Mercury’s Transit of Cancer

Mercury’s Cancer ingress (June 21st)  coincides with the Solstice. Although this transit will be brief, it will be more significant than usual due to the powerful Solstice kickoff.

Communication and ideas will be highly subjective. Conversations will feel personal, even if they’re not (Cancer’s sensitive filter makes it very difficult to step back). You may not be able to separate thoughts from gut responses, and maybe you don’t have to. Today’s Sun/Mercury superior conjunction (a culmination aspect) suggests a peak moment – a buildup of feelings, released through words. It has to come out.

Obviously, this is excellent for having that discussion about feelings. Empathetic communication is favoured. Issues from the past may demand a voice, and Cancer can be quite demanding. This “shy” sign is Cardinal, which means initial withdrawal and self-protectiveness is easily overcome when something stirs the emotions (or threatens security). As you’ll see from the list below, Mercury receives some volatile aspects. So this won’t be a quiet transit.

Words that come from the gut can be powerful, soothing or hurtful. Consider if you’re really prepared to get personal – do you want that inner script out in public? If the answer is yes, and it needs to be said, just say it.

Here are the aspects Mercury in Cancer will make:

  • Jun 21st: conjunct the Sun (0 deg)
  • Jun 26th: opposite Juno Rx (12 deg Capricorn)
  • Jun 27th: square Jupiter (13 deg Libra)
  • Jun 27th: trine Neptune Rx (14 deg Pisces)
  • Jun 28th: inconjunct Black Moon Lilith (15 deg Sagittarius)
  • Jun 28th: conjunct Mars (15 deg)
  • Jun 29th: opposite Pluto Rx (18 deg Capricorn)
  • Jul 2nd: inconjunct Saturn Rx (23 deg Sagittarius)
  • Jul 3rd: inconjunct South Node (25 deg Aquarius)
  • Jul 4th: square Uranus (28 deg Aries)
  • Jul 5th: trine Chiron Rx (28 deg Pisces)
  • Jul 5th: Leo ingress

June 19th, 2017: Keep Talking

  • Sun in Gemini square Chiron in Pisces: 28 degrees
  • Mercury in Gemini trine the South Node in Aquarius/sextile the North Node in Leo
  • Uranus in Aries conjunct Pallas: 27 degrees

Sun/Chiron suggests that painful choices/information may undermine confidence. The purpose of something (or your purpose) may be in question, due to doubts about competence. Attempts to skate over the sore spot will fail, because the square as crisis aspect indicates you must confront what hurts – perhaps putting yourself out there and openly discussing/learning will expose the wound. Once it’s exposed, you can deal with it. Rather than allowing the discomfort to shatter your purpose, consider both sides of the issue – ego and empathy, power and compassion.

Meanwhile, Mercury’s aspects to the Nodes encourage you to keep talking/reading/gathering information. The more you know, or the more information you share with others, the more successful your efforts to move forward will be. Key topics will involve the past, and how those events can be integrated into the future. Gemini is uniquely equipped for this, due to the ability to view both sides of the issue. This aspect is part of the Kite, discussed here

Uranus/Pallas can trigger brilliant flashes of inspiration. Watch for bold, unusual strategies or odd patterns that suddenly catch your attention. There’s no logic to this one – it’s a lightening-in-a-bottle influence that can’t be rationalized. The initial idea may not make sense, but you should have a tingly feeling that you’re onto something big.

The Sun/Chiron square may shut you down, or shut you up. But today’s other aspects encourage you to keep talking. Keep looking for answers and consider all sides of your situation. It hurts right now, but the future beckons.

Overview

June 20th/21st (depending on time zone) brings us to the Summer Solstice once again. The Sun’s Cancer ingress includes a conjunction to Mercury on June 21st. This year, the longest day will include specific messages.

And the discussion should intensify with the June 23rd Cancer New Moon (conjunct Mercury). New beginnings will be saturated with thoughts and feelings about the past, family and primary security needs. The Solstice is the peak of light- a time to celebrate what’s ripened in your life. The New Moon is a new chapter, driven by what the light of the Solstice reveals. And Mercury is there to put it all into words.

Mercury can also bring up some questions. Do you need more? Do you have everything you need? Do you feel safe? Is there a family discussion that needs to happen? Notice the emphasis on the word “need.” Cancer is about need versus want. What you absolutely must have in order to feel satisfied, secure and complete. Contrast that to what you want, but can do without.

Mars in Cancer squares Jupiter in Libra on June 25th, then goes on to trine Neptune Rx in Pisces on June 26th. Jupiter amplifies Mars’ actions, while Neptune releases restraint. The Solstice/New Moon events should progress quickly. Hope for the future will be high and emotions will be full-on – the entire range (tears, anger, exuberance, neediness, passion) may be felt. Anything you begin (a new job, relationship, lifestyle, family) will feel intensely personal and (perhaps) overwhelming. There’s no way you’ll be able to detach from what’s happening. If you feel swamped, remember that Mercury has some facts for you. Focus on what you know, and go forward with that.

Aries

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) hit your domestic sector. Thoughts will turn to the past – childhood and tradition will be topics of discussion. A new conversation will be suffused with nostalgia or family issues, so it won’t really be “new.” You may churn over a longstanding issue, although there will be some fresh information to consider. Perhaps a new addition to the family, or a new perspective on the past. A home business, relocation or issues with parents/children may be themes.

Aspects to Mars in your domestic sector can trigger rapid family expansion, big renovations, or enthusiastic efforts involving a domestic relationship. There is a risk of some discomfort/arguments if changes are implemented too quickly. There is potential to manifest a domestic/relationship ideal, if you balance your goals with another’s. Avoid steamrolling someone with your good intentions.

Taurus

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your communication sector suggest an increase in nostalgic or emotional conversations. A new meeting/piece of intel may resonate with you on a gut level – pay attention to how what you learn makes you feel. Too, you could gain clarity about an emotional issue. Or, you could launch a project/idea that has tremendous personal significance. Excellent if you’re trying to get your point across while impacting others on a personal level (people will relate to what you’re saying). Discussions with siblings may be hi-lighted.

Aspects to Mars in your communication sector can fire up your desire to argue and/or help. You may have some passionate ideals that you’re ready to implement – you just know you’re right. For the most part, you are on the correct path, but know that personal feelings will quickly override logic. This is not all about you. Too, the pace at work can increase as you’re overwhelmed with new contacts and responsibilities.

Gemini

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) activate your sector of personal resources. Discussions/information about earned money or basic security needs may be featured. It may be time to verbalize your bottom-line requirements (what you’re worth) on a material or emotional level. Excellent for starting a new chapter regarding money management, increasing your rates, or tuning into how certain situations make you feel safe or unsafe.

Aspects to Mars in your sector of personal resources can encourage emotional spending or indulgences. Expectations involving career, success or romance may push you to celebrate before you know the outcome. Or, you may gamble/overindulge to distract yourself from a disappointment. Keep your hopes in perspective, and if there is a victory, try to practice some moderation when celebrating. For some, these aspects can indicate a lucrative business opportunity that involves creativity and a bit of risk – go slow and keep your impulses in check.

Cancer

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your sign says this is your season to start fresh. New opportunities, or a desire to walk a different path/move forward/reboot will be supported with ideas and inspiration. Watch for messengers – people who trigger powerful insight or present valuable information. A turning-point discussion may be uncomfortably emotional and intimate. Too, this is prime time for you to start writing/speaking truths about what you really need. It might be time to go public. Also good for launching anything that involves communication, research, analysis or advertising.

Aspects to Mars in your sign can boost your energy and enthusiasm. Great for diving into a new domestic project (involving a home business, relocation, renovation) or starting a new exercise program/lifestyle change. Just be aware that this energy can push you to take on more than you can realistically handle – before you dive in, look at the long-term possibilities and consider the pace you can maintain.

Leo

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your hidden sector can stir up dreams, suspicions, secrets or a gut feeling. Pay close attention to what’s being said quietly, or what’s left unsaid. The time between the Solstice and New Moon can be powerful for divination or tuning into issues that you’ve suppressed. Developments may be vague and shadowy at the moment, but there’s much more to come. On that note, it may be in your best interests to listen and think things over, rather than comment publicly.

Having said that, aspects to Mars in your hidden sector can urge you to speak out, argue, or take sudden action. There may be surge of optimism or impatience that pushes you to make a declaration. If you can, hold back and consider your options, before you act/speak. Your actions, or someone else’s, will be coming from your blindspot so you won’t be aware of the full impact.

Virgo

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your social sector can open a new chapter involving friends, groups or your relationship with the public. A new friendship with a nurturing, emotional quality could begin. Or, you could engage others with your heartfelt words. Excellent for touching others with your message – they’ll be able to relate to what you say, and you’ll move them with how you say it.

Aspects to Mars in your social sector suggests all relationships (group, one-on-one, platonic, romantic) can benefit from your increased energy and passion. Whether you’re fighting for a cause, promoting a business, or you simply feel like kicking back and enjoying yourself, you can connect with others on all levels, while boosting your self-esteem or finances. One note of caution – watch your spending. It will be easy to give/spend too generously, while trying to impress or help.

Libra

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your career sector suggest a job opportunity, significant discussion with management, or moment to launch a business or job search. Facts will be mixed with feelings. You can make sense of rapidly shifting, emotional issues. Or, you can be swamped by emotional issues that undermine your professional reputation or focus. If things become overwhelming, step back and concentrate on what you know.

Aspects to Mars in your career sector (including the square from Jupiter in your sign) suggest a moment when you can grab positive attention from higher ups, or put yourself in the best possible light. An interview or new job could be full of promise. Your ambition will drive daily routines or solutions. Enthusiasm can take you far, but make sure your actions stay within the bounds of what’s professional. Also, make sure you can continue the pace you set for yourself. Others will be watching, and your reputation could be impacted.

Scorpio

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your opportunities sector can open a doorto education, travel, legal matters or publishing. New information can lead to much more, as situations rapidly expand. Excellent for increasing your knowledge, teaching others or reaching a wide audience with your words.

Aspects to Mars in your opportunities sector will drive the above beginnings forward, as you’re encouraged to jump into something new. Lucky breaks or fated occurrences can put you in the right place – unexpected trips are a possibility. There’s a bit of risk associated with this influence, but for the most part, your actions should be well-timed. However, use some caution if you’re heading into unfamiliar territory.

Sagittarius

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) suggest a new chapter involving debts, taxes, loans, your partner’s finances or physical/emotional intimacy. A new discussion may uncover hidden information that makes you uncomfortable, but ultimately, you could feel closer to your partner (or closer to the truth). Issues around sharing, owing and boundaries will be important. Also good for solitary inner work, meditation or therapeutic discussions.

Aspects to Mars in your sector of shared resources can suggest an unexpected financial reprieve or gift. However, unexpected debts can also be featured. Much depends on previous spending habits, especially if a domestic partner is involved. To make the most of this, keep your eyes open for offers of help (especially from friends, groups or public connections) but also keep on eye on impulse buys and investments.

Capricorn

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your partnership sector suggests a meeting or significant conversation that opens up a deeper emotional connection. A new or existing relationship will feature empathetic words, and perhaps a intuitive connection. Parental undertones may also be featured, as one partner takes on the role of caregiver/authority figure.

Aspects to Mars in your partnership sector can accelerate the above developments, as passion and excitement move things forward. There could be a “dream come true” feeling to this – a new relationship will progress quickly. On a professional level, a business partnership could be full of ambition and idealistic vision. In all cases (personal and professional) make sure that the visions of both partners are aligned, and realistic. By all means, enjoy the rush. But keep an eye on practicalities – in-the-moment enthusiasm may not translate into long-term staying power.

Aquarius

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your sector of routine can indicate a new chapter regarding health or work issues. Clarification, improvements, solutions or diagnoses could come your way, opening the door to an upgrade or enhanced sense of wellbeing that integrates mind and body. Dietary changes are favoured. A new job is another possibility.

Aspects to Mars in your sector of routine will add fuel to the above, pumping up your energy, optimism and desire to make changes for the better. Work load can also increase, but this should benefit you, financially. Too, this influence could be about pursuing a new line of work that feels meaningful and enjoyable. Physical energy should be high, but watch that you don’t push yourself too hard.

Pisces

The Solstice and New Moon (with Mercury) in your sector of self-expression can introduce a powerfully intimate new attraction, creative opportunity or issue involving children/pregnancy. Messages about what you want, or what’s most precious to you, will be powerful. An excellent opportunity to gain attention and appreciation for your words and needs.

Aspects to Mars in your sector of self-expression (including the trine to Neptune Rx in your sign) add passion, excitement and ambition to the above developments. A new attraction may quickly become intimate. A creative project or launch can progress smoothly, as your confidence and desire for recognition urges you to pull out all the stops. For the most part, this can be a fun, fruitful time, as long as you keep your expectations in check. If you’re getting close to someone, keep in mind that the powerful connection can blur your boundaries. You may want to give everything you have, but it will be easy to forget about self-preservation. Watch your money – celebrations and indulgences can result in large expenses.

June 16th, 2017: Gentle Progress

  • Sun in Gemini trine the Aquarius South Node/sextile the Leo North Node: 26 degrees
  • Neptune in Pisces stations Rx: 14 degrees
  • Neptune Rx in Pisces sextile Juno in Capricorn: 14 degrees

The Sun aspecting the Nodes enables progress. Ideas/communication are the vehicles that allow you to work with what’s on the fringe (Aquarius). Choose (Gemini) to bring it into the centre (Leo North Node – ruled by the Sun). Make it your centre, or put it in the spotlight. Draw attention and passion to what you’ve been detached from.

This influence is very subtle. You may not feel it at all, unless you have something in your natal chart at 26 degrees Leo, Aquarius or Gemini.

Neptune Rx is another easy-to-miss influence. Yet it’s significant, although you may not realize what’s happening until it’s over. As Neptune backtracks from 14 to 11 degrees Pisces (stationing direct on November 22nd) dissolution, disillusionment and questions of belief will intensify. The goal is to release lies, illusions and limits. Think of this Rx as an intensified wave – what remains after it’s passed will be the truth.

Neptune Rx will make a harmonious sextile to Juno Rx in Capricorn. Two retrogrades strongly point to a review. In this case, it could be about the status of a partnership agreement or commitment. But a sextile from Neptune is so gentle, and this aspect is actually part of a larger influence. Neptune first made a sextile to Juno on March 21st, and will do so again, on October 24th (when Juno is direct). So this has been gradually developing since March 21st – a very subtle expansion of the limits/rules in a partnership. The review could manifest as questions you didn’t realize you had – going back to reconsider. But this should be positive, as the questions will simplify existing issues.

Yes, Neptune is about simplification. What’s false or invalid is taken away (Neptune is associated with loss). You release useless restrictions or guilt. Sometimes you have to experience an illusion, first. But eventually, that bubble bursts. In the end, all that’s left is the truth.

Neptune Rx is a concentrated form of simplification.
