Season of the Witch

Now that we are through the New Moon in Scorpio Lunar Eclipse and have begun the trip into the deepest realms of the subconscious, we have no fewer than five planets and luminaries as well as an asteroid, all lined up today in a Scorpio stellium: Venus, Sun, Pallas, Moon, Saturn and Ceres. The art and magic of astrology originated in the Northern hemisphere and the seasonal implications are less apt for the Southern hemisphere (although astrology still works there!).   For those of us in the top half of the world, The […]

Solar Eclipse at the New Moon October 23 2014

Although the New Moon tomorrow is an eclipse at the first degree of Scorpio, there is still an intensely Libran influence during this last day leading into the eclipse.  Four planets (including the luminaries, the Sun and the Moon)  are in Libra, and the Sun is aligned with Venus, Libra’s ruler.  Libra and Venus possess a strong but delicate energy – inspiring relationship and harmony, yet requiring a peace and beauty. This sensitivity will have to give way to tougher stuff when the Moon and Sun conjoin at the New Moon in the more […]

Astrology and Islam don’t get along (now)

…according to this article in the Saudi Gazette (thanks Elsa): Belief in astrology and the casting of horoscopes are in clear opposition to the letter and spirit of Islam. It is really the empty soul, which has not tasted real Iman (belief) that seeks out these paths. Essentially these paths, represent a vain attempt to escape Qadr (predistination). The ignorant believe that if they know what is in store for them tomorrow, they can prepare for them today. In that way, they may avoid the bad and ensure the good. Yet, Allah’s […]

The astrology of the October 2014 stock market

October is not often a good month for the stock market. But in a market that is overvalued and long overdue for a correction, combined with fears over war and infectious diseases, American optimism hit a new low this week with a precipitous plunge in the markets. The (Sibley) astrological chart for the US has Sagittarius rising, and Sagittarius likes to do everything in a bigger than life fashion.  Americans are famous for overreacting (witness the current hysteria over ebola) and there has been plenty of bad news to react […]

Mercury Retrograde Musings: Blogging is hard

When Mercury is retrograde we tend to look back at the past and revise things.  This morning I was going through my list of astrology blogs that I have followed over the years and discovered that almost half of the blogs on my list are inactive.  Several of them ended with posts that explain why the astrologers aren’t writing any more. When I began this blog in November of 2005 there were just a handful of astrology bloggers.  Of those originals, some of us –  Elsa Panizzon, Robert Wilkinson,  Jeffrey Kishner, April Elliott Kent, Nancy Sommers, Eric […]

RIP Robin Williams, the astrology of Mars and depression

Robin Williams lost a long battle against depression and substance abuse when he took his own life this week at the age of 63.  Like many comedic geniuses, Williams had a dark side that was evident in some of his darker film roles which allowed the multidimensionality of his personality to emerge through the veneer of hilarity. Depression and addiction take many forms in the astrological chart.  A prominent Saturn can cause depression through a sense of one’s own failure.  A strong Chiron can bring one’s inner wounds to the surface […]

The sparkling light of the Aquarius Super Moon, August 10 2014

The Moon is full in Aquarius on August 10th – the second Supermoon (TM Richard Nolle) of the summer.  When the Full Moon is a Supermoon it appears larger than usual in the sky and its influence is more powerful.  Full Moons represent the culmination of our emotional awareness – the peak of insight and intuition and an opening of the heart. Aquarius is known as the Water Bearer – while Aquarius is an air sign and tends to be rather uncomfortable in the realm of feelings, it acts as […]

Soulmates: Are you really made for each other?

As an astrologer I am often asked for an analysis of compatibility between two charts.  “Is this person my soulmate?” is usually the way the question is phrased.  The idea that there is one perfect person who is just made for us, a “twin flame” as it is often described, is a captivating one.  We may feel that once we find this perfect person, who harmonizes with us in every way, we would feel whole and complete and our lives would be made more satisfactory. What I have seen in […]
