Mercury’s Transit of Cancer: Speaking When You’re Vulnerable

pexels
Mercury enters Cancer on June 4th, giving all communication and information a very personal spin. Cancer is the sign of home, family (especially mother/child) needs and inner security. Words will be subjective and may make you feel vulnerable. On the other hand, this is the transit to say what you really feel; empathy, neediness and protectiveness can be communicated.
Mercury in Cancer is able to communicate ideas in a way that everyone feels – everyone can connect with the message because it will resonate with them on a personal level, whether or not it’s targeted at them. So this can be a good time to (carefully) make your message public if you want to reach a wide audience on a gut level. At the same time, be aware that what you hear may or may not be meant to hit you in your soft spot. Even if it sounds like it’s all about your mother/past/inner child, you may just be resonating with the overall vibe.
Think before you respond- Mercury is a Cardinal sign and impulse (hurt, sadness, fear, possessiveness) can trigger emotional responses that say more than you counted on. This is the flood of words that rips off the bandage from the past and exposes your most private issues – this is fine if you’re ready to be verbally naked.
Mercury will exit this sign for Leo on June 26th, but will return to Cancer on July 19th, due to its retrograde. I’ll write about the Rx details during Mercury’s Leo transit, but know that Mercury Rx will reactivate 29 to 23 deg Cancer – questions about the impulsive words or a second look at how feelings and intellect line up will be featured at these degrees.
Here are the aspects Mercury in Cancer will make:
Jun 6th: trine Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (3 deg)
Jun 7th: sextile Uranus in Taurus (4 deg)
Jun 7th: inconjunct Ceres Rx in Sagittarius (5 deg)
Jun 7th: square Chiron in Aries (5 deg)
Jun 10th: square Pallas in Libra (10 deg)
Jun 15th: conjunct the North Node (17 deg)

Jun 16th: opposite Saturn Rx in Capricorn (18 deg)
Jun 18th: conjunct Mars (21 deg)
Jun 19th: opposite Pluto Rx in Capricorn (22 deg)

May 31st, 2019: The Quiet Commitment

Venus in Taurus trine Saturn Rx in Capricorn (19 deg)
Venus in Taurus sextile Juno in Cancer (20 deg)
Venus/Saturn is the solid commitment to what you want (financially or emotionally). It’s not showy or romantic, but it does confirm something that you have been working on. Your discipline and focus can deliver quiet rewards today, and Venus/Juno adds a bit of encouragement – that emotional relationship agreement can be stabilized.
This is quiet but real. It’s entirely dependent on the work you have put in so far, and the rules/responsibilities you are revisiting. Not so attractive for those who want something tingly, but very nice for those who crave what’s reliable.
May 30th, 2019: Big Words and Hard Commitments

Mercury in Gemini opposite Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (20 deg)
Venus in Taurus trine the South Node in Capricorn (18 deg)
Saturn Rx in Capricorn opposite Juno in Cancer (19 deg)
Mercury/Jupiter
Something will sound really good, but the facts are contrary to hopes/ideals. Any aspect to Jupiter can be positive, and an opposition can sometimes point to an expansive result. Plus, Jupiter is Rx so you’re returning to this issue. But Mercury opposite Jupiter can mean unrealistic promises or difficulty focusing on a specific fact because the conviction that you’re right (no matter what the facts say) pulls you away from the information.
This is the aspect of big talk and massive opinions, but accuracy will be in question.
Venus/South Node
In contrast to the above, this is a quietly reassuring aspect. You can depend on something/someone from the past. Or, a habit/tradition is favourable. Now, this may or may not be the best thing- maybe you’re enabling a not-so-healthy habit or association because it delivers the goods. Consider if the familiarity of this issue is stabilizing or stagnating.
Saturn/Juno
A return to, or emphasis on, rules/commitments will restrict a nurturing agreement. Juno in Cancer is the relationship agreement that values security, but the opposition to Saturn Rx suggests restrictions and a lack of empathy. How rigid are those rules? Are you ready to restrict yourself in favour of someone else’s authority? Parental dynamics are prominent.
In some cases, this aspect can point to the end of agreement or an official separation.
