Are some relationships inevitable? Astrology can certainly indicate the potential arrival of a long-term union versus a fling, flirt or fantasy. But what about actually crossing paths with your promised love interest? Most reputable astrologers will not offer guarantees, even if they see multiple influences impacting your love life. This brings up the issue of predestination versus free will, and if a relationship that was “meant to be” can actually pass you by.
Tomorrow’s Forecast
Astrology is not a crystal ball, but it is similar to a weather forecast. It can help you pinpoint upcoming trends (stormy, sunny or mixed sun and clouds) so you can prepare yourself. Certain trends will indicate if the time is ripe to connect with a potential partner. For example, transits from Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto through your 7th House (of partnerships) are often associated with a new relationship. Nothing happens unless a section of your chart is activated. Outer planet transits of your 7th House indicate that the weather is active in your partnership sector. There can be similar effects if an outer planet aspects your Venus, the ruler of your 7th House, or your Sun, Moon or Mars. Sometimes transiting Venus Rx, or an eclipse (combined with a transit) will do the trick. The Progressed Moon (your evolving needs) moving through your 7th House can also indicate a new relationship. As the Progressed Moon moves through each house, your evolving potential is focused on that area. In the 7th House, it’s time for partnerships to be explored.
Let’s say you look at your chart and tomorrow’s forecast (or next year’s forecast) indicates active weather with one or more of the above influences. If you remain locked in your house for the duration, it’s entirely possible to miss out on what’s happening. Even if you’re out and about but decide there’s no way anyone will find you attractive, you can experience nothing and no one. Then again, maybe you’re being hit by 7th House progressions and transits to your Venus, but you simply want to be alone. Maybe transiting Saturn is moving through your 12th House, and you just came out of a horrendous divorce. All you want to do is curl up and heal. There’s a focus on partnerships in your chart, but you’re not ready to get involved again. You always have free will, and you can choose to be alone if really want to. Transits and progressions do not indicate that something must happen; they indicate what it’s going to be like outside. How you dress for the weather is your choice.
This doesn’t work the same way if you’re trying to maintain a connection with a partner who’s ready to leave, or establish a connection with someone who’s not interested. For example, transiting Neptune through the 7th House can manifest as relationships (or romantic fantasies) that appear and then dissolve. It’s much easier to keep people and experiences out of your life, than it is to keep them in. Free will has its limits, and those limits begin and end with you.
The Karma Question
Then there’s the issue of past-life relationships. If a connection is meant to re-occur in this life, won’t it just happen, no matter what? For example, there’s unfinished business with a past life partner that involves your responsibility to him. In a previous life, you were supposed to look after him. Pick any context: maybe he was your son, your sick husband, or a wounded soldier that you were caring for. But you abandoned him. Your leftover obligation brings you together in this life. Transiting Saturn (the planet of responsibility) moves over your South Node, and your South Node is in your 7th House. Are you ready to take responsibility? Let’s say the answer is “No.” You’re about to lose your job, you’re sick, and your basement just flooded. You’re in no mood for extra responsibilities. You cross paths with Steve (maybe he’s a friend of a friend) and you feel … something. There’s a sense of familiarity. But you’re so frazzled by the rest of your life that you don’t give him a second thought. And that’s the end of it.
You’re simply not ready to re-open that relationship. This may or may not be a good thing. Maybe you need to confront your obligations. Maybe everything is falling down around your ears because you’re not taking responsibility for your work, your health, or your home repairs. You’re a serial escape artist, and now is the time for you to get real. A relationship with Steve would have been your wake-up call. Then again, maybe you’ve been working your ass off trying to keep everything together, but transiting Pluto is rocking your 4th House (your roots) and excavating some major life changes. That’s the priority right now. When a past-life connection re-enters your life, it’s not always the best time to deal with it.
In the end, it’s up to you. You have more control over who comes into your life than you think, to the extent that even karmic connections can be sidetracked. This doesn’t mean that you should panic because right this minute you’re missing out on the love of your life. While it may be easy to keep people out, it’s just as easy to let people in. You simply have to be ready. The way to get ready is to work your chart. Know your issues, work with the potential indicated in your chart, and keep moving forward. If you want to meet someone and transits/progressions are activating your hot spots (but nothing is happening) consider if you’re dressed appropriately for the weather.
