Venus and Lilith

Venus in Scorpio completes the last of three squares to Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius. The first square occured on September 16th, and the second (when Venus was Rx) on October 17th, so this issue has been active for a few months.

Venus in Scorpio maintains her power by keeping secrets, exploring what’s hidden and possessing. At the same time, she demands absolute intimacy and pushes past all limits (the deepening spiral of honesty regarding what’s really loved/desired). This could apply to relationship, self-esteem or financial issues. BML in Aquarius would disrupt this with challenges based on the freedom to break away via “unacceptable” or shocking female behaviour/issues. Black Moon Lilith is the outsider and dangerous woman.

Her ongoing conflict with Venus in Scorpio since September points to a crisis between power and freedom, possession and detachment, darkness and clarity (Aquarius). As this issue concludes today, there may be a final crisis. Venus and BML are two different expressions of female energy – Venus attracts while Lilith rejects all those who would seek to control her. What are you trying to liberate yourself from? Or (conversely) what resources are you trying to preserve/draw towards you?

Juno

Meanwhile, Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) makes a trine to Juno Rx. The fixed (Taurus) relationship agreement (Juno) is empowered through deep transformation (Pluto). And soon after, Juno stations direct, which means the agreement moves forward.

There is no stagnation here – the relationship review (Rx) led to a change, and now you progress. This is necessary even in the most settled agreements.

I discussed the Juno/Pluto trine in this post from December 17th, when these dynamics were first triggered by Mars in Pisces:

“Mars also makes a sextile to Juno Rx so we know the above involves a relationship (business or personal) agreement. Right now it’s under review and Mars’ sextile activates energetic progress. You’re not just sitting and pondering the terms of the agreement, you and another are taking action to revise it.

Note that Juno will trine Pluto two times:

  • Dec 23rd (Juno Rx)

  • Dec 31st (Juno direct)

Juno/Pluto is the profound commitment that harmonizes with slow change and empowers both parties as it evolves. The process has started now (the trine is within orb) and the Mars sextile suggests following the route of intuitive action to make it happen.”

So the second trine is approaching at the end of the month- great news for those who are ready for a serious commitment to evolve. You can treat Dec 23rd-31st as one influence: a time of increasing strength between you and another. This strength will be based on mutual awareness of the need for change.

Consider how this might be connected to the tension between Venus and BML, especially Venus’ possession and exploration of what’s hidden. What has that tension clarified?

Capricorn Season and the Climb

Capricorn season begins again on December 21st, bringing us to the Winter Solstice and the turning point that marks a new year for many. On the shortest day, we become aware of the cycle of the year and patterns related to rules, traditions and structures (Capricorn). Which structures support us and which ones limit us?

The awareness of dark and the light that follows (as the days become longer) draws our attention to what’s being reborn in our future. It’s a time to acknowledge what’s ending and what we have to look forward to.

Today’s Mercury/Jupiter and Venus/Neptune aspects (described in my other post) give this turning point a hopeful, open feel- certainly a moment to look up and out.

Capricorn itself is a sign of focus, authority and maturity. It’s about discipline and consequences – you do the work and see the results. Or you avoid your responsibilities and reap those results. This year, there’s more at stake because Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) is in its home sign, so the consequences of the burdens you shoulder or ignore will be heavier. There are things that must be taken seriously and work that must be done. The rewards can be greater if you do what you have to do, but certain burdens will also be much greater (and will not feel rewarding in the short term). While this doesn’t seem to blend with “hopeful” know that work and responsibilities form the foundation of the steps you ascend.

Here are the aspects the Sun in Capricorn will make:

  • Dec 22nd: Full Moon in Cancer (0 deg)

  • Jan 2nd: conjunct Saturn (11 deg)

  • Jan 4th: sextile Neptune in Pisces (14 deg)

  • Jan 5th: New Moon eclipse (15 deg)

  • Jan 11th: conjunct Pluto (20 deg)

  • Jan 12th: trine Juno in Taurus (22 deg)

  • Jan 15th: square Pallas in Libra (25 deg)

  • Jan 16th: conjunct the South Node (26 deg)

  • Jan 17th: sextile Ceres in Scorpio (27 deg)

  • Jan 18th: sextile Chiron in Pisces (28 deg)

  • Jan 18th: square Uranus in Aries (28 deg)

  • Jan 20th: Aquarius ingress

  • Waxing Trine between the Aries Moon and Sagittarius Sun (26 deg)

  • Mars in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn (20 deg)

  • Mars in Pisces sextile Juno Rx in Taurus (20 deg)

Aries courage and force blends with Sagittarius’ expansive outlook for a gutsy, optimistic vibe. This is the time to roll forward – there should be a path of least resistance and a natural flow of adventure that encourages you to go for it. Great for starting something that requires extra energy.

Fortunately, you’ve also got a Mars/Pluto sextle happening. Mars (ruler of Aries) is empowered by Pluto so there’s extra force behind those actions. But Mars in Pisces flows rather than pushes and – intuitive effort can make a huge impact. Try stepping back and watching what unfolds, then act on that, rather than trying to control events. Loosening your grip can actually intensify your efforts.

Mars also makes a sextile to Juno Rx so we know the above involves a relationship (business or personal) agreement. Right now it’s under review and Mars’ sextile activates energetic progress. You’re not just sitting and pondering the terms of the agreement, you and another are taking action to revise it.

Juno/Pluto is the profound commitment that harmonizes with slow change and empowers both parties as it evolves. The process has started now (the trine is within orb) and the Mars sextile suggests following the route of intuitive action to make it happen. Don’t force it – go with what’s unfolding and drift forward. It may not seem like you’re making progress but trust that you are.

Agreements that are in the works today can see lucrative, constructive developments.

Full Moon in Cancer: The Family Turning Point

August Wilhelm Dankworth

August Wilhelm Dankworth

The December 22nd Full Moon takes place at 0 deg Cancer, the day after the Sun’s Capricorn ingress (December 21st) and the start of the Winter Solstice.

This Full Moon essentially marks the shortest day and a major turning point in the year. The Full Moon is an ending or result but 0 degrees is a beginning. This lunation will embody the extra power of this solstice – the point where things are as dark as they can be and the corresponding climb towards longer days.

The Winter Solstice is a time to acknowledge (but not remain stuck in) the past, traditions and structures (Capricorn). Capricorn is the sign of patient ambition – the long, slow climb towards achievement, which we can see reflected in the climb towards longer days. But the Moon itself is in Cancer, so the theme here will be how external definitions of success are reflected in your inner life – how or if your needs are being met. How you look out for your needs. How you climb towards new definitions of security and safety that work for you.

What’s ending and starting now will take work (Capricorn) – yes, it takes work to truly align yourself with what you need (Cancer). It’s not easy to tune into this stuff, past all the layers/programming from the past and society’s rules.

This Moon makes no aspects to any planets so its energy is quite pure and the resulting emotions (Cancer) will be at a peak. Be prepared for major moods and nostalgia. Pay attention to what you feel – if you feel it, it’s valid (don’t let others tell you you’re being too…whatever). The Cancer/Capricorn axis is lit up along with the themes of child/parent, mother/father, neediness/authority. Parental/family themes are very strong, which is appropriate during the holidays. Count on at least one domestic turning point or conclusion.

Note that the transiting North Node (ruled by the Moon) is currently in Cancer and the transiting South Node is in Capricorn. While not conjoining this lunation, the path from past (South Node) to future (North Node) is illuminated by this Full Moon – stepping away from outdated definitions of security and looking at what really matters, in your gut and heart.

Could this approaching New Year be the one where you honour your needs, look after yourself or deal with parent/child issues? What inheritances are you stepping away from?

December 10th, 2018: Breakaway

  • Moon in Capricorn conjunct the South Node (27 deg)

  • Moon in Capricorn sextile Chiron in Pisces (27 deg)

  • Moon in Capricorn sextile Mercury in Scorpio (28 deg)

  • Moon in Capricorn square Uranus Rx in Aries (28 deg)

  • Moon Void of Course in Capricorn (28 deg at 4:26 PM EST)

  • Moon enters Aquarius and VOC ends (6:39 PM EST)

Today is a day to break with a section of your past.

The Capricorn Moon may activate some old issues as it passes over the South Node. Outdated rules, fears, limits and traditions may be triggered, but the Moon’s sextiles to Chiron and Mercury (which will briefly reactivate yesterday’s Mercury/Chiron trine) suggests there’s healing words/thoughts available. Old rules can provide structure and context for your current healing work. If you’re saying goodbye, it helps to focus on the issue and identify those boundaries.

As the Moon squares Uranus (which will be the last aspect it makes before it goes VOC) watch for an abrupt change – a prompt to update or liberate, via a disruption. If you feel the unavoidable urge to break with tradition, know that this is timely.

The Moon’s brief Void of Course will allow you to sit with the change before its Aquarius ingress. Appropriately, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus so you have a prompt to detach, experiment or step into something brand new.
