New Moon in Aquarius: The Word from Lilith

The February 4th New Moon (15 deg Aquarius) conjoins Mercury and Black Moon Lilith. Here we have a new beginning that features information/communication about the dark lady.

BML in Aquarius is the taboo woman who does her own thing. She rebels against all the “shoulds” and makes most people uncomfortable because she is atypical- she does not act the way the rules say women “should” act. In general, BML is associated with women’s sexual power, the witch, the prostitute, the female demon or the woman who refuses to belong to any man.

In Aquarius, her outsider status is emphasized as is her tendency to draw people’s attention to uncomfortable but truthful subjects. Conjunct Mercury and this New Moon, we might expect a shot of disruptive clarity about a very uncomfortable subject. Since it’s a New Moon, there will be more to come – we’ve only started.

This Moon/Mercury/BML make a supportive sextile to Jupiter in Sagittarius. So despite the somewhat shocking nature of this energy, Jupiter offers optimism and luck. The word that’s revealed may come out in the best way at the best time. Others may be surprisingly receptive to what’s revealed, or the forward momentum of what’s happening may be increased with legal support, education or expansive views. In a harmonious sexitle to Mercury in open-minded Aquarius, Jupiter hints that the vibe is non-judgemental and unrestricted. So there’s plenty of room for this to grow.

Watch for some jarring revelations or conversations, but don’t be afraid of what you learn.

Note that this Moon will only be 1 degree off from an exact conjunction to the Saturn/Neptune midpoint. Saturn in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces will make the first of three exact sextiles on January 31st (at 15 deg). This sextile combines form (Saturn) and formlessness (Neptune) suggesting that dreams/belief can be given structure while structure can be gently changed. Activated by this Moon, it adds an undertone of existing rules gradually dissolving so something new can emerge. That works well with Aquarius’ energy.

January 27th, 2019: Questions for the Outsider

  • Third Quarter Square between the Scorpio Moon and Aquarius Sun (7 deg)

  • Vesta in Aquarius trine Pallas in Libra (27 deg)

The Third Quarter Square can raise some uncomfortable questions about a social ideal, drive for liberation or detachment. Now you need to look beneath the issue you’re currently viewing from a distance. There may be unpleasant truths or shadows that need to be confronted, but this will raise some pertinent questions about your group or place in society (even if you’re on the fringe).

Consider the dark side of liberation or escape – have you pulled away from something too quickly? What are your motivations for detaching? With any freedom comes loss, and this could be what you’re looking at now. If something intense is simmering beneath the surface, know that you can’t maintain the cool cover forever. Eventually you’ll have to dive in and feel, which will give you a brand new perspective on your connection to everyone else.

Vesta/Pallas can help you put some of this in perspective. Vesta in Aquarius is devotion to personal liberation, and when it harmonizes with Pallas in Libra, you can view your freedom in the context of its impact on your one-on-one relationships. Social strategies can work with independence – you don’t have to be isolated and others may support your solitary quest.

Mercury’s Transit of Aquarius: Pure Insight

pexels-photo-1274260.jpeg

Mercury enters Aquarius on January 24th, 2019. Information and communication becomes more innovative and more detached. Aquarius is a logical sign but that doesn’t mean it’s dry. This energy is about considering anything that’s surprising, shocking or ahead of its time.

True detachment allows you to see things that others would never consider. Mercury in Aquarius views without judgement and speaks the truth. Sometimes this clarity can be cold, but malice is not an Aquarian trait. What you learn during this brief transit will open your eyes without sweet sentiments, but also without cruelty.

Most people forget that this sign is Fixed. So while this transit can be an eye-opener, opinions are not always liberating. Certain opinions can be stubbornly expressed – an idea about how social issues “should” work may support breaking the current rules, but in its own way it can be just as rigid as the traditions it’s rejecting. Aquarius is full of odd contradictions – rebellious but insistent on a specific path of rebellion. Detached but blind to anything from the past (which can be viewed as useless). Distorted Aquarius refuses to look beyond the set definition of freedom, which of course defeats the entire purpose.

Watch out for any rabid speeches that blindly reject the status quo for no reason other than it’s the status quo.

On the plus side, this is the time to look beyond what you know. Although none of us can ever be truly detached, this energy can present opportunities that will bring you close to this state. You can also experience flashes of pure originality and (perhaps) a glimpse of the future. Aquarius’ association with technology and eccentric things supports cutting-edge, niche interests.

Here are the aspects Mercury in Aquarius will make:

  • Jan 29th: conjunct the Sun (9 deg)

  • Feb 3rd: sexitle Jupiter in Sagittarius (18 deg)

  • Feb 4th: conjunct Black Moon Lilith (20 deg)

  • Feb 7th: sextile Mars in Aries (25 deg)

  • Feb 8th: inconjunct the Cancer North Node (26 deg)

  • Feb 9th: sextile Uranus in Aries (29 deg)

  • Feb 9th: trine Pallas in Libra (29 deg)

  • Feb 10th: square Juno in Taurus (29 deg)

  • Feb 10th: Pisces ingress

January 23rd, 2019: The Awkward Details

  • Waning Inconjunct between the Virgo Moon and Aquarius Sun (3 deg)

  • Mercury in Capricorn square Uranus in Aries (28 deg)

  • Mercury in Capricorn sextile Chiron in Pisces (28 deg)

  • Mercury in Capricorn sextile Ceres in Scorpio (29 deg)

The Waning Inconjunct triggers awkward reminders that all is not complete after the January 20th/21st Full Moon eclipse.

There are some extra details to consider – a correction or picky addition that you’d rather detach yourself from. Maybe there’s a small inaccuracy that you just noticed (or that someone helpfully pointed out). After the eclipse’s dramatic illumination of power or ego, watch for a humbling reminder that the little things can seriously disrupt you if they’re not attended to. Fix it now and get it over with, then you can return to the bigger picture and issues of freedom, individuality and the future.

Mercury (ruler of Virgo) makes a square to Uranus (ruler of Aquarius). This gives us more info about the inconjunct- the flaw or detail will be surprising and may challenge set opinions or an official document/commitment. While inconvenient, the challenge is happening for a reason.

Note that Mercury’s sextiles to Chiron and Ceres suggest that the above disruption can free you up to confront a painful issue and accept some healing/nurturing. Rigid or uncompromising words/info will be given a shake, and perhaps that’s what needs to happen.

Now there’s room to talk about what hurts.
