Midwinter

I find myself fogbound in North Yorkshire on this Solstice Eve. Sound is muffled. Time and space are a mystery. The Sun is invisible, beyond the pale. It could be any time of day. Space indefinable: is the bent hawthorn near or far in the white? It is all still. At this most magical time, […]

Meghan, Harry and Diana’s Saturn Return

If ever you wondered whether this country were in the grip of a prolonged nervous breakdown, take a millisecond to peruse the extraordinary media response to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with the redoubtable queen across the water, Oprah Winfrey. That was aired last night in the US and it’s coming here this […]

Astrology of Now: Breaking an Agreement

The British government under the leadership of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his advisor Dominic  Cummings is attempting to pass a law to break international law on Monday. They are trying to pass a bill through parliament which will allow them to break the Brexit agreement which they signed with such fandango earlier this year. […]

The Mystery of the Missing Prime Minister

An odd feature of the current crisis — in this country — is the fact that the head of government has been missing for most of the time. Prime Minister Boris Johnson failed to take the pandemic seriously back in February, missing five meetings on the subject, taking two weeks’ holiday and generally fannying about. […]

Patterns

To understand astrology is to see patterns: geometry across space, cycles through time, patterns of behaviour or events. At the time of writing, a virus spreads across China, the president of the United States breaks that country’s constitution, locusts ravage East Africa, giant fires roar across Australia, the European Union loses a key member… There […]

What Astrologers Are Saying About The UK December Election

What a lousy election. What a lousy choice. Still, there’s always astrology to ding around with while the old structures crumble around our ears during this Pluto-Saturn cheek-to-cheek. A Void of Course Moon in Gemini on the night means, traditionally, it ain’t goin’ nowhere — nothing will come of it. Furthermore, Saturn in Capricorn will […]

Astrology of Now: The Law

Well, yesterday was quite the day for the law and democracy on both sides of the Atlantic. In London, the Supreme Court found that the government, and therefore Prime Minister Boris Johnson had broken the law when it suspended parliament. In fact, Judge Hale said that legally the “prorogation” did not happen. So parliament is back in business today. In the US, top democrat Nancy Pelosi has finally started an impeachment enquiry against Trump. “No one is above the law,”  she said. Both these legal decisions will have long-term effects on the law in both countries. The British Supreme Court […]

Astrology of Now: Flying Flamingoes, Black Rod, and the Bendings

Even by the standards of that operatic place, the scenes in parliament were extraordinarily theatrical last night. Starring roles this time were taken by– Mr John Bercow as The Speaker Ms Sarah Clarke as Black Rod House of Commons as The Chorus Opposition Benches as The Choir It’s always nice to learn a new word. According to my on-line dictionary prorogation is “the action of discontinuing a session of a parliament or other legislative assembly without dissolving it.” This happens for a few days between parliamentary session, the average is about eight days — and then they all gather again. This time […]
