Ever wondered what to cook your favorite Taurus foodie? Look no more, as astrologer and celebrity chef Sabra Ricci’s in the house, or more accurately, in the kitchen. Ricci’s new cookbook, Lobster for Leos, Cookies for Capricorns: An Astrology Lover’s Cookbook, is a sign-by-sign guide to dining with the stars.
From cooking style to what to expect from each sign as a guest, Ricci explains it all from an astrological perspective. Recipes are designed with foods that are supportive or nourishing to the part of the body that that particular sign rules. Aries recipes feature plenty of brain food, for example, while Libra recipes feature ingredients that strengthen the kidneys.
As chef to celebrities like Jenny McCarthy, Jim Carrey, Julia Roberts and Orlando Bloom, Ricci has plenty of experience cooking for diverse and talented groups of people. While not everyone has the budget to purchase the sometimes pricey ingredients called for in many of the recipes, her menu items do showcase her creative and healthy approach to food, with examples such as Papaya Stuffed with Shrimp Ceviche, or for dessert, Frosted Lavender and Lemon Zest Shortbread Cookies. The book has a nice balance between meat, seafood and vegetarian recipes and also features many delicious dessert ideas.
Though the book has a comprehensive astrological overview section in the beginning, I think the space would have been better used by including a chapter describing the Moon and Rising Sign as part of the overall astrological food perspective. The Moon is the planet of food and nurturing, while the Rising Sign gives insight about the body and corresponding issues, thus the Sun sign focus of this book doesn’t quite ring true if you’re looking for astrological insights about your particular food focus. Overall though, Lobster for Leos, Cookies for Capricorns is an interesting cookbook with a nice astrological twist.
