Ghislaine Maxwell’s Saturn Returns

When you venture into the dark woods of fairy tale, be careful of the creatures you meet — they might not be what they seem. The wolf may speak like a gentleman, the witch may live in a house of gingerbread. Hansel and Gretel’s witch lured them with sugarplums and cake; then she imprisoned them to fatten them up so she could eat them. Many fairy tales carry warnings about the dangers of the world — sometimes outside the family home and sometimes within its walls. There are ogres and trolls out there, giants and monsters, wicked step-mothers and jealous […]

Your Month Ahead Podcast: Surprises, Virgos and more

Sally and I met at Kew Gardens in west London as an homage to earthy Virgo. It was indeed a day of sunshine and flowers. Kew Gardens is one of the world’s foremost collections of specimen plants and seeds from around the globe. It’s also an extraordinarily beautiful and magical public park stretched alongside the Thames as it narrows towards Richmond. Kew also has some of the world’s largest glasshouses crammed with plants from around the globe. Two are spectacular Victorian constructions of iron and glass with high walkways so you can see the tops of the trees. So you […]

Hong Kong

Hong Kong vibrates with people power: people working, thinking, talking, praying, eating, walking, haggling, hawking, kissing, cooking, spitting, stealing, fighting, laughing, buying and selling. Standing on the Star Ferry coming into Central earlier this year, I swear I could feel the straight energy lines of intelligence, money, chatter pouring out of the city and across the harbour like a million laser beams. This extraordinary, palpable energy is noted by most visitors to the city. With the wild mountains at its back and the harbour and its feet, the city is nestled between two implacable natural forces. Practitioners of Feng Shui […]

August Asteroids

Taking a quick look at what the asteroids are up to at the moment. Juno, Pallas, Ceres and Vesta move slowly enough to have serious impact, and quickly enough to be entertaining. Getting to know your asteroids adds a little turmeric and chili, ginger and garlic to your horoscopic stew. Especially relevant for some signs, of course. Some ideas to ponder when it comes to social contracts…

Toni Morrison and Black Moon Lilith

I’ve been thinking about the American writer Toni Morrison today, the day after she died, and remembering her book Beloved, which won her the Pulitzer Prize, and is considered by most critics to be her masterpiece. Beloved tells the story — in densely poetic language and imagery — of a haunting. But the ghost is a toddler’s, the ghost of a child murdered by her mother so that she cannot be taken into slavery. These are Sethe, the mother’s thoughts, as she kills her child, named only Beloved, to save her. “And if she thought anything, it was No. No. […]

Your Month Ahead Podcast: July 22-August 23

The astrology podcast that puts the month ahead into context. (I think we can all look forward to some fun times.) And, maybe just as importantly, takes a look back at what’s been happening in the previous 30 days, so we can all learn how to read the signs. Late July and August look pretty fiery, a dramatic change from the swirling waters of Cancer that we’ve just passed through. And Mars in Leo may finally get his mojo on too. There’s some really lucky cosmic energy coming up in the next few weeks, so be sure not to miss […]

Glass Skin

Until last week, I’d never heard of it either — “glass skin”; skin so luminous, transparent and flawless that it might be sculpted from glass. Apparently, it’s the “latest beauty trend”.  The marketers of certain cosmetics can hear the kerching of cash tinkling into tills across the globe. Although these days, money changes hands silently, sliding from one account to another with invisible efficiency, so perhaps its more of a slither than a kerching. Glass skin is achieved — apparently — with a 10-step cleansing routine first made popular in Korea, and spread through social media. And there’s the key […]
