Full Saturn 2013

saturn

When the Moon is in opposition to the Sun we call it full. Likewise, when a visible planet opposes the Sun, it too could be described as “full.” On the evening of April 28, 2013 earth dwellers got their best peek at the cold mother that is Saturn, when the planet was full in the night sky.

Saturn is ascribed a masculine energy, which seems appropriate. However, the archetype I envision for the planet is not a he, but a she. She’s an exacting, unfeeling, uber-rational task master, who somehow manages elegance (neatness, anyway) while she’s dismantling your slipshod life. Saturn’s influence isn’t explosive. It’s quiet, firm, and unrelenting – particularly now as it retrogrades.

As with the moon, a full Saturn brings saturnian issues to a head. The planet’s opposition to the Sun – the light of our world – makes it seem that much more harsh right now. It’s restrictive qualities are amplifying our experience of lack in some area of life. For example, if Saturn is transiting your 1st house you might be feeling some intense insecurity about your appearance. If it’s your 2nd house, you might find yourself in a financial pickle.

What ever the case, the influence can be really painful, but this is no time to drown your sorrows in gin or gingerbread. The intensity of the pain your feeling is temporary, but it indicates an area of your life where you need to buckle down and get work. Feeling bad about your looks? It might be time to admit that you’ve been sloppy about taking care of yourself. Are you broke? It might be time to admit that you’ve been sloppy with your money. Set realistic goals for improvement and get to work on them now. You’ll get their if you just keep at it and in the meantime understand this: even at your sloppiest you are deserving of Love.
