Chiron’s Touch on the Personal Planets

When exploring natal chart dynamics, the Chiron Sun aspect presents a unique challenge compared to Chiron’s contacts with other personal planets. We feel it when Chiron places a chink in our armor. With Chiron/Mercury, our ability to articulate or take in information can be flawed. We later learn that we can move through the universe at will and take in deeper meaning. Chiron/Venus often has great gifts for self-expression but struggles to appreciate itself. Chiron/Mars feels inadequate to act until it learns to be a vessel for higher powers. Chiron/Saturn often has a problem with mastering anything. In all these cases, the pattern makes sense: Chiron initially holds back the energy of the planet it touches. This pattern becomes problematic when Chiron touches the Sun.

The Sun’s True Power: Conductor, Not Victim

The Sun is a light and does not behave like a planet. In fact, its job is to shed light on Chiron, no matter the aspect. The Sun often uses an illusion, convincing us that things are going the other way. For example, in a Sun/Pluto contact, you might think Pluto is doing a number on the Sun. The truth is the opposite. The Sun actually creates Plutonian experiences to help you use Pluto’s energies in a more enlightened way. The Sun is at the center of our existence. It creates and consolidates experience for us, helping our consciousness evolve. Yet, we are often deceived into thinking another planet is winning the war by attacking our power and our light. While Sun/Pluto aspects can feel like a death, this is really the Sun telling us we are at the end of a journey and must be reborn.

The Unique Wound of the Chiron Sun

The Moon is also a light, and a Moon/Chiron aspect is powerful, about releasing the past and finding security in higher worlds. But with the Chiron Sun aspect, we often don’t know what is broken or being wounded. All we know is that we aren’t what we could be, while simultaneously feeling we might burst with potential. Astrologers often say that this aspect carries a blow to the identity, but as Dawn Bodrogi explains, many of us don’t truly feel our Sun positions. It’s an interesting synchronicity that it takes fifty years before we can fully carry the Sun’s power, often not until the Chiron return.

A Feeling of Exile and Abandonment

To use the Sun consciously is another thing entirely. When Chiron is involved, we are learning lessons about our own divinity. With a Chiron Sun aspect, we may feel completely cut off from those solar blessings, a feeling of being abandoned by life itself. Sun/Chiron says, “My movement has no meaning.” This is abandonment of the deepest kind. The Chiron/Sun child may feel everyone else has a guardian angel but they never feel their own. On the contrary, having no one to rely on can strengthen a rigid, defensive ego that constantly braces against life’s storm.

The Ultimate Purpose: Unveiling Inner Divinity

If abandonment is not an issue, a feeling of basic unacceptance is. This is a continual feeling that ‘something is wrong with me,’ that whatever is created or built crumbles to the ground. This cycle continues until the person contacts the deepest, most broken levels of their being. Ultimately, the purpose of a Chiron Sun aspect is to unveil our inner divinity.

The aspect teaches us that we are living truth and cannot be truly hurt. Through hard experience, Sun/Chiron learns that life is a celebration of the divine. This placement’s destiny is to live life as a vessel for divine expression. As the poet Friedrich Hölderlin knew, “Where there is darkness, the saving powers also rise.”

Above all, Sun/Chiron learns that the saving grace of the Sun is forever within. For a deeper dive into this topic, you can read Dawn Bodrogi’s original article, The Chiron Sun Aspect: A Look at the Core Wound.
