of assistance. Ceres in Scorpio is profound nurturing – nurturing through pain, loss and the darkest moments under the shadow of death (the knowledge that nothing remains forever). Trine Chiron, we have the unconditional acceptance that nurturing often accompanies pain. It can hurt to care for someone. Or, caring for yourself requires total acceptance (and forgiveness of) your wounds.

The blend of pain, healing and nurturing flows together seamlessly, so this awareness might help you deal with the obstructions of Mars/Saturn, which can feel like punishment. Whether you’re encountering physical limits, excess work or a struggle with authority, know that there’s healing available if you open yourself up to it.

January 8th, 2019: Mercury in Capricorn Square Mars

  • Mercury in Capricorn square Mars in Aries (4 deg)

Mercury in Capricorn’s verbal/written rules are challenged by Mars’ actions or anger. This is a crisis aspect – edgy conversations or tense discussions may not explode into fully-blown arguments because Capricorn keeps things under control. But the tension will be there.

If your authority is challenged, know that the more you clamp down the more aggressive the push will be. If you’re the challenger, your impulses may be blocked by an authoritative “ No.”

The square always draws our attention to what must be changed, so either the rules are outdated or the upstart challenge needs to be smacked down and boundaries reinforced.

Either way, don’t expect smooth discussions and be prepared to defend or reinforce.

In some cases, actions will be out of alignment with words – what does this mean for you? Do you need to emphasize your point or reconsider your battle?

Mars in Aries

Is it just me or is it getting hot in here? Mars rules Aries, so is at his strongest, most physical, most vital, most impulsive, most headstrong, most independent and most selfish here. Mars is a hot and masculine planet and Aries a hot, cardinal, and masculine sign, making this arguably the most masculine and …

Mars enters Aries on December 31st, giving us all a fresh surge of courage and passion as we face down the New Year.

Mars rules Aries, so the planet of action, anger, sex and initiative is at full strength. Excellent for jump-starting a new project, regime or lifestyle. Or, for making the first move. Where Aries sits in your chart is where Mars will be heating things up. However, Mars in Aries is impatient and impulsive, so staying power is not always great.

Yes, Mars will be making difficult squares to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn (dates and degrees below) but I see these as challenges to be met and corners to be turned. If any planetary energy is ready to power you through a challenge, it’s Mars in Aries. You may experience these squares as frustrations, blocks or confrontations with others (I’ll go into more detail in the daily posts) and you will have to slow down. But Saturn and Pluto can be the grit that gives you traction and tests your courage. And, Saturn especially will be the test that proves if what you’ve started will continue. Will you commit (Saturn) to this course of action (Mars)?

Here are the aspects Mars in Aries will make:

  • Jan 8th: square Mercury in Capricorn (4 deg)

  • Jan 18th: trine Venus in Sagittarius (11 deg)

  • Jan 21st: square Saturn in Capricorn (13 deg)

  • Jan 25th: trine Jupiter in Sagittarius (16 deg)

  • Jan 29th: sextile Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius (16 deg)

  • Feb 1st: square Pluto in Capricorn (21 deg)

  • Feb 7th: sexitle Mercury in Aquarius (25 deg)

  • Feb 9th: square the South Node in Capricorn/North Node in Cancer (26 deg)

  • Feb 13th: conjunct Uranus (29 deg)

  • Feb 13th: opposite Pallas in Libra (29 deg)

  • Feb 14th: Taurus ingress

December 29th, 2018: Painful Issues

  • Third Quarter Square between the Libra Moon and Capricorn Sun (7 deg)

  • Mars conjunct Chiron in Pisces (28 deg)

A touchy day, as the Third Quarter Square raises questions about existing rules and traditions. Imbalances between you and another or in a home versus work situation will trigger tension between what’s established/proper versus what feels acceptable. Perhaps you’re trying to keep up the facade but on the inside you feel undervalued. Perhaps the friction between being nice versus being successful has brought you to a crisis point. How are your boundaries? It may be time to reconsider who you give access to. Do you feel respected?

Mars/Chiron will add to the tension by triggering a wound. Mars is the activator, so there’s no getting around this – it’s going to be uncomfortable. But a conjunction is also a new beginning, and Mars is Pisces is about actions that trigger release. So this is where you confront the wound and move past it. The issue may not be nicely wrapped up (Chiron’s wounds never vanish) but nonetheless, Mars says that you must keep on keeping on. Acknowledge what hurts, forgive, exhale and step forward.

This conjunction occuring on the same day as the Third Quarter Square means issues of boundaries and imbalances will be painful, but the questions this lunar phase raises must be acknowledged. Now is not the time to avoid or gloss over the awkward stuff.
