Venus’ Transit of Taurus, May 15th: What Do You Want?

Jan Jansz van de Velde

Jan Jansz van de Velde

Building on yesterday’s Venus/Mars connection, Venus moves into Taurus which harmonizes with Mars’ same-day ingress into Cancer. While they won’t be making an exact aspect any more, they are still close enough to play nice with each other until May 18th.

Venus is strong in the sign she rules, which means solid, physical evidence of what you want/love. Values, money and relationships are expressed through subjective survival instincts and a “what’s in it for me?” approach. This transit can help you determine what has genuine value and how you can treat yourself on a tangible level. Selfish can be good when you look out for yourself and tune into what /who really makes you happy and secure. “Secure” is the key word – Venus in Taurus has no time for anything that’s unsafe or unproven. And, it must have growth potential – this is a fertile sign.

The “not quite” sextile to Mars in Cancer suggests that nurturing actions will enable personal growth, necessary indulgence and a recognition of what you really want. Venus in Taurus is one of the most sensual tranists, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Focus on what feels/smells/tastes good without questioning it. If you like it and no one else does, who cares? This transit is about what makes you happy on a tangible level. Can you get more of it? Even better.

Having said this, Venus’ conjunction with Uranus will have some surprises – more on that in the daily post or you can read my Patreon post about this yearly conjunction.

Mars’ Transit of Cancer, May 15th: It’s Personal

Mars into Cancer coincides with Venus’ Taurus ingress, continuing the (separating) sextile between them. Mars in Cancer is nurturing, moody, protective actions with a domestic edge – family first, even if you’re not fully aware of how family motivates you. As Mars continues to harmonize with Venus (until May 18th) nurturing actions can net you solid evidence (Taurus) of what you want.

Mars in Cancer acts instinctively – emotion trumps logic and motivations are passionate and somewhat childlike. Cancer takes everything personally, so this transit can be quite volatile. If someone loses their temper you can bet it’s because they feel they’ve been attacked on a personal level.

Anger, arousal or initiative are based on primary needs, or the fear that those needs are being denied. Never forget that Cancer is a Cardinal sign, so there can be outbursts of anger or strength when you least expect it. There can also be assertiveness based on the need to remain safe. This is the grip that tightens when you try to pull away – the ferocious hug or the aggressive mother/child.

During this transit, consider the most personal trigger for your motivations. It’s ok if you act on something because of how it makes you feel (comfortable or uncomfortable). You don’t need to explain this to anyone, but self-awareness is helpful (so you don’t become the rampaging child).

Here are the aspects Mars in Cancer will make:

  • May 18th: trine Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (1 deg)

  • May 22nd: sextile Uranus in Taurus (4 deg)

  • May 23rd: square Chiron in Aries (5 deg)

  • May 27th: inconjunct Ceres in Sagittarius (7 deg)

  • Jun 1st: square Pallas in Libra (10 deg)

  • Jun 12th: conjunct North Node (17 deg)

  • Jun 14th: trine Neptune in Pisces (18 deg)

  • Jun 14th: opposite Saturn Rx in Capricorn (18 deg)

  • Jun 14th: inconjunct Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (18 deg)

  • Jun 18th: conjunct Mercury (21 deg)

  • Jun 19th: opposite Pluto Rx in Capricorn (22 deg)

  • Jul 1st: Leo ingress

Mercury’s Transit of Taurus (And A Voice for Lilith)

Mercury enters Taurus on May 6th at 2:25 pm EDT. Information and communication is focused on what’s real and immediate. Solid, simple ideas have value – proof is essential. Values are put into words. Don’t waste your time with complicated decisions. Keep it straightforward and start with the basics – you can build from there.

Usually this transit would indicate a slower-moving flow of information that becomes fixed. But Mercury’s upcoming conjunction to Uranus ensures that will not happen. What you planned may be turned on its head.

Mercury in Taurus’ first aspect (also on May 6th) is a sextile to Black Moon Lilith in Pisces. Newly emerging, taboo issues of female power, emancipation, victimization or sexuality are gently grounded with a few words of introduction. Lilith is a given a voice that draws attention to her, and it’s quiet (at first). But sometimes you don’t need to shout to be heard. Keep in this in mind if you want to speak about something that’s normally uncomfortable or unusual. This is one or two phrases spoken calmly, with impact.

Here are the aspects Mercury in Taurus will make:

  • May 6th: sextile Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (0 deg)

  • May 8th: conjunct Uranus (3 deg)

  • May 12th: sextile Juno in Cancer (10 deg)

  • May 12th: inconjunct Ceres Rx in Sagittarius (10 deg)

  • May 12th: inconjunct Pallas Rx in Libra (11 deg)

  • May 15th: sextile Neptune in Pisces (18 deg)

  • May 16th: trine the Capricorn South Node (19 deg)

  • May 16th: trine Saturn Rx in Capricorn (20 deg)

  • May 17th: inconjunct Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (22 deg)

  • May 18th: trine Pluto Rx in Capricorn (23 deg)

  • May 21st: Gemini ingress

Black Moon Lilith’s Transit of Pisces

Photo by Engin Akyurt from Pexels

Photo by Engin Akyurt from Pexels

Black Moon Lilith enters Pisces. The dark woman becomes even more difficult to pin down in this watery, transcendent sign.

For those of you not familiar with BML, she is named after Adam’s first wife who was exiled from the Garden because she refused to submit to him. She is female, sexual energy that is taboo and rebellious – she is the outsider, the prostitute, the witch, the demon and the other woman. She reminds us that there is a price for stepping outside the lines – she’s powerful but exiled.

While she’s in Pisces, watch for tricky situations where the lines are blurred. She carries the rage of being rejected, but nothing is overt in Pisces. So you may be encouraged to deceptively take revenge or become embroiled in a situation that undermines you. Lilith in Pisces can become immersed in the illusion – the addiction to what’s unavailable, the use of sexual energy that seems empowering but is actually diminishing. She can become the victim.

Yes, she’s about female empowerment. But she has a dark side and to deny this is to ignore who she really is. If you deny her anger and desire for vengeance, you make yourself vulnerable to her distorted energy. This can be just as destructive as using her rage to hurt others. Like a wild animal, she should always be treated with cautious respect – you can’t domesticate her.

The highest expression of BML in Pisces would be to transcend the anger and forget about those who don’t accept you. Tap into this sign’s limitlessness and consider how Lilith’s positive energy (her independence, her symbolism of all that’s socially unacceptable but crucial) can be expanded in positive ways. Rise above the rules, forgive those who have wronged you and forgive yourself if you’re hanging onto feelings of guilt or failure for not conforming to the stereotypes of wife/mother/good girl.

This transit can also be excellent for getting to know her better, if you want – she’s moving through the Pisces area of your chart where there are no boundaries. All you have to do is let her in.

Black Moon Lilith will exit Pisces for Aries on Jan 27th, 2020.

Venus’ Transit of Aries

Venus enters Aries on April 20th at 12:10 pm EDT. Relationships, money and self-esteem enter assertive new territory in this Mars-ruled sign. Venus in Aries is about attracting new opportunities or expressing your values in bold new ways. The energy is passionate and impulsive but necessarily long-lasting. At this point you’re going where instinct leads you: anything could happen. What is crucial is honesty – this transit can push you to acknowledge what you really want and if you’re ready to break away from whatever’s been restricting you.

This blends well with the Sun’s entrance into Venus-ruled Taurus, earlier in the day. Noting that the Sun is approaching Uranus in Taurus, these two planetary ingresses mark a definite shift in what you want, how you attract it and how you express your self-worth. Aries is competitive, and while Venus may express this indirectly, rest assured that this will be a factor in moving towards what you want. Competition may be attractive or you may be pushed to assert your values in new and uncomfortable ways by taking charge of what you want.

Again, this is all part of breaking free – say goodbye to complacency, stagnation and passivity.

Here are the aspects Venus in Aries will make:

  • Apr 23rd: conjunct Chiron (2 deg)

  • Apr 30th: trine Ceres Rx in Sagittarius (12 deg)

  • May 1st: conjunct Vesta (12 deg)

  • May 1st: opposite Pallas Rx in Libra (13 deg)

  • May 6th: square the Nodes (19 deg)

  • May 7th: square Saturn Rx in Capricorn (20 deg)

  • May 9th: trine Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (23 deg)

  • May 9th: square Pluto Rx in Capricorn (23 deg)

  • May 14th: sextile Mars in Gemini (29 deg)

  • May 15th: Taurus ingress

Taurus Season: New Growth

Photo by  Kaboompics .com  from  Pexels

The Sun enters Taurus on April 20th at 4:55 am EDT. This is the season of resources and grounding, with a focus on growing what’s been planted. It means making the most of what you have. Security comes from solidifying what works for you and understanding the true value of your resources and yourself.

Taurus is a Fixed Earth sign that is concerned with growth, abundance, fertility and all things that you can see and touch. If there’s no physical evidence it’s not real.

Having said all this, the Sun will conjoin Uranus in Taurus. This could illuminate a specific situation that is ready to be disrupted, or a moment when you realize that growth occurs in fresh soil. The field you’re working is no longer sustaining you. The old values are stale – abundance lies ahead, in new territory.

This post outlines what Uranus’s transit of Taurus means. Despite this sign’s fixed habits and dependence on security, Uranus says it’s time for something to be updated. The downside of Taurus’ fixed nature is stagnation that denies growth. Uranus (which is about the future) is here to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Wondering how Uranus’ transit of Taurus might impact you? I’ve written an eBook about it, based on your house positions (you need to know your birth time so you can figure out which description in the book applies to you).

Here are the aspects the Sun in Taurus will make:

  • Apr 22nd: Sun conjunct Uranus (2 deg)

  • May 2nd: inconjunct Ceres Rx in Sagittarius (12 deg)

  • May 3rd: inconjunct Pallas Rx in Libra (13 deg)

  • May 4th: New Moon (14 deg Taurus)

  • May 8th: Sun sextile Neptune in Pisces (18 deg)

  • May 10th: Sun trine the Capricorn South Node (19 deg)

  • May 11th: Sun trine Saturn Rx in Capricorn (20 deg)

  • May 13th: Sun inconjunct Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (22 deg)

  • May 13th: Sun trine Pluto Rx in Capricorn (23 deg)

  • May 18th: Full Moon (27 deg Scorpio)

  • May 21st: Gemini ingress
