With the Sun now in Aries, it’s officially Spring in the Northern Hemisphere (although the weather in many parts would still have you think otherwise). People are now getting ready to drop everything and go chasing off after new romance, as if we were all salmon responding to the urge to swim upstream at a specific time of year. A quick glance at human behavior will show you that people will mate at any time of the year, but this year there may be a little more truth to that “spring fever” idea than usual: a Venus-Mars trine just in time for the weekend will be increasing the urge to merge for many.
Unlike spawning salmon, though, we have at least a little better chance to use foresight to plan our actions, and that’s advisable. Mercury forms a couple of crucial aspects this week, and your best move would be to do a little rational plotting and scheming as to what you want (and how to get it) before you charge off for Mating Season. Throughout the week, Mercury is trine to Jupiter early on (peaking on Tuesday), which will give your words and thoughts not only a touch of that “big picture” quality but will also help you fit your ideas into a larger context: it’s all fine and well to write that love letter, but what do you do after you get the girl/guy? On Thursday/Friday, Mercury sextile Pluto adds an extra edge to your thoughts. Think of it as a scalpel: Properly wielded, it can uncover the real issues and carefully extract whatever it is in your personal life that’s causing the trouble. Start waving it around based just on your impulses though, and you’ll only make things worse.
Then on Saturday — just in time for Date Night! — Venus trine Mars amplifies everyone’s urge to bust loose, socialize, and “get it on.” Knowing this, you can plan ahead for maximum romantic effect on the weekend, and a little planning ahead is a good idea, because there’s a plot complication in this week’s love story: Venus square Saturn is also in effect Saturday. The sex drive (Mars) may be pumped up, but the affection and understanding part of the equation may be frustratingly impaired.
Sunday ends the week with a beginning: the New Moon in Aries. This is a particularly energetic Moon, being conjunct Uranus and square Jupiter and Pluto. You can treat this as an opportunity to clarify your life goals and begin to marshal the resources needed to make some important changes in your life… or you could just treat it as the opening shot of next month’s Grand Cross in the Cardinal Signs. Think clearly (use that Mercury!) as to which of those two outcomes you prefer.
