Venus’ Transit of Aquarius

Venus enters Aquarius on December 20th at 1:41 AM EST. Matters pertaining to relationships, money, values and self-esteem will be filtered through this detached Air sign. That means a fresh approach to all Venus matters, as some detachment is necessary in order to break away from what’s outdated. This is the sign of liberation and updates (the future) so expect some odd but refreshing manifestations. This is also the sign of friendship (as opposed to partnerships) so relationships in general will have more room to maneuver.

Venus in Aquarius is about the beauty of what’s eccentric – the detachment of the outsider may be forced or voluntary, but this is the transit that allows you to explore what’s appealing about differences. Break with tradition and experiment, while considering what impact your role in society has on your self-esteem. Even if you refuse to run with the crowd and steadfastly maintain an anti “whatever” stance, this still describes your relationship to the collective (your role as a rebel, disgruntled hermit or sparkling alien – all manifestations of Venus in Aquarius).

Independence is valued as are friendly social connections – keep it light and non-judgemental. The only thing that is really committed to is your own path or a meaningful friendship; Venus in Aquarius can and does commit, but only on her terms.

Venus will exit Aquarius for Pisces on January 13th.

Here are the aspects Venus will make:

December 19th, 2019: Mercury Square Neptune, Mars Sextile Saturn

  • Mercury in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces (16 deg)

  • Mars in Scorpio sextile Saturn in Capricorn (19 deg)

Mercury square Neptune is a crisis between the story/sales pitch versus the illusion or belief. Neptune blurs the facts and creates disbelief, so the story is exaggerated and suspect. This aspect can be about outright lies or seeing something that is not real (the illusion).

If you find yourself questioning a “truth,” keep asking – the initial words have been distorted. If what you see looks grand and expansive, treat it as a nice picture but don’t rely on it.

Fortunately, Mars/Saturn adds a bit of reality to help with the above. Intensive, authentic actions (Mars) will be grounded and focused by the rules. Slow, determined effort can take you in the right direction, even if you’re questioning what direction that is. It will be better to rely on actions than intellect- stick with what you can physically take stock of rather than unproven words. Silent, purposeful work will take you further than pretty declarations.

Mars in Scorpio is deep motivation – tapping into the unconscious and making it visible. Saturn makes it real while restraining all-or-nothing impulses. This is sober, serious energy that asks you to push things just a bit further while applying discipline and total commitment.

Note the contrast in the energies – Mercury/Neptune is external and expansive while Mars in Scorpio contracts and is internal. Actions penetrate through the levels until you hit hidden reservoirs of strength/resources/authenticity. Mercury/Neptune may be distracting, but Mars will show you the truth. Rely on your physical senses, no matter what you hear or see.

December 18th, 2019: The Troublesome Questions

  • Third Quarter Square between the Virgo Moon and Sagittarius Sun (26 deg)

  • Mercury in Sagittarius sextile Juno in Libra (14 deg)

The Last Quarter Square raises questions via troublesome details and corrections in a story, promise or ideal. The vision of what might be is enthusiastic and grand, but the little facts that don’t quite add up need to be examined. The questions are a buzzkill, but ignoring them will leave you feeling restless and unsatisfied.

Mercury (ruler of Virgo) can offer some help with a harmonious connection to Juno (partnership agreements). Remain open-minded about compromises and assume that the other person wants a fair resolution just as much as you do.

December 17th, 2019: Sun Square Black Moon Lilith

  • Sun in Sagittarius square Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (25 deg)

A square between Sag and Pisces is a crisis of belief. Sag is man-made beliefs (religion, law) and Pisces is spirituality and magic that transcends the world of man. When the square involves the Sun and BML, the light of knowledge attempts to illuminate Lilith’s subversive energies.

But this also illuminates the tension between what is deemed right, ethical and wise versus what is taboo: BML is the outsider, the prostitute, witch, other woman or any woman who does not conform to “acceptable” sexual standards. Perhaps in this context, she is breaking some laws , religious strictures or challenging what others have learned.

This crisis will raise questions about beliefs and knowledge – what is truly “wise” and what is an accurate reflection of faith.  Is the outsider being prosecuted for her practices? Do sexual taboos initiate change? The square is always an active aspect – questions fuel progress.

  • Venus in Capricorn sextile Black Moon Lilith in Pisces (25 deg)

Traditional expressions of female energy (Venus in Capricorn) can be integrated with subversive expressions of taboo female energy (Black Moon Lilith). A previously undefined sexual urge or desire to drift outside the lines can work more effectively within a certain structure. This could be about combining two sides of yourself or learning to accept someone who is an outsider or target of judgements.

BML adds another dimension to Venus’ restrained values, and Venus’ boundaries can increase BML’s power (sometimes BML in Pisces can undermine herself as she drifts into victim scenarios).

December 15th, 2019: Jupiter Trine Uranus (A Solid Opportunity)

  • Jupiter in Capricorn trine Uranus RX in Taurus (2 deg)

Here we have a balanced blend of innovation and realism. Any combo of Jupiter (expansion, optimism) and Uranus (surprise, liberation) can bring a sudden flash of luck. But when this energy is grounded in the Earth signs you have a valuable opportunity to move in a favourable direction while building something that lasts. This is the promise that’s backed up by physical proof.

The trine delivers energy that runs along a path of least resistance, so this opportunity may slide into your life naturally. It may seem a bit unusual but very promising-don’t ignore it! You can safely step outside your comfort zone by expanding structures/traditions/authority (Capricorn) and tapping into the updates that are happening with your finances,, values or security (Taurus).

Especially good for business matters, construction or physical health.

December 14th, 2019: The Cancer Moon

  • Cancer Moon opposite Saturn in Capricorn (19 deg)

  • Cancer Moon opposite Pluto in Capricorn (21 deg)

  • Waning Inconjunct between the Cancer Moon and Sagittarius Sun (22 deg)

  • Cancer Moon opposite Venus in Capricorn (23 deg)

  • Moon Void of Course in Cancer at 10:56 AM EST

  • Moon enters Leo at 10:55 PM EST

The sensitive Cancer Moon is hit with some difficult oppositions as Saturn suggests an impassable wall or ending, and Pluto indicates forced transformation. The vibe is heavy, with unavoidable challenges that push you to look after your own needs (this is not a warm and nurturing moment). Parental dynamics will be strong, whether you’re recalling unpleasant moments from childhood, dealing with a current tradition or struggling to parent yourself.

The Waning Inconjunct can make honouring those needs awkward but necessary. The sense that you should just “relax” or not take things so personally will be strong, and indeed there will be reason to maintain your perspective. But what you’re feeling on a personal level is valid and cannot be ignored.

The last aspect before the Moon goes VOC is an opposition to Venus: the tension between wants versus needs can make a relationship, financial or self-esteem issue seem impossible. Wants will be intensified along with the rift between between status versus comfort and success versus self-protection. Use the VOC period to contemplate what holds priority in your heart.

As the Moon enters Leo, watch for a welcome shift in the energy as confidence and the urge to make the most of who you are/what you have returns. What’s most important? You are.

December 13th, 2019: Venus Conjunct Pluto, Mars Trine Neptune

Arthur Hacker

Arthur Hacker

  • Venus in Capricorn conjunct Pluto (21°)

  • Mars in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces (15°)

Venus/Pluto is the intensification of defined desires. Pluto adds a “must have” quality to a relationship, financial or self- esteem issue. The intensity of what you want or love will teach you about your personal limits: how far are you willing to go and how much control are you willing to give up? The truth of what you want will be excavated so there’ll be no room for denial. This could be about a total commitment or total ending and transformation (aspects to Pluto often indicate a metaphorical death).

Neptune can enable Mars’ actions as a smooth flow of motivation with zero resistance. It will be easy to dive deeply into something, so this energy can enable healthy and not so healthy actions. Just because an aspect (the trine) is harmonious, doesn’t mean that the outcome is always positive. You really have to look at what you’re doing and why. On the plus side, Neptune can encourage Mars in Scorpio’s deeply compassionate or healing efforts as boundaries are dissolved.

Overall, this is about serious actions (Mars) and attraction (Venus). There’s the potential to go deeper than you ever have, regarding what you want and what you’re prepared to do to get it. As noted, efforts will be easy but that may or may not be a good thing. What you end up with will reveal the true power or transformative potential in a relationship or resource.

December 12th, 2019: Chiron Direct

  • Chiron stations direct in Aries (1 °)

When Chiron stationed RX on July 8th at 5° Aries, it was a process of going back over old wounds and reactivating sore spots. Situations may have reoccurred as a way of testing you-had you really dealt with that vulnerability? Maybe you found yourself fighting the same battle.

Now as Chiron moves forward it will once again activate 1-5° Aries. So even though you’ll be going over the same ground again, there should be a sense of progress and increased courage. Now you know what to expect and you’ve been tested and tempered.

Of course, Chiron will station retrograde again (on July 11, 2020) but it will be permanently done with 1-3° Aries as of March 1, 2020. So if you have anything in the Cardinal signs at these degrees, you can experience some relief-your battle is over (at least when it comes to Chiron in Aries).

As Chiron moves forward, watch for an increase in motivation or a feeling that you’re ready to confront what’s made you vulernable. Chiron is also the teacher, so you can look at these transits as an ongoing lesson. What wisdom have you gained from the review?

December 11th, 2019: Venus Conjunct Saturn

Diego Velázquez

Diego Velázquez

  • Venus in Capricorn conjunct Saturn (19°)

What you want will be defined and limited. There will be rules around money, relationships or how you express self- esteem. These rules will make your responsibilities undeniable; for example, the work that you must do in order to manifest what you want. You may feel pressured, and this will define the absolute reality of what you love and how you love.

If you’re comfortable with reality, this conjunction can herald a solid commitment that makes you happy. This is about the security of knowing exactly where you stand with someone else, with your finances and your values. This can also be about taking control of a relationship or yourself-exercising maturity and authority In order to manifest something good.

But if you’ve been avoiding reality or your responsibilities, this can represent a difficult obstacle that denies you what you want and forces you to restrain your spending/indulgence/expressions of affection.

A conjunction is a new beginning. The last time Venus and Saturn met up was on February 18th, 2019. A situation has come full circle since then. Consider if the rules and limits have changed, or if your approach to them has. If you’ve been trying to build financial, relationship or inner security, this is the time to take stock of how far you’ve come.

In some cases, a situation may mature to the point where it has reached its natural conclusion. Therefore, the new beginning will consist of what lies beyond the finish line.
