One of the mixed blessings of a composite chart<\/a> is that it can repeat certain natal aspects of the partners. If those aspects are positive, it’s a clear bonus, because the energy is amplified in the relationship. But if those aspects are challenging, the couple can find themselves dealing with an intensified version of their own self-destructive habits or blind spots. If one or both have not dealt with their issues, these can become fault lines. On the plus side, this allows them to confront their issues, because the partnership makes it unavoidable.<\/p>\n

One Partner’s Issues Become Both Partners’ Issues<\/h2>\n

When the natal aspect of one partner is echoed in the composite chart, the couple is strongly impacted by that area of the relationship, for better or worse.<\/strong> For example, Mr. Saturn has a natal Moon\/Saturn conjunction. Emotionally, he is cautious and defensive, but also prepared to offer 110% commitment. That Moon\/Saturn conjunction is repeated in the composite chart, albeit in a different sign. Even if the composite conjunction does not aspect Mr. Saturn’s natal conjunction, he still resonates with the relationship’s emotional restraint.<\/em>\u00a0He feels some level of comfort, because’s Saturn’s limits around the Moon’s emotional expression is familiar to him. But, the composite Moon\/Saturn conjunction can also exacerbate his tendency to shut down when he feels unsafe.<\/p>\n

Now, let’s say Mr. Jupiter (his partner) has a natal Venus\/Jupiter opposition, which is echoed in the composite Venus\/Jupiter square. A square and opposition are different aspects, but they are both hard aspects. When Venus and Jupiter are involved, hard aspects\u00a0can increase the tendency to go overboard with spending money or expressing affection. Mr. Jupiter is hugely demonstrative and optimistic. This is repeated in the relationship: both partners overindulge in food, fun and expensive goodies (although Mr. Jupiter is the instigator). Even though the composite Venus\/Jupiter connection does not aspect his natal Venus\/Jupiter, he resonates with this energy and it pushes him to spend even more, and shower Mr. Saturn with expansive declarations of love. This is certainly not a bad thing, but he has problems handling debt and boredom (hard aspects to Jupiter can create a restless desire for the next big thing). These issues are exacerbated as well. And he certainly isn’t comfortable with the feeling that he can never quite get close to Mr. Saturn. For his part, Mr. Saturn feels a mix of pleasure and panic at the relationship’s excessiveness.<\/p>\n

How these two deal with the conflicting energies depends on the rest of the composite chart, as well as their own readiness to confront their respective Saturn and Jupiter issues. It’s always a good idea to look for moderating composite aspects. If the composite Moon\/Saturn conjunction forms a harmonious trine to composite Uranus, there’s a conduit of flexibility, via the composite house and sign that Uranus sits in. This can prevent their emotional connection from becoming rigid or stagnant. If Mr. Jupiter’s natal Uranus trines the composite Moon\/Saturn, he becomes that conduit, and this can also help him deal with his feelings of frustration in the relationship. Maybe his natal Uranus sits in his 3rd House of communication and information; he can use his innovative way of thinking\/talking to create chinks in the emotional walls. Their composite Moon\/Saturn conjunction will always feature some emotional restraint, but it doesn’t have to have to result in a total shutdown.<\/p>\n

Both Partners’ Issues Are Magnified<\/h2>\n

Sometimes, both partners share the same aspect, and that aspect is repeated in the composite chart. This becomes a dominant factor in the relationship.<\/strong>\u00a0Mr. and Mrs. Uranus both have natal Moon\/Uranus conjunctions. The conjunction is repeated in the composite chart. This will occur if the partners have their natal Moon\/Uranus in the same sign, or in signs that are side by side (since all composite planets are the midpoints between natal planets of both partners).<\/p>\n

Both are accustomed to having things their way, and they express their feelings erratically, especially when feeling trapped or pressured. They understand this about themselves and each other, so they create a relationship that allows them significant freedom. Maybe they travel for work, and then come together for a few weeks, at a mutually agreed upon time and location. At the same time, any Shadow issues that each person has will also be amplified. Let’s say they both have difficulties staying emotionally present when the going gets rough (Moon\/Uranus feels safest when it can detach during times of crisis). When the relationship hits a rocky patch that wouldn’t make a different couple blink, these two may need to actively work on sticking together (if that’s what they want).<\/p>\n

The repeated theme is not always as neat as a conjunction. Mr. Pluto has a Venus\/Pluto conjunction, while Mrs. Pluto has a Venus\/Pluto opposition. They both deal with issues of power and manipulation (Pluto) regarding how they give and receive love (Venus). The conjunction indicates fusion, while the opposition indicates push\/pull and projection. In the composite chart, this shows up as a Venus\/Pluto square.<\/p>\n

At this point, it’s important to examine the meaning of the aspects involved. A conjunction is a brand new cycle for Mr. Pluto. If we consider that his current life is one of many, he may not have dealt with Venus\/Pluto issues in his past lives. In this new chapter, he’s learning about merging (Pluto) with another while establishing his own desires\/values. The opposition is a culmination, and Mrs. Pluto has dealt with her Venus\/Pluto issues over many lifetimes. At this point, she is learning through confrontations with others. The subjective energy of the Venus\/Pluto conjunction (which we can assume she started out with many life times ago) is now at the point where it must be put into an objective context.<\/p>\n

Because they are at different points in their development, this produces a crisis in the relationship, signified by the composite square. “Crisis” sounds alarming, but it’s really just another word for the tension of the square. The friction draws their attention to the trouble areas of their relationship. What can they learn from each other, via their different levels of development?\u00a0A composite Venus\/Pluto square can manifest as power struggles with each other, but also binding passion that holds them together so they can both evolve through the relationship. The struggles that they encounter will play out via the composite houses and signs that Venus\/Pluto are in.\u00a0Note that there is a twenty-year age difference between these partners, which may play into the tension between them. However, the younger partner (Mrs. Pluto) is further along the path of her Venus\/Pluto journey.<\/p>\n
