Love Horoscope for the Week of January 14

weeklyloveLife would be so much easier for astrologers — and for everyone in general — if we really were just the wind-up toys of the Universe, blindly obeying the planetary positions. Of course that isn’t how life works, and we all have plenty of work to do … mostly on ourselves. This week’s sky offers plenty of opportunity to work on ourselves and build better lives for ourselves, with Sun, Mercury and Venus in Capricorn. Coming off of a Capricorn New Moon, “plenty of work to do” is pretty much the theme things seem to be following this week. The pay is lousy, the hours are long … but if you manage to make a better love life for yourself, the benefits package can make it all worthwhile.

The first full week of Venus in Capricorn can be an excellent time for building on your strengths as they relate to your love life — real or potential. Towards the end of the week, Venus conjunct Pluto may sound to some observers like the recipe for an explosion — but properly handled, Pluto can add fierce dedication to whatever it touches. Make sure you’re dedicating yourself to the right emotional cause. And please, no stalking. Venus conjunct Pluto is great for stalking.

(That’s right. I’m telling you not to do any stalking. Yes, I know that isn’t your usual style, but please … have you ever tried telling a stalker to cut it out and it worked? Didn’t think so. That’s the problem with Free Will: yours may come free, but the Other Guy’s Free Will isn’t available at any price.)

The Moon — your cosmic Emotional Thermometer — spends the week in the Pisces to Taurus range, which can make personal matters seem a little more personal than usual. A lot of personal dramas will be peaking on Friday, with Sun square Moon (the “half Moon” to most folks): the caution of Sun in Capricorn is squared by the demand for action coming from Moon in Aries. Nothing kicks off the weekend like a little head-butting between the Goat and the Ram!

If you’re looking to lighten the mood in your love life, or just want to have more fun with your social scene, Jupiter is still retrograde in Gemini, and is rolling back to the exact sextile with Uranus. Jupiter sextile Uranus is exactly the kind of fuel that a lot of your tanks will require, but be cautious about your enthusiasms, and where you’re investing all that energy. Putting a nuclear power plant on a lawnmower won’t get the grass cut any faster… and could spell disaster without the right shielding.

If that all seems like too much work for your tastes, take heart: this weekend the Sun goes into Aquarius, and brings a shift in tone … just like “Hawaiian Shirt Day” at the office: it’s still the same old job, but there are more chances to have some fun with it.
