Love Horoscope for the Week of December 23

weeklyloveAll commercialism and hype aside — Happy Holidays to all of you!

Sorry if that came across as a little obligatory. We’re all sick and tired of the media bombardment to fulfill our societal duty as consumers that comes with The Christmas Season… almost as sick as we are of the constant re-telling of Scrooge’s story. The way to regulate which of these traits come out of us — the kind or the cranky — is through our minds, and that’s where Mercury and Uranus come in. For many of us, this particular time of the year comes with an emphasis on the emotions: an urge to be of good cheer, to love our fellow humans, and to be kind to one another. Those are all good things of course, and far be it from me to dissuade you from such things. But you might want to consider getting a bit of a grip on yourself, and Mercury and Uranus can help. Both planets are major players this week.

Mercury is the Thinking Planet, and this week it enters Capricorn — a Sign which demands solidity and practicality. Between now and January 11th, the planetary energies are on your side if you need to do some hard thinking about your life, what you want out of it, and how to get it. We’re approaching “New Year’s Resolution” time, and putting some brainpower into how you’ll achieve those goals now can help you avoid the usual Resolution Fail that usually kicks in by mid-February at the latest.

Uranus went direct last week, and (being such a slow planet) can still be considered to be stationary. A stationary planet is a powerful one, and Uranus is The Original Thinker of the Zodiac. Breaking chains is what Uranus thrives on. Combine this quality with Mercury’s intellect, and you have the potential to make Common Sense overcome the more volatile portions of the human condition.

On Christmas Day, the big news is Mars opposite Uranus, and then Moon conjunct Mars opposite Uranus. If you find yourself at a traditional gathering of friends and family, do your best to resist the urge to pick a fight with Uncle Fred. You know who I’m talking about: every gathering of that sort has an Uncle Fred, ready to brawl with someone over politics or religion or which team is more deserving of the championship or why The President is a saint/imposter/avatar of Vishnu/jerk. Keep calm and try to play into the Moon in Libra spirit of everyone getting along. Mercury is trine Neptune the following day, so worst case scenario: you’ll be able to find the charm and grace to phrase your apology sweetly. And above all else on Wednesday? Don’t be Uncle Fred!

On Sunday, Mercury and Uranus are square each other. That may not sound terribly cooperative or constructive, but new solutions to old problems often arise out of tension, and this combination can help you find your way out of the traps that life (and you, yourself) have presented you with.

Finally: do you find yourself in the classic bind of having to do some last-minute holiday shopping? We at Sasstrology would like to kindly suggest that you get those loved ones on your list a reading from an astrologer. You can order it from the comfort of your home, it’s personalized and caring, and it provides the kind of guidance and insight that you just can’t get from a sweater or a kitchen appliance.

Wait, was that commercialism?
