November 4th, 2019: First Quarter Square And Mars/Lilith Tension

  • First Quarter Square between the Aquarius Moon and Scorpio Sun (11°)

  • Mars in Libra inconjunct Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (20°)

The 1st Quarter Square triggers a crisis between immersion versus detachment. Something that’s been absorbing you requires a different perspective. There may be a surprise or abrupt shock of clarity that pulls you back. This will feel uncomfortable, but the correct action is to step away. Perhaps you need to become more independent or detach yourself from the situation altogether. 

Mars/BML indicates a disconnect between socially acceptable actions versus taboo female sexuality. Since Mars also describes male energy, there is a disconnect between male and female. Rather than outright hostility, there will be misunderstandings. Surface actions will be out of step with the undefined yet powerful undercurrent of the female outsider: the other woman, the witch, the woman whose sexuality does not fit neatly into any category. 

Consider if your attempts to act fairly are denying something more powerful. Or, perhaps someone else’s efforts are glossing over your truths. At the same time, certain compromises must be made.

Sun/NN encourages you to follow the path of least resistance. Scorpio issues of depth, transformation, intimacy or complete commitment to an issue will effortlessly align you with your path forward. This is symbolized by the Cancer North Node, a new area of emotional fulfillment. Allow yourself to flow with your feelings or instincts-there will be a strong current that pulls you in a direction that feels right.

Mercury is intellect and communication, and when it unites with Pallas (strategy) you can access secret or obscured/taboo patterns. You can put unspoken strategies into words or investigate an approach to problem solving the that calls for instinct and intellect.

Sun/Uranus continues the influence of yesterday’s New Moon. There is a contradictory surge of liberation in Fixed signs that strive to maintain control. There may be illumination from the depths (Scorpio) that highlights an abrupt upgrade to habits, finances or values. At the same time, the upgrade may encourage you to break away from secrets, taboos or unhealthy merging. The tension between change and preservation can make this energy feel even more radical than usual as it triggers anxieties about loss of control or the sudden reveal of what’s been hidden.

Mars/Neptune can make relationship efforts very tricky. You may want to initiate an exchange while dealing with the urge to give up or give in. The results can be misguided or severely unbalanced efforts. Some action is necessary but you have to proceed very carefully. Pay attention to unspoken beliefs, anxieties or fantasies that can throw you off course. The Sun enters Scorpio on October 23rd at 3:29 PM EDT. Scorpio season is the time of depth, intensity, secrets, shadows and hidden resources. It’s when we are encouraged to look inwards for true power or do some soul-searching. 

What Scorpio obscures in the shadows is often ugly and frightening. There are very few people with the courage and authenticity to dive into these issues and confront their own fears and taboos. 

There can be rewards during this season, but they are not the typical rewards. If you’re prepared to dig into what’s hidden, you can uncover unexpected sources of power, intimacy, commitment or healing. But that means you must commit to going all the way and not shrink back when you come across something disagreeable. Again, what you’re most often confronting are your own issues: shadow work. 

This season starts off with a supportive Waning Sextile from the Virgo Moon (to the Scorpio Sun) at 0° on October 23rd. Here is some gentle support as you descend into the underworld. The Waning Sextile encourages forward movement (by leaving the past behind). Virgo presents practical solutions and reassuring information-you’ll know what you have to do and what your next step is. You won’t be facing the Scorpio mysteries without a map.
