Heteronormative Astrology

VIP Sextrology links to our Venus-Mars Compatibility page and writes:

Unfortunately, this is in very hetero-normative terms but if you know your Venus and Mars signs, you can look up your compatibility with someone else here. Venus is usually referred to as female. Mars is male. Meaning that if you are a female looking for your compatibility with a male, you would look for your Venus matched up with his Mars. But you can look up both your Mars and Venus signs.

I don’t agree. The Venus-Mars page has for a very-long-time included the following quote:

About the use of gender in these posts: Although “she” is used for Venus and “he” is used for Mars, these pronouns are only used for convenience. You can look at a man’s Venus and a woman’s Mars, or the Venus and Mars placements for the partners in a same-sex couple.

Regardless of the couple, there’s an interplay of receptivity and activity, of Venusian come-hither and Martian go-for-it. The partners in a couple don’t have to conform to heteronormative gender roles for this to be the case.
