  • Mercury conjunct the Capricorn South Node (26 deg)

  • Mercury in Capricorn square Pallas in Libra (26 deg)

  • Pallas in Libra square the North Node in Cancer/South Node in Capricorn (26 deg)

  • Venus in Sagittarius conjunct Jupiter (16 deg)

Mercury/Pallas

Mercury over the South Node brings a message/messenger from the past. A key person, conversation or realization involving authority or rules will emerge. Watch for the culmination of a topic that’s been growing in significance, or an official document that finalizes something.

Even if you’ve just met this person or just encountered this message, there will be something familiar here- a sense that you’ve heard this before or you’ve been waiting to hear this. This will be a very significant piece of information that will clearly define a current reality. Perhaps the line between past and present will be verbalized – this could be a formal goodbye.

However, Mercury in Capricorn squares Pallas, which squares the Nodes. A square to the Nodes indicates a key issue that’s troublesome and can block your movement forward to the Cancer North Node (an area of emotional honesty and satisfaction). Pallas in Libra is the social strategy – a solution or approach that’s designed to “win” (Pallas is about doing battle) but in polite Libra, the strategy is coated in sugar. This is social engineering and pretty words with a steel core. Winning the social/relationship battle with grace or passive-aggressive methods.

Something about these strategies needs to be addressed, because they are blocking your way forward. Maybe they’re inauthentic or outdated. Or maybe you’re not standing up for yourself (distorted Libra can be the people pleaser). The square to Mercury means the key message/messenger will draw your attention to this failing strategy. There may be tension between verbal boundaries versus being liked, or strict rules that challenge your current attempts at a social or relationship solution.

Where are your relationship strategies out of balance? Where do you need to be more authentic? What is the message from the past telling you?

Venus/Jupiter

Here is the aspect of abundance – more of what you want and love. Watch for an opportunity involving relationships, money, values and self-esteem. Optimism and a sense of adventure (Jupiter) boosts your chances of attracting (Venus) something favourable. Or, for some, this could be a moment of pure luck. It’s exuberant and asks that you have faith in love, life and yourself. Venus in Sag is about reaching into the unknown – something/someone you’ve never encountered before could be the key to a beautiful new beginning.

Remember that Jupiter is the promise, not the guarantee. In order to make the most of this, you’ll have to expand on what’s being promised. And, because Sagittarius is the sign of exploration, you’ll have to step outside your comfort zone.

Note that Venus rules Libra, so this connects to Pallas in Libra. Jupiter’s “more” does not mean “more of the same.” As you encounter this lovely gift, consider how you can change your relationship, financial or self-esteem strategies. Here’s a chance to do it differently and better.

January 21st, 2019: Pain and Healing

John Everett Millais

  • Mars in Aries square Saturn in Capricorn (13 deg)

  • Chiron in Pisces trine Ceres in Scorpio (28 deg)

Mars/Saturn

Mars/Saturn is blocked actions. There is nothing easy about this one – you’ll want to push forward immediately (Aries) but a rule, limit or authority (Saturn) will challenge you. You may experience this as coming to a full stop, or being pressured to work harder when your energy is limited. But the square also means there’s a corner to turn – it’s an active aspect so you’re not meant to sit there and do nothing.

However, you can’t charge ahead or openly express your anger/passion. You’ll have to show restraint, obey a higher law and dig in to do the work that’s demanded. Saturn always means there’s more work, so consider what your duty is. Where do you have to focus? When Mars in Aries is controlled, the output can be incredibly effective. Strength increases as you encounter resistance – you build fortitude and muscle. But you’ll have to slow down and be patient.

True courage (Aries) will consist of moving forward (with control) in the face of obstacles.

Chiron/Ceres

Chiron trine Ceres brings a smooth, deep flow of assistance. Ceres in Scorpio is profound nurturing – nurturing through pain, loss and the darkest moments under the shadow of death (the knowledge that nothing remains forever). Trine Chiron, we have the unconditional acceptance that nurturing often accompanies pain. It can hurt to care for someone. Or, caring for yourself requires total acceptance (and forgiveness of) your wounds.

The blend of pain, healing and nurturing flows together seamlessly, so this awareness might help you deal with the obstructions of Mars/Saturn, which can feel like punishment. Whether you’re encountering physical limits, excess work or a struggle with authority, know that there’s healing available if you open yourself up to it.

Aquarius Season: Center or Fringe?

The Sun enters Aquarius on January 20th, kicking off the season of the individualist. This Aquarius season will be defined by the Full Moon eclipse in Leo , occuring at the same degree as the Sun’s ingress. So we have contrasting themes – Leo passion/drama versus Aquarius detachment and logic. The Leo drive for appreciation/attention versus the Aquarian position on the fringe. Leo’s trend-setter versus the Aquarian drive to buck the trends.

But whether we’re talking about the center or the fringe, both these signs stand out – neither is one of the crowd. So this season could be about the ways you express your individuality. Have you been playing it cool and denying your desire to be appreciated? Or have you been wrapped up in ego games while a liberating, left-hand path beckons?

Aquarius is also about the future. There can be a vision of a better future – this sign can be highly idealistic as the innovative (or bizarre) idea of what’s coming up is better than what was or is. But if distorted, this sign’s energy can be about extreme bitterness and alienation, with zero hope for what lies ahead (the apocalyptic flag-waver).

But whether the future is viewed is hope or nihilism, detachment is always the driver. This is primarily an intellectual sign – the ability to stand back and analyze enables some truly wonderful (or frightening) leaps, unencumbered by sentiment.

This doesn’t mean Aquarians don’t have feelings, of course. But there is the ability to step back and view everything from a distance.

As Aquarius season progresses, consider what might happen if you stepped back from a particularly troubling issue – what solutions might emerge if you experimented with taking your feelings out of the equation (this is not impossible- try writing the issue down and only including the facts). This is an experiment, btw, not a set of instructions on how to deal with all issues.

Here are the aspects the Sun in Aquarius will make:

  • Jan 20th/21st: Full Moon eclipse in Leo (0 deg)

  • Jan 29th: conjunction with Mercury (9 deg)

  • Feb 4th: New Moon (15 deg)

  • Feb 7th: sextile to Jupiter in Sagittarius (18 deg)

  • Feb 9th: conjunct Black Moon Lilith (20 deg)

  • Feb 15th: inconjunct to the Cancer North Node (26 deg)

  • Feb 18th: sextile to Uranus in Aries (29 deg)

  • Feb 18th: trine Pallas in Libra (29 deg)

  • Feb 18th: Pisces ingress

January 20th, 2019: The Mirage Versus Solid Ground

  • Venus in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces (14 deg)

  • Mercury in Capricorn trine Juno in Taurus (23 deg)

Venus/Neptune

Venus in Sag is about more of what you want – great expectations regarding relationships, money or self-esteem. This can be a nice boost if handled correctly (faith in what you want and love) but a square to Neptune blurs the lines between expectation and reality. It will be easy to overdo it – spend too much, give too much, expect too much from someone else. Maybe you envision what you want but when you arrive at your destination the vision turns out to be a mirage.

This could manifest as falling in love with someone’s potential (Sag is about the journey and distant horizons) but ignoring what they’re doing/not doing in the present. The future (Sagittarius) fantasy (Neptune) is seductive (Venus) and draws you forward.

Be careful with this one- the imaginative scope is fantastic, but you could end up severely disappointed (or in debt) if you lose sight of what’s actually possible.

Mercury/Juno

Mercury/Juno offers a shot of grounding realism that can lessen some of Venus/Neptune’s side effects. Words and ideas that follow the rules will blend nicely with a partnership that’s grounded in the moment. This is about taking a sober look at what you and another actually share and agree on, right now. What are your joint finances and habits like?

A solid commitment to the present will solidify a partnership.
