  • Mercury in Sagittarius trine Uranus Rx in Aries (28 deg)

  • Venus in Scorpio trine the Cancer North Node (26 deg)

  • Sun in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces (14 deg)

Mercury/Uranus

Mercury’s freedom-inducing trine to Uranus is a final burst before it enters restrictive Capricorn later today. Uranus amplifies Mercury in Sag’s view of possibilities (and bluntness) by adding innovation and a touch of controversy. Excellent for leaps of logic and radical honesty, which you can then focus once Mercury enters Capricorn.

Uranus is Rx – are you returning to a past issue of liberation or creativity? Does something need to be expressed? Perhaps now is the time to put it into words.

Note that this trine can help you look beyond yesterday’s hurtful Mercury/Chiron square – no matter what went down, there are always new and better options ahead.

Venus/North Node

Venus in Scorpio trine the North Node is part of an ongoing Grand Water Trine that I discussed in this week’s horoscopes:

January 1st to 5th features yet another Grand Water Trine involving Chiron in Pisces and the Cancer North Node. It was activated from November 6th to 8th (by Jupiter in Scorpio) and on November 20th (by the Sun in Scorpio). Now Venus in Scorpio reactivates the potential to address weaknesses and vulnerabilities (Chiron) while moving forward into new emotional territory (North Node). Venus is about relationships, values, finances and self-esteem, so these areas can flow nicely. The North Node will be key – step into a new area that demands emotional honesty and vulnerability.”

Venus in Scorpio is about the deepest possible commitment to what you want or who you love (including yourself). This will involve an uncomfortable amount of honesty, but the rewards will include forward movement (North Node) to a place where your needs are honoured. This is about tuning into what you want and need, and the flow of the trine ensures that this will happen naturally. Meaning, if it doesn’t feel right and move forward without effort, it’s not meant to be.

Sun/Neptune

This influence will be fairly quiet – Neptune will whisper that there are other possibilities beyond current rules and status. Sun in Capricorn can (if you’re aware – this influence will be easy to ignore) gently add warmth to a dream or a belief and allow you to make it real. Nothing dramatic mind you (sorry, no lottery wins).

Overall, I’d say this is a day for being honest with yourself, on an intellectual and emotional level. The trines will make it easy – all you have to do is go with it.

January 3rd, 2019: Hurtful Words

  • Mercury in Sagittarius square Chiron in Pisces (28 deg)

Mercury in Sag can indicate big, hopeful thoughts/words. But the square to Wounded Healer Chiron suggests these hopes will be undermined by a wound (vulnerabilities, an area of weakness). Sometimes Sagittarius’ focus on the future means no attention to immediate details, so this influence can also point to words that are inappropriate or hurtful, simply because a key issue was ignored.

Either way, be prepared for bumpy conversations or doubts about future possibilities. Nothing may seem like a good idea, and nothing may sound correct or empathetic. Don’t ignore the sore spot that’s being triggered – there’s wisdom in what hurts or what raises doubts. Slow down and consider all the angles, but don’t lose sight of what’s on the horizon.

January 2nd, 2019: Sun Conjunct Saturn

  • Sun conjunct Saturn in Capricorn (11 deg)

The Sun spotlights a responsibility or issue of control. A boundary may be illuminated or an area of authority could be energized. You could feel this as an early echo of the January 5th eclipse.

When the Sun unites with Saturn, purpose is rooted in focus and definition- there is a firm line between what’s allowed and what isn’t. This can be an empowering influence if extra burdens are shouldered, but attempts to avoid responsibility will result in feeling trapped. Saturn encourages you to make friends with restrictions (because you have no choice).

As 2019 begins, consider what you must do, where you must go and where you cannot go. This is a new beginning and it will involve a firm commitment.

Sun/Saturn is also an excellent manifestation influence – make it real.

  • Waning Sextile between the Scorpio Moon and Capricorn Sun (10 deg)

  • Pluto in Capricorn trine Juno in Taurus (20 deg)

Building up to the January 5th New Moon Capricorn eclipse, the Waning Sextile enables the refinement of emerging structures via a peek at what’s going on beneath. Scorpio hints at more below the surface – secrets and emotional intensity. What’s deeper can blend easily with the rules, so you can add form to intensity and depth to what you’re defining. In other words, what’s manifesting won’t be uncontrolled obsession/wallowing but it won’t be a rigid, emotionless cage either.

Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) makes a supportive trine to Juno, suggesting that the above will involve the empowering transformation of a fixed relationship agreement.

We’ve seen this trine before, on December 23rd (when Juno was Rx) so this is the completion of a process that’s been going on for awhile. The slow, steady evolution of a commitment has led you to this moment – how do your rules and boundaries look now?

December 29th, 2018: Painful Issues

  • Third Quarter Square between the Libra Moon and Capricorn Sun (7 deg)

  • Mars conjunct Chiron in Pisces (28 deg)

A touchy day, as the Third Quarter Square raises questions about existing rules and traditions. Imbalances between you and another or in a home versus work situation will trigger tension between what’s established/proper versus what feels acceptable. Perhaps you’re trying to keep up the facade but on the inside you feel undervalued. Perhaps the friction between being nice versus being successful has brought you to a crisis point. How are your boundaries? It may be time to reconsider who you give access to. Do you feel respected?

Mars/Chiron will add to the tension by triggering a wound. Mars is the activator, so there’s no getting around this – it’s going to be uncomfortable. But a conjunction is also a new beginning, and Mars is Pisces is about actions that trigger release. So this is where you confront the wound and move past it. The issue may not be nicely wrapped up (Chiron’s wounds never vanish) but nonetheless, Mars says that you must keep on keeping on. Acknowledge what hurts, forgive, exhale and step forward.

This conjunction occuring on the same day as the Third Quarter Square means issues of boundaries and imbalances will be painful, but the questions this lunar phase raises must be acknowledged. Now is not the time to avoid or gloss over the awkward stuff.

December 28th, 2018: The Whole Relationship

Thomas Cooper Gotch

Thomas Cooper Gotch

  • Venus in Scorpio opposite Juno in Taurus (20 deg)

  • Venus in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn (20 deg)

  • Pluto in Capricorn square Pallas in Libra (20 deg)

  • Pallas in Libra inconjunct Juno in Taurus (20 deg)

An interesting mix of influences today involving Pluto and Venus.

Venus opposite Juno suggests challenges, projections or endings involving a set relationship agreement (Juno) versus intense expressions of love or desire (Venus). What one partner wants may be at odds with the commitment/agreement. Venus rules Taurus, but in Scorpio her energy pushes past Taurus’ limits and demands more extreme expressions. Money and/or love could be an issue. Perhaps one partner wants something deeper, or is projecting their own secrets/obsessions onto a union.

However, Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) makes a supportive sextile to Venus, and Pluto is just moving away from a trine with Juno. So what’s happening is part of a necessary transformation. A new relationship is emerging and the strength of what’s developing will push both partners to look at what lies beneath their commitment.

Pluto makes a tricky square to Pallas in Venus-ruled Libra, suggesting these changes will challenge superficial (Libra) relationship strategies. There may be a social power struggle: a passive-aggressive battle. Pallas in Libra is about keeping it nice and balanced, at all costs – strategic politeness. While it’s important to not allow things to devolve, simply focusing on keeping it nice will not be enough. This is about keeping it real, and Pallas’ inconjunct to Juno indicates tension between social niceties versus the basics of the agreement.

There are three angles here – the social surface, the deeper undercurrents and the material/physical reality of the commitment. All three make up the complete relationship.
