Yeah, yeah, I know you want to lose weight and make more money and see your friends more often. But if you’re reading this blog, you want a more satisfying romantic life as well. Nearly everyone has a dysfunctional pattern (or two) that sabotages relationship success.

If astrology teaches us anything, it’s that no two years (let alone days) are the same. So let’s take a quick look at what love planet Venus has in store for us in 2011. By studying her patterns, you’ll know the best times to move forward in your love life and tackle your relationship resolutions.
Unlike in 2010 when Venus had a long-ass four-month stay in Scorpio due to its retrograde cycle, in 2011 the love planet makes a straight shoot through the entire zodiac, and hits some of the later signs twice in the same year:
Venus in Scorpio (as of this writing) Venus enters Sagittarius January 7 Venus enters Capricorn February 4 Venus enters Aquarius March 1 Venus enters Pisces March 27 Venus enters Aries April 20 Venus enters Taurus May 15 Venus enters Gemini June 9 Venus enters Cancer July 3 Venus enters Leo July 28 Venus enters Virgo August 21 Venus enters Libra September 14 Venus enters Scorpio October 9 Venus enters Sagittarius November 2 Venus enters Capricorn November 26 Venus enters Aquarius December 20
I obviously cannot do individual readings here, so to simplify: When Venus is moving through your Sun, Moon or Rising sign, you can expect gifts, greater pleasure, and increased affection in your life. And the big caveat: any factors in your natal chart can obviously temper this effect (for example, if Saturn squares your Moon).
That being said, if want to make any significant changes in your love life in the coming year, take advantage of one of these time periods, because the goddess wants to support your goals when she is touching one of the key points in your chart.
Changes in Venus’ Mood
We can look at Venus’ conjunctions with the outermost planets to get a sense of how her mood will shift over the coming year. (“In effect” below means that Venus’s aspect to the other planet is in orb. I am using ten degree orbs, which means ten degrees applying to the planet and ten degrees separating from the planet.)
Venus conjunct Pluto
Exact on February 9, in effect from February 1 to February 18
Pluto intensifies and deepens Venus, adding a compulsive element to our sexual and romantic lives, as well as dredging up issues that we’ve relegated to the shadows. This is a good time to excavate the crap from previous relationships and expose it to the light of day, which believe-it-or-not can be a healing experience.
Venus conjunct Neptune
Exact on March 26, in effect from March 18 to April 4
Venus’ connection with Neptune results in a loss of boundaries, poor judgment, self-sacrifice and delusion. When we meet someone new during this period, we usually see what we want to see, not who they really are. The upside of this aspect is the bliss that one experiences when two people dissolve into One.
Venus conjunct Uranus
Exact on April 23, in effect from April 15 to May 1
Now is the time for experimentation, for flouting the “relationship rules” dictated by the mainstream. We want to experience independence within our relationships, and can easily feel smothered with too much closeness. This is a good aspect for shaking things up in staid partnerships, but there is always a risk that a relationship can end with this much instability.
Venus conjunct Saturn
Exact on September 29, in effect from September 22 to October 7
Affection is expressed in a tight-fisted manner when the love planet connects with stern Saturn. We feel less loved, less able to give affection. The upside is that this is a good time to cement a relationship, to formalize a commitment. Typically, this aspect either further consolidates a partnership or nips it in the bud.
Venus conjunct Pluto
Exact on December 1, in effect from November 23 to December 9
