Happy Valentine’s Day!

With the lovers Mars and Venus both in hot and impulsive Aries, opposite the Moon in Libra, the sign of relationships, this looks like quite a zingy sort of day— and indeed a day to focus on relationships. Later in the day, the Moon will trigger that ferocious Uranus-Jupiter-Pluto opposition/square. A happy day to you all!

Vivienne Westwood: Venus in Aries

Vivienne Westwood started her career running a shop called Sex at the grubby end of the King’s Road — first stop on London’s punk trail in the 1970s. Today, she is a doyenne of fashion world — doing the whole cat-walk-show thing and yet still a social revolutionary. With her North Node and Midheaven in Libra, the sign of couture, her chosen profession comes as no surprise — and with fiery Sagittarius Rising plus theatrical Moon in Leo square Uranus, nor does her propensity for making outrageous remarks and shocking fashion statements. The inconjunct between Moon and Mercury in Pisces might […]

Dickens

It’s Charles Dickens birthday today. He lived the potential of his chart well. Writer and storyteller Virgo Rising, Gemini MC You see this combination quite often in writer’s charts. Both signs are ruled by Mercury, the planet of communications. Jupiter in Gemini, Jupiter in the 10th Jupiter (a little widely) on the point of a Yod from Mercury and Uranus North Node in Virgo Virgo is also good for editing. Here the Node points to his destiny Mercury on the point of an equilateral triangle from Uranus and Pluto. Uranus does often seem to feature strongly in the charts of […]

Astrology of Now: Countering The Ugly

February is a fast and urgent month with Mars, Venus and Uranus in fiery, furious Aries. Mars in his own sign is rather unbridled, Venus in her opposite sign is not doing her usual harmony, sweetness and light thing and Uranus is spitting sparks. Somewhere in your life there’s probably a bit of a turmoil or drama. But frankly, this whole past 12-month has proved to be a challenge for those of us with tree-hugging, peace-loving, rose-tinted spectacle wearing tendencies. There’s a lot of ugly out there. But astrology does offer us some ideas of how to handle the rough stuff. Jupiter, the planet […]

One Minute of Astrology on the Beeb

As you may already know, I talk to Alex “the Dark Lord” Lester on BBC Oxford on the first Friday of every month at around 1.30GMT. From January, Alex’s producer is making a short video of me on the day. I’m allowed one minute — an interesting challenge. Here’s today’s — on the right. Note to self: try not to look so serious.

February Horoscopes

As you might expect February is roaring in, breathing fire and brimstone. Mars, the planet of war, aggression and action, is in his own sign Aries — and he seems to be in fighting mode. He’ll be arguing with Pluto and then running slap into electrical Uranus on February 27. This is not a good day to jump into your jalopy and hit the road, by the way. It looks like something is going to blow. This combustible atmosphere starts right from the beginning of the month and just builds. The last 10 days are especially fraught. Meanwhile, Venus is also in […]

The Year of the Fire Rooster

I asked my friend Tomaš D’Aradia — an aficionado of Chinese astrology — to write a short introduction to this year. Welcome to the Year of the Rooster! Before you heave a sigh of relief at surviving 2016’s Year of the Fire Monkey, be advised: 2017 is also a Fire year, and it is a worthy sequel. Buckle up for a year of constant excitement, dazzling spectacle and hard work. This is going to be a brash, showy year full of contradictions. Big parades and grand gestures throughout the Rooster year might suggest that ego and self-ag- grandisement rule the world, and that good […]

Catch You Later, President Obama

Barack and Michelle Obama may have left the White House today, but they have certainly not left politics. In fact, Obama’s career as a world leader and elder statesman has only just begun. While he was president Obama carried a burden of huge responsibility, without always being able to wield a huge amount of power, because the Republican-led congress was determined to thwart him. From the autumn of 2012, Saturn — which can be quite oppressive — was moving across the top of Obama’s chart from the cusp of the 9th house to the cusp of the 11th. During this second term […]

Venus in Pisces: Dirty Sweet

Those of you following this Venus in… series will know already that Venus is not entirely about how you look. For that we look at the Ascendant and planets aspecting it. Venus though can tell us what makes you attractive, or even what makes you beautiful. So it’s pretty interesting that the first three names that came up on my database when I typed in Venus in Pisces were: Michelle Obama, Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King. Presumably we can discount Jesus, since last I knew there was some controversy over his exact birthdate, so the next one down is Kurt […]
