One of the downsides of a blog is that excellent posts get buried in the archives pretty quickly. You can always browse all the Sex & Relationship posts—all four years’ worth. But now that the year is wrapping up, I thought I’d highlight the most popular posts of 2010 (that were published in 2010—if you want to see the most popular posts of all time, check out the sidebar).
Note that I’m not including Fern Feto Spring’s excellent Venus-Mars Compatibility series or the weekly and monthly horoscopes. Just our prime cuts.
Before I get into the details, I want to proudly announce that I wrote two whole posts this year. Unlike some of the more prolific writers in the astrology world, I have little to say. (Or at least I only say something when I feel truly inspired, which I guess is not often. Or rather, my inspiration has lately been channeled into behind-the-scenes work.)
And without further ado, here are the most popular blog posts of the year. My rankings are based on total pageviews and numbers of comments.
- Black Moon Lilith in Synastry—This post on the dark goddess by Marina Caruso of DarkStar Astrology was the most highly trafficked post, due in no small part to promotion on her previous blog, Funkastrology, as well as healthy search traffic.
- The Top Five Synastry Aspects for a Significant Relationship—One of the great new additions to Sasstrology in 2010 was guest blogger Nadia Gilchrist. Her posts are always brimmed with practical information about astrological compatibility, and she frequently provides specific examples to help illustrate her points. In addition, her posts elicit numerous comments, thanks to her helpful participation in the discussion. She knows when to give some useful info and when to draw clear boundaries when some folks basically ask for a free reading, a trait I always admire in a blogger.
- How to Seduce Your Partner by Sign—This post is by Hilary Young, founder of AstrologyDating.com.
- Virgos Are Narcissists—Boy, this was the most controversial post of the year and elicited the most discussion. Of course, any time you make a blanket pejorative assertion about a Sun sign, people will take offense. Some think it’s just bad astrology. Virgos get their panties in a bunch. The blog even loses readers. But hey, every once in a while you have to shake things up, offend some people. If anything, it helped me clarify where I want to draw the line as an editor.
- The Magnetism, Charm & Attractive Power of Your Venus Sign—an excerpt from Jessica Shepherd’s A Love Alchemist’s Notebook, at better bookstores everywhere.
- Your Attraction Profile: Who You Attract and Why—Another Nadia Gilchrist post, and the most commented-on synastry post of the year.
- Libra Men: Are They Worth the Effort?—My friend Samuel Reynolds tweets like the apocalypse is coming tomorrow. One day when I wasn’t ignoring his stream of consciousness, I noticed an interesting series of updates about Libra men. I asked him to expand on his ideas in a guest blog post, and here it is.
- Your Ultimate Other: Romance and the Twelfth House—What happens when somebody activates your house of mystery?
- How Uranus in Aries Will Affect Libra and Libra Rising—A guest post by Diane Lang (aka Neith) on what happens when the planet of unpredictability enters Libra’s solar Seventh House.
- Reality Doesn’t Always Bite: Saturn Transits and Your Love Life—One of our many Saturn in Libra posts from 2010, this piece focuses on the Libra South Node and the Seventh House for Aries Rising natives.
