Fuelled with an accurate time of birth, a somewhat novel event for British astrologers, we are able to instantly draw up a birth chart for the baby Prince. As it turned out the precise time of birth mattered a great deal since the Sun, Moon and Venus all changed sign that day.

Fascinating to see that the bright shining solar energy of this baby born to be King was not Leo the Royal sign after all but Cancer the sign of ‘the clan’. The Sun’s degree at 29.58 is literally the tail end of the sign of Cancer, a few minutes later and it would have been Leo. But no, clearly this baby’s purpose, the Sun, is to address full on and even embody, family, hereditary, the past, roots, clan and tribe.
The sign Cancer can be a totem for country, tribe, religion, faith, family, or nation, which people gather around, examples, include the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela.

The Sun also symbolises what each of us draws from our father or paternal heritage and this Royal baby’s father is Prince William, his grandmother, Princess Diana and ‘step-grandmother’, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall who were born under the sign of Cancer.

When a planet is in the last degree of a sign it is an anaretic degree or a critical degree. This is the planet having a last and final gasp in this sign and going out with a bang. Planets in the anaretic degree seem to boldly embody the qualities of the sign, they declare loud and proud ‘here I am, this is me!’

Cancerian issues for this Royal baby will be unavoidable and obvious. The Cancer issues, clan, heritage, possession, lineage, tradition and FAMILY-FAMILY-FAMILY!

This Cancerian family orientated Sun, using Whole Sign Houses, is tightly tugging at the 10th house Leo cusp as close as it possibly can so the Solar, male, father principle is right at the top of the chart, the highest aspiration and greatest ambition, it is at the peak of its purpose, on the cusp of Kingly Royal Leo. In other words saying ‘I have a Cancerian Daddy who is King, who is much admired and who I will closely follow’.

Bringing us quickly onto the Mother principle, which we should be quick about when dealing with Cancer, symbolised by the Moon, the ruler of Cancer. This Royal baby’s Moon is again tightly attached to the Male Solar principle as it lies exactly opposite in the sign of traditional Capricorn, which incidentally, is also the Sun Sign of the baby’s mother the Duchess of Cambridge. Babies born with a Capricorn Moon tend to be asked to grow up quickly, to curb childlike impulses and to be mature. The ways of the world can weigh heavy on their shoulders, and Mum is perceived often as being drawn into the world of work or public life. This lunar principle is tucked as tight as can be to the cusp of the 4th house, underneath just a toddler clinging onto mummy’s skirt but all the while peaking out.

Sun in Cancer – Emotional Pitstop

On June 21st 2013 the Sun traveller moved country, this time it gently swam the breaststroke, gliding through the water sign of Cancer. It felt good to ease and feel our way through, to suss out and pick up on things that at first glance appeared to appear as inconsequential. We received and tuned into to all manner of messages, as more often than not we ‘got it’ as we subtly navigated our way through the shallows and the depths and the rise and fall of our warmer (Northern Hemisphere) days and nights. Our emotions and impressions were tidal, our days washed seamlessly into the nights, life surged one minute and drew back the next. Up and down we bobbed grabbing onto whatever flotsam and jetsam washed past us as we closely examined it so that its purpose could be established where upon it may be discarded or possessed accordingly…and then we also waited…

Our purpose, the Sun, during Cancer the Crab time, will have been to develop and establish a base of emotional security both for ourselves and others, we may have to build from the bottom up, starting from scratch, but at least we have the power to decide and choose the pattern of the foundations. This is building block time, this is time to have gathered the materials and people and ideas from which the rest of the year will pivot. Hope you felt the need to gather, gather, gather, choose wisely come from your heart, gut and soul and not have been solely rely on intellect and just what we are told, or previously learnt, instead hope we all tried to take everything for their merits as we saw fit and judge things as fresh, new and pure.

This Cancer space that the Sun, our purpose, found itself in was extremely favourable to our efforts to gather, intuit and hone in on what it is you need. It will have supported our efforts to deeply and sensitively connect emotionally. Exercise our gut feelings, our impulses to nurture, grow and care. We have wanted to direct our energies into your nest, those closest to us or into our own inner nature. We will have responded in our own unique ways and given value to these responses, as they are our truth bearers guiding us into further understandings.

There was a shift to the emotional the imaginative, the mystical as we drawn to things that gently whisper to and coax our soul. There is always the constant sound of the sea drawing us ever deeper into the inky blackness of the unknown. We will have been tantalised by things just out of reach, which requires a stretch to grab hold of. Things that we know may drive us to the edge but can also offer sweet rewards. Things may not have seemed as cut and dry as they were during the Gemini month as we became thirsty for moisture.
As we all journeyed with the Sun, we all moved into Cancer’s facility to gather, absorb, digest and adopt. It’s symbol is the crab, hard shell outing covering a tender underbelly. Cancer the Crab a creature at home on land or water, sea or rock, sand or ocean. Just as long as it has a home. During Cancer time we may have been questioning, scrutinising and digesting issues of home, family, our roots and un-rootedness. Some of which may be highly indigestible but this will not stop us trying to understand. We may be examining our emotional connections as if our lives depended on it no matter how long that life is.
Fu Suqing has Sun in Cancer
She was a baby 115 years ago and she is applying to the Guiness Book of Records as the oldest woman.
Here are a couple of Cancerian secrets: 1) they will ALWAYS long for home and 2) they long to travel. This is a combination of the stable and the unstable, desperate to make a secure purchase from insecure fragments, to make a home whilst scoping out the next current that will take it away to new waters. Welcome to Cancer waters, which are where, we, as the Sun traveller, found ourselves. These issues and behavior’s will have been all around us, whether we like it or not, whether we pondered, answered, deliberately evaded or debated them, at some level we will have met them face to face.
So what can we have expected as Cancerian energy poured down to us through the Sun’s rays? After all we will have been affected whether we were indoors, outdoors, sleeping or waking, we were be saturated in its radical and far-reaching power. We could expected to be more sensitive, family-aware, nostalgic and sentimental. We may have ‘disappeared’ into our selves for periods of time, as we nipped off the radar to attend to very personal business.
The zone’s presided over by Cancer in our lives will start to undergo their annual scoping and securing. If you have planets ‘tuned in’ to receive Cancer energy then they will vibrate easily to this energy, if you are Venus in Cancer the way you relate and how you receive love and money will have got a boost. If you have Mars here, the way you marshal your troops to attack or defend will have come to the ascendancy. You may well be called up to defend someone you love.
Sun in Cancer time, the end of June beginning of July is about deeply engaging on an emotional level, it will involve some face-to-face time with family or past issues. We will be challenged to merge with our soul, to contact ancient energies and then to move forward into the future with the past just a little bit more integrated. We don’t want to get stuck in the past the currents of the ocean will draw us forward and part of us will be thrilled by it and feel that we are in flow with our purpose but cleansing the past may take a few pitstops. As we pull into Cancer time for just one of those pitstops remember to take the time to pullover.

Mercury in Cancer – Postcards From The Waters Edge

| Princess of Wales Diana Spencer has Mercury in Cancer Eliza Kewark was shunned by the father of her child and his family, referred to as the ‘housekeeper’, with the stigma of illegitimacy and being part-Indian with ‘coloured blood’ in 18th century British India. Her child sent away to England, her DNA passed to Diana, BritainsDNA traced back 7 generations making Eliza Kewark Diana’s great great great great grandmother. ‘I just want someone to be there for me, to make me feel safe and secure’ Lady Di’, ‘the Peoples Princess’ reflected some of these unresolved issues. Her firstborn, Prince William, also Sun in Cancer was born in the summer of 1982, her grandson Prince George born on the 22 July 2013. |
Mercury moved country on the 1st June 2013 from the varied and variable wind space of Gemini into the unfathomable and confusing water spaces of Cancer. Well, Cancer is a water sign but its symbol is the Crab, not just a water creature or just a land creature but happily straddling both terrains. The Crab is certainly a strange looking creature with its eyes sticking out on stalks and its characteristic way of walking sideways! Consequently, hope you did not expect things to be straightforward, direct, clearly defined, uncomplicated or predictable with Cancer involved. In fact, during Mercury’s ‘stay’ there, if we can call it that, as it may have felt like quite some movement for Cancer. Well, Mercury did its own very strange, seemingly weird thing whilst ‘staying’ there it also appeared to go backwards on itself, it went Retrograde. Yes, Mercury Retrograde in the already perplexing sign of Cancer. Scribbles & Moonwalks – Mercury in Retrograde
Mercury’s retrograde period started on the 27th June 2013 and goes on until the 21st July 2013, but hold on, there was another spanner thrown into the works in this sign, which already specialises in serious spanner throwing anyway, there was also an accompanying period of time called the ‘Shadow Lands’.Mercury Shadowland In A HeatHaze
From the 10th June 2013 until the 26th June 2013 where many irregularities and unforeseen events may have occurred.
Mercury in Pisces Shadowland Smoke Signals
Basically during Shadow Lands time we have a need to be prepared for the unpreparable, trying hard to embrace the paradox or is that the parasol, trying not to forget our raincoats and any other form of protection. Mercury in Cancer can bring, carry or trade in information or bits and bobs that could be scavenged along the shore lines, even making a home from this and that, collecting discarded shells and leftovers from other inhabitants. A great deal of creativity is required during this period, as well as patience. Ahh, sweet, sweet patience, these traits will serve you well, trust me.
The roads in this land may sometimes seem mysterious, poetic and indeed may require a fishing license, but turning off the logical left brain and entertaining the right side for a while may make the difference between winning and losing or getting what you want and getting what you need. You just need a hefty dose of trust and then let go of the rock you may have been clinging to to get carried by the currents of the ocean for a while. Whose knows where you may find yourself, in fact you may just do that exactly
Find yourself that is!
This is the water zone and territory Cancer we will inhabit, as we do every year, and it is to this language we should became acclimatized. Whenever Mercury changes sign, we need to learn a whole new language and adapt to completely different customs to the ones we have become used and familiar. Mercury affects the way we process and deal with information. In other words: how we talk, think, chat, twitter, blog, text, write, read, listen and learn and Cancer is an acquisitive sign, and wants much to learn. When given the facts Mercury in Cancer will just drift off and devise its own unique world regardless of the one occupied by others. True it is intuitive and imaginative but at its worst also capricious and defensive.
When Mercury passes through such a tenacious a sign we can expect to collect and save a plethora of information, after all who knows what use we can make of it some time in the future, but for now lets just scoop it up and nestle it and add it to our nest. Information will be sieved and savoured through a complex set of filters and the most seemingly unwanted, discarded or innocuous snippet can be creatively put to good use and nurtured by this gatherer of the cosmos. You may be surprised that information gathered from and through your unconscious, your imagination as well as your logical frontal lobe cortex will yield a ramshackled shelter of sorts.
Mercury is travel, trade, exchange, communication and busy activity and here in ‘what can I make of this?’ Cancer it can appear to scoop out every piece of information that floats in front of its pincers. Everything is assessed for further usefulness and even if this is not evident a creative solution can probably be found to ensure its purposefulness in the future.
You and others around you seem to be that much more sensitive and emotional. We may notice the slightest changes in atmosphere and register the flimsiest of pressure shifts. Hyper attuned and highly perceptive, not much will escape our notice, even with our eyes closed. Our children, our friends, our partners, teachers, bosses, neighbours, all the sellers selling seashells along the seashore, will be a little more imaginative, nostalgic and more than a little ‘spooky’. With this Mercury, our communications are about to get much more personal, for good or bad, sometimes very bad.
Whilst we will all feel this change, this mental shift, how will it affect us specifically? The sign of Cancer sits somewhere in our birth chart, even if we do not have any planets in this sign. We will always have Cancerian County somewhere in our psyche. It is this Cancer zone which has Mercury as a house guest. This is where we will have to be more accommodating, where we have to to shake out the duvet and put out some fresh flowers to make this energy welcome and feel at home so it can do what it needs to do whilst tending to matters close to heart. It may even have bouts of homesickness as it yearns for communion and grieves separation from something.
If you know where your ‘Cancerian Reef’ is then be prepared for things to be inside out and outside in. It is here that you may be trying to exercise intuition and sensitivity. Take your time and respect the issues affected in this part of your chart. For instance, Cancer may be in your 2nd house of ‘Money & Resources’, Mercury here will probably prompt you to think about and plan changes which impact your bank balance. Or if Cancer covers your 7th house or zone of ‘Partnerships’ your plans could be in for a major overhaul concerning your significant other(s), contracts/partnerships/the public. Making the adjustments will now tend to go more smoothly. Or is Cancer pulling at your Venus, and if so, maybe these few weeks will get you thinking about deepening, or severing, your commitment to what you have previously placed a high value on or maybe re-value.
Lets hope you were able to make the most of your facility to think things through deeply and intuitively and to utilise your impulse to nurture and protect and make connections previously ignored. Apply your mind to the realms which lie outside of logic, oh yes. Settle your minds eye in your driftwood home and watch the ceaselessly moving landscape but know that soon the tide will turn and all those pieces of driftwood will become a raft floating on the water, drifting out from the known into the unknown. Then just see if your eyes don’t come out on stalks as they scope out all the up and coming possibilities rushing by before you along your personal shoreline or unsureline.
