The reason so many New Year’s Resolutions fail is that there is absolutely no astrological significance specific to January 1st at midnight. If you want a real beginning of a new cycle, try a New Moon in Aries<\/b>, which is what’s happening Monday. If there’s something you really want to change about your life, plant your flag firmly in the ground on Monday and make it stick. Don’t make it too complicated, and don’t be too demanding — and then put in the work.<\/p>\n

The biggest aspect happening this week is Jupiter square Pluto<\/b>, which is exact on Thursday but hovers over the entire week. If that Resolution I mentioned in the last paragraph requires a bit of fanatical devotion on your part, Jupiter square Pluto can provide the moral and philosophical backbone you’ll need to build on. On the other hand, if you already have some sort of a fanatic trying to impose his\/her will on your life, this could be the time when that person becomes their most dedicated. Since we are still under the influence of a mostly-unaspected (and often cranky) Mars in Taurus, this could make for some explosive situations. Then again: if your personal life is carrying a little too much dead wood, now could be the time to break out your ax.<\/p>\n

Knowing what, where, and how to cut something or someone loose should only be done after a little rational thought. Mercury in Taurus<\/b> (which happens on Friday) is a lot better suited to thinking things through than Mercury in Aries was. Any planet in Taurus doesn’t usually like to be rushed, but you might want to push it a little with your communications, short trips, and agreements: Mercury turns retrograde on April 9th<\/b>, and we are in a period now called “The Mercury Storm.” No, that’s not the name of the Ford convertible your Dad drove in High School — it’s more like a sneak preview of the screwiness Mercury functions often undergo during the retrograde period.<\/p>\n

Your weekend dating outlook has a lot to offer, despite Venus still being retrograde<\/b>. On Friday and Saturday, the Moon is in Gemini<\/b>, which is always good for chatting someone up. On Sunday, the Moon enters Cancer<\/b>, which is a lot more soulful and heartfelt. Either way, there are two important things to keep in mind. One is that Venus retrogrades back into Pisces on Sunday<\/b>, which is the Sign of Exaltation for Venus. Even though she’s retrograde, the Love Goddess might be smiling favorably upon your romantic endeavors in the next couple of weeks. And (even though Saturday is April Fool’s Day) Venus in Pisces isn’t the type of girl to lead you too far astray when it comes to romance. Deception?
