August 11th, 2017: Repeated Devotion

  • Mercury conjoins Vesta in Virgo : 11 degrees

Mercury unites with Vesta for a second time (the first conjunction took place on August 2nd). Mercury is slowing down in preparation for its retrograde (on August 12th) where it will back away while Vesta moves forward. Mercury Rx will not conjoin Vesta, however, after the conjunction it will station at almost the same position as Vesta (off by a few minutes). Meaning, before it turns Rx, it will “stop” close to Vesta, which is akin to underlining that one detail.

This is a powerful, repeat focus on a fact, problem or solution. Mercury/Vesta’s first conjunction took place at 7 degrees, so 7 to 11 degrees Virgo is the zone for this. This is happening just before Mercury’s Rx (review) so this is not the final solution. But it is something you need to look at, very closely, in preparation for the upcoming review.

Where does your attention need to be, right now?

Remember that Vesta is about devotion. In Virgo, mundane details and improvements (the little things) are sacred.

August 10th, 2017: Harmony and Tricky Moments

  • Sun in Leo sextile Jupiter in Libra: 18 degrees
  • Mars in Leo inconjunct Neptune in Pisces: 13 degrees
  • Mercury in Virgo sextile Venus in Cancer: 11 degrees
  • Vesta in Virgo trine Pallas in Taurus: 11 degrees

A mostly harmonious day, with a moment that might trip you up.

Sun/Jupiter is bold and optimistic – things will work out because you feel confident, and confidence will be buoyed by the sense that things will work out. Win-win. Good for attracting favourable attention. However, Mars/Neptune is a caution. For the most part, you’ll be on target, but you can stumble (via misguided actions) if you’re not paying attention. What you’ve been ignoring can weaken your efforts.

Mercury/Venus suggests sweet words that are practical and empathetic. For example, the solution that’s presented with sensitivity, or gentle advice. Excellent if you have to point out an error or deliver a critique – you can phrase it so it almost sounds like a compliment.

Meanwhile, Vesta/Pallas is about devotion to a basic solution that can be used easily and immediately. It’s not a quick fix (results will take time) but it should be easy to access and implement. Vesta picks out a specific detail or problem, and Pallas supplies the stable strategy to address it. Healing and improvements will be visible.

Aspects to Virgo help you address the problem, while aspects to Leo reassure you that it can be fixed. Just keep your eyes on Mars/Neptune – don’t ignore the questionable action.

August 2nd, 2017: Mercury Conjunct Vesta In Virgo

  • Mercury conjunct Vesta in Virgo: 7 degrees

Vesta’s ultra-focus combines with Mercury’s communication/information. One topic of conversation/piece of information will be the sacred flame. Maybe you obsess over the little thing they said. Maybe you drill into a research paper/article/book as you dedicate yourself to finding a solution. Perhaps you become obsessed with proving your point.

This energy can be used for good or ill, depending on the focus. The big picture will be impossible to see. The critique may be the only thing you hear. Sometimes this is necessary. Sometimes it’s limiting. Consider what fact you’re devoting yourself to.

Vesta Enters Virgo: Ultra Pure

Fernand Khnopff

Vesta enters Virgo on July 17th. Her extreme focus becomes even more extreme in the sign of details and perfection. Concentration is cranked up until the strings hum with tension.

This transit is about devotion to making it better. “It” will vary, according to the Virgo house(s) in your chart. There may be a specific detail that you become obsessed with. Or, a health issue will demand your attention. Service and mundane tasks can become religious – each small action is part of a ritual. Vesta in Virgo is about finding the sacred in daily life.

This can be a time to explore the deeper connotations of virginity. Virgo the Virgin meets the goddess whose Vestal Virgins tended her temple flame. The original meaning of virgin referred to an unmarried woman: her sexuality did not belong to any man. Taking that a step further with chastity, you keep that energy for yourself because you want to focus it elsewhere. You’re in control, and you decide what you to do with your body, your temple.

The benefits of this transit include absolute purification – fervent deep cleaning on a physical/material level. Also, concentration can be enhanced to ungodly levels. You see the details that no one else sees, and you correct and polish ruthlessly.

Bam.

The downside is probably obvious – crazy fixations on diet, exercise, criticism. It’s not good enough/never good enough, and you can’t see beyond the “flaw” because Vesta has blinded you to the bigger picture. Chastity is distorted into guilt, fear and repression. Sex becomes impure.

Healthy Vesta in Virgo is like exfoliation that reveals glowing skin. Distorted Vesta in Virgo continues to exfoliate until you bleed.

In general, this transit will call your attention to something that can be improved and refined. Make sure you focus on the improvement, not just the flaw.

Vesta will exit Virgo on September 18th, 2017.

Ceres’ Transit of Cancer

Honoré Daumier

Ceres enters Cancer today, and she’s right at home in this sign.

She’s the Great Mother and goddess of the crops. The loss of her daughter (Persephone) to the King of the Underworld (Pluto) resulted in the crops withering until Persephone was allowed to return for part of the year.

Cancer is about sustenance, emotional protection and mother/child.

Ceres’ transit of Cancer could stir up the perfect storm for these issues – your relationship with food, your relationship with Mom, codependence, fear of being abandoned, etc. However, this transit can also favour the birth of a child or your own self-nurturing. Much depends on what’s churned up from the past, and your current experience of getting your needs met.

Ceres is as much about loss as she is about nurturing and feeding. On the same day as she enters Cancer, the Cancer Sun will make an exact opposition to Pluto Rx in Capricorn (18 degrees). Not only does this recall the the recent Capricorn Full Moon, it weaves Pluto’s undercurrent of death into her transit. Don’t be scared – Pluto’s “death” is often metaphorical and necessary. The absolute ending. And Ceres into Cancer is a brand new beginning, which can only happen after an absolute ending/transformation.

Of particular note will be Ceres’ opposition to Pluto (17 degrees) on August 21st, 2017.

This transit could confront you with a loss, in the present or from the deep past. But there’s also potential to build a powerful bond between yourself and another. The relationship between you and your Mom or child could be permanently transformed. Or, you could decide that it’s time to get serious about looking after yourself.

Ceres will exit Cancer on September 24th, 2017.
