Chrissie Hynde, Leader of the Band

“Now, let me assure you that, technically speaking, however you want to look at it, this was all my doing and I take full responsibility.” — Chrissie Hynde could be talking about her whole life in that one sentence. Everyone had that album: the Pretenders first. Pictured: a line up — sulky  Chrissie Hynde in a ketchup-coloured jacket with the three male members of the band in black, variously posing. There she is, just one of the band — and at the same time, so startlingly different. Hynde was no floaty hippie chick, like the women in Fleetwood Mac or even Grace Slick; she wasn’t […]

Zenobia And The Temple of Bel

The warrior queen Zenobia passed under that Zodiac dozens, maybe hundreds, of times. By the start of her reign in the 3rd century BC, the Temple of Bel in Palmyra was already 200 years old. Its fabulous portico with the seven planets personified, surrounded by the signs of the Zodiac, would have been a familiar part of the sacred furniture of the the queen’s great desert city. Subsequent generations of travellers to the Middle East crossed the desert to visit Zenobia’s city, inspired by the legend of the warrior queen and rumours of the romance of the ruins. Isobel Burton, writing in the 1870s, […]

Astrology of Now: Overwhelming

Jupiter in Virgo opposition Neptune in Pisces — September 17 Readers of the horoscope will know that the coming opposition between Jupiter and Neptune is the most important aspect this month, influencing this entire period into the next season and possibly the whole year.  For some people it will be the most important aspect of a lifetime. For the refugees walking out of danger, the meaning of this aspect is clear, but every single one of us feels this one. Neptune in Pisces is super-powered. Jupiter, opposing him, both magnifies the power and distributes it. This aspect is about huge […]

Refugees: Jupiter-Neptune In Action

Last week, I did a talk at Aquarius Severn which included a short picture essay. I’ll show it to you here. Remember that Neptune and Jupiter, the planets that promote flow, meet across the mutable Virgo-Pisces axis once a century. Talk On Astrology Of Now

I’m very pleased that Aquarius Severn has asked me back for a third time. I will be giving a talk on Thursday, September 3 in Cheltenham. Click here for details of how to get there. Since I’m stepping in at the last minute, they’ve asked me to throw together a smorgasbord of ideas, so I’ll be looking at the Neptune-Jupiter opposition, the refugee crisis, Corbynmania, ISIS, Jupiter in Virgo and whatever else crops up. I hope we’ll have a good freewheeling discussion. I’m bringing plenty of charts. See you there. PS If you run an astrology group and you’d like […]

Here Are Refugees

According to the on-line Oxford English Dictionary a migrant is “A worker who moves from place to place to do seasonal work.” A refugee is “A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster:” It’s a disgrace that the BBC and The Guardian are still calling the people pouring out of Syria and Iraq migrants. Words matter. These people are refugees. There’s a holocaust on Europe’s doorstep. We have seen this insanity before: in Rwanda, in Congo, in Cambodia, in Germany. The behaviour of ISIS or Daesh or whatever you […]

Big Aspects To Watch Out For: Jupiter in Virgo Two

Jupiter in Virgo — August 11, 2015 – 9 September 2016 The 12-year cycle of Jupiter is one of the most important to understand and work with in your own life. So right now, it’s worth looking back at the last time Jupiter was in Virgo –  from 27 August 2003 to 25 September 2004 – and racking your brain to remember what happened during that period. But that will only give you part of the story. You are 12 years older for a start, and your life will be in an entirely different phase. Not only that, Jupiter makes […]

God Is In The Detail: Jupiter in Virgo Part One

Jupiter in Virgo — August 11, 2015 – 9 September 2016 When the planet of expansion spends a year in a sign that’s all about detail, you might expect things to get a little distorted, or even out of proportion. But this change in perspective can be soul-awakening on a personal level. Jupiter in Virgo is  Zen. It’s about diving right into everyday minutiae, and instead of seeing it as boring and trivial, understanding that getting the porridge absolutely perfect is actually another route to the divine. Virgo is the sign of craftsmanship: the cobbler, the potter, the weaver. Every […]

The Labour Party’s Misty Meltdown

Of course it’s one thing to look at Jeremy Corbyn’s chart. He is clearly having a high old time, but we really ought to look at the chart of the Labour Party to get an idea of what’s going on. I asked my friend Liz, who is a fount of natal charts, what she had for the British Labour Party. Here’s what she said: “Nick Campion gives two: 27th Feb 1900 and 12th Feb 1906. Both noon in London. There are arguments for both; the later date is more the foundation of the Parliamentary Labour Party, the former is when […]
