Mars’ Transit of Cancer, May 15th: It’s Personal

Mars into Cancer coincides with Venus’ Taurus ingress, continuing the (separating) sextile between them. Mars in Cancer is nurturing, moody, protective actions with a domestic edge – family first, even if you’re not fully aware of how family motivates you. As Mars continues to harmonize with Venus (until May 18th) nurturing actions can net you solid evidence (Taurus) of what you want.

Mars in Cancer acts instinctively – emotion trumps logic and motivations are passionate and somewhat childlike. Cancer takes everything personally, so this transit can be quite volatile. If someone loses their temper you can bet it’s because they feel they’ve been attacked on a personal level.

Anger, arousal or initiative are based on primary needs, or the fear that those needs are being denied. Never forget that Cancer is a Cardinal sign, so there can be outbursts of anger or strength when you least expect it. There can also be assertiveness based on the need to remain safe. This is the grip that tightens when you try to pull away – the ferocious hug or the aggressive mother/child.

During this transit, consider the most personal trigger for your motivations. It’s ok if you act on something because of how it makes you feel (comfortable or uncomfortable). You don’t need to explain this to anyone, but self-awareness is helpful (so you don’t become the rampaging child).

Here are the aspects Mars in Cancer will make:

  • May 18th: trine Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (1 deg)

  • May 22nd: sextile Uranus in Taurus (4 deg)

  • May 23rd: square Chiron in Aries (5 deg)

  • May 27th: inconjunct Ceres in Sagittarius (7 deg)

  • Jun 1st: square Pallas in Libra (10 deg)

  • Jun 12th: conjunct North Node (17 deg)

  • Jun 14th: trine Neptune in Pisces (18 deg)

  • Jun 14th: opposite Saturn Rx in Capricorn (18 deg)

  • Jun 14th: inconjunct Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (18 deg)

  • Jun 18th: conjunct Mercury (21 deg)

  • Jun 19th: opposite Pluto Rx in Capricorn (22 deg)

  • Jul 1st: Leo ingress

  • Waxing Trine between the Virgo Moon and Taurus Sun (23 deg)

  • Venus in Aries sextile Mars in Gemini (28 deg)

Today should be a basically harmonious day. The Waxing Trine helps you integrate improvements into what’s already been established. Just because it’s steady doesn’t mean it can’t stand a bit of refining. This energy enables the application of a few tweaks to what’s already working, so it can work even better.

Taurus is ruled by Venus and Venus’ sextile to Mars supports what’s happening with a gentle resonance between actions and what you want. Make a choice (Gemini) – assert your information/facts but do so lightly, and watch as this manifests what you want (Venus). Venus/Mars is quick energy so you’re not insisting on anything. One little push is all it takes. But the Waxing Trine in the Earth signs says this can result in something real.

The Venus/Mars connection can be flirtatious and a bit cheeky – Mars in Gemini is assertive teasing or verbal challenges, and Venus in Aries likes this (it’s hot). But what starts off as a spark can solidify into something more, via the Waxing Trine.

  • Mars in Gemini opposite Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (23 deg)

Actions (Mars) are at odds with expansion (Jupiter) but in this case it can lead to exaggerated efforts, big efforts or a massive leap of faith. Jupiter pumps up Mars’ actions in any aspect, but the opposition amplifies the speed and enthusiasm due to the tension (you’re trying to act on beliefs that are out of reach). Any combo of Mars/Jupiter can be “lucky” but it can also be careless. There’s a fine line.

A conclusion or result can hit quickly, and since Jupiter is retrograde this may be your second shot at something. This can be your breakthrough moment as you finally decide to do it. You could be pushing that choice (Gemini) forward, no matter what.

There is great potential for achievement, but there’s also a lack of satisfaction since Jupiter encourages Mars to pursue more/bigger. So you have to be careful that what you’re pushing doesn’t become so overwhelming that you lose control. Since we’re dealing with the Gemini/Sag axis, information, opinions and beliefs may be the fuel that drives you, as you act on what you’ve learned.

Look before you leap, and carefully consider the choice you’re about to make.

Since this is a conclusion, we look back to the last Jupiter/Mars conjunction to see when the seeds were planted. On Jan 6th, 2018 Mars conjoined Jupiter at 17 deg Scorpio; that was your start (on a deep, possibly secret level) to what’s happening now.

May 1st, 2019: Venus and Mars

  • Venus in Aries conjunct Vesta (12 deg)

  • Venus in Aries opposite Pallas Rx in Libra (13 deg)

  • Mars in Gemini inconjunct Saturn Rx/South Node in Capricorn (20 deg)

Venus

Venus/Vesta focuses on a key issue of aesthetics, relationships, money or values. The courage to try something new or stand up for what you want/love becomes a sacred matter. Vesta’s exclusive focus and Aries’ subjective energy means this issue should be primarily about you (even if someone else is involved). Are you attracting what reflects your courage? How does it feel to put yourself first?

This is about the independence to be or express what you want. Vesta’s purity is based on virginity (vestal virgins tended the sacred flame in Vesta’s temple) but the meaning of “virginity” was sexuality that did not belong to others. It was feminine energy that was self-contained and belonged to that woman alone.

As Venus opposes Pallas (in Venus-ruled Libra) this “me first” energy will challenge a relationship strategy. That’s ok, because there’s an imbalance that needs to be corrected. Something new is being introduced into the dynamics – something more assertive and selfish (selfish does not have to be a bad thing).

Mars

Mars’ flexible choices and fast-moving impulses are at odds with the Saturn/South Node ending. You may experience a block (from the past?) as you attempt to make something happen. You may feel pressured to choose a way to say goodbye.

With the inconjunct, you need to adjust both sides. Focus is needed, as is attention to the ending or responsibility. But don’t let this shut you down – keep moving and maintain your sense of curiosity and motivation. Some choices will be restricted, but you still have work to do.

April 27th, 2019: Questionable Motivations

  • Mars in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces (17 deg)

  • Mercury in Aries opposite Pallas Rx in Libra (14 deg)

Mars/Neptune

Mars/Neptune is confused or undermining actions. Mars in Gemini can jump between different choices, but then Neptune blurs the details and the choices slide in and out of focus. What you do may be questionable, deceptive or scattered (multiple starts that fizzle out).

Use caution with all actions and initiatives – have a backup plan and leave yourself extra time to compensate for difficulty in focusing. If you have any doubts about the integrity of what you’re doing (or what they’re doing) listen to those doubts. This aspect can indicate the stealthy side-step or endless distractions.

Mercury/Pallas

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, and Mercury is in Mars-ruled Aries. The assertive comment is too blunt for polite social strategies (Pallas in Libra) so there may be disagreements. But that assertiveness could be misguided. Go back to the primary motivations (Mars) for the disagreement- are they muddled or is there a deceptive side?
