his work, you will, at least, know of him&#8211;next to Da Vinci, probably the most well known and influential artist of all time:<\/p>\n<p><b>Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni<\/b> (6\u00a0March 1475 \u2013 18 February 1564), commonly known as <b>Michelangelo<\/b> (<small><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Italian pronunciation:\u00a0<\/span><\/small><span class=\"IPA\" title=\"Representation in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)\"><a title=\"Help:IPA for Italian\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Help%3AIPA_for_Italian\">[mike\u02c8land\u0292elo]<\/a><\/span>), was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, poet, and engineer of the <a title=\"High Renaissance\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Renaissance\">High Renaissance<\/a> who exerted an unparalleled influence on the development of <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Western art\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Western_art\">Western art<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-eb.com_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo#cite_note-eb.com-1\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[1]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> Despite making few forays beyond the arts, his versatility in the disciplines he took up was of such a high order that he is often considered a contender for the title of the archetypal <a title=\"Polymath\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polymath\">Renaissance man<\/a>, along with his fellow Italian <a title=\"Leonardo da Vinci\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leonardo_da_Vinci\">Leonardo da Vinci<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Michelangelo was considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime, and ever since then he has been held to be one of the greatest artists of all time.<sup id=\"cite_ref-eb.com_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo#cite_note-eb.com-1\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[1]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> A number of his works in painting, sculpture, and architecture rank among the most famous in existence.<sup id=\"cite_ref-eb.com_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo#cite_note-eb.com-1\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[1]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> His output in every field during his long life was prodigious; when the sheer volume of correspondence, sketches, and reminiscences that survive is also taken into account, he is the best-documented artist of the 16th century.<\/p>\n<p>Two of his best-known works, the <i><a title=\"Piet\u00e0 (Michelangelo)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Piet\u00e0_(Michelangelo)\">Piet\u00e0<\/a><\/i> and <i><a title=\"David (Michelangelo)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_(Michelangelo)\">David<\/a><\/i>, were sculpted before he turned thirty. Despite his low opinion of painting, Michelangelo also created two of the most influential works in <a title=\"Fresco\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fresco\">fresco<\/a> in the history of Western art: the scenes from Genesis on the <a title=\"Sistine Chapel ceiling\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sistine_Chapel_ceiling\">ceiling<\/a> and <i><a title=\"The Last Judgment (Michelangelo)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Last_Judgment_(Michelangelo)\">The Last Judgment<\/a><\/i> on the altar wall of the <a title=\"Sistine Chapel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sistine_Chapel\">Sistine Chapel<\/a> in Rome. As an architect, Michelangelo pioneered the <a title=\"Mannerism\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mannerism\">Mannerist<\/a> style at the <a title=\"Laurentian Library\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laurentian_Library\">Laurentian Library<\/a>. At the age of 74 he succeeded <a title=\"Antonio da Sangallo the Younger\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antonio_da_Sangallo_the_Younger\">Antonio da Sangallo the Younger<\/a> as the architect of <a title=\"St. Peter's Basilica\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St._Peter%27s_Basilica\">St. Peter&#8217;s Basilica<\/a>. Michelangelo transformed the plan, the western end being finished to Michelangelo&#8217;s design, the dome being completed after his death with some modification.<\/p>\n<p>In a demonstration of Michelangelo&#8217;s unique standing, he was the first Western artist whose biography was published while he was alive.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Britannica1_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo#cite_note-Britannica1-2\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[2]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> Two biographies were published of him during his lifetime; one of them, by <a title=\"Giorgio Vasari\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Giorgio_Vasari\">Giorgio Vasari<\/a>, proposed that he was the pinnacle of all artistic achievement since the beginning of the Renaissance, a viewpoint that continued to have currency in art history for centuries.<\/p>\n<p>In his lifetime he was also often called <i>Il Divino<\/i> (&#8220;the divine one&#8221;).<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo#cite_note-3\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[3]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> One of the qualities most admired by his contemporaries was his <i>terribilit\u00e0<\/i>, a sense of awe-inspiring grandeur, and it was the attempts of subsequent artists to imitate<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo#cite_note-4\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[4]<\/span><\/a><\/sup> Michelangelo&#8217;s impassioned and highly personal style that resulted in <a title=\"Mannerism\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mannerism\">Mannerism<\/a>, the next major movement in Western art after the <a title=\"High Renaissance\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Renaissance\">High Renaissance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fame is one thing, renown another.\u00a0 When folks born hundreds of years after you know your name, you have made an imprint on the world.<\/p>\n<p>To call him an artist seems to lessen him in some way.\u00a0 Creator?\u00a0 Is that a better title?\u00a0 Michelangelo certainly left his stamp on Western culture.\u00a0 We do that by thinking outside the box, by being unique.\u00a0 BML is all about our unique sensitility.\u00a0 Here is another case of BML opposite the Moon.\u00a0 But BML is not only opposite the Moon, it is also opposing a tight Mercury\/Chiron conjunction in the second house, which is food for thought.\u00a0 The greatest artist in the Western culture had Chiron in the 2nd house.\u00a0( Try to keep lamenting now, all you Chiron in the 2nd house people, who claim you can&#8217;t have any talent.)\u00a0\u00a0 Fixed houses are about use, and the 2nd is about our use of talent.\u00a0 BML ensures this talent is used in extraordinary ways, even to the point of breaking.\u00a0 BML will drive this talent to extremes, if need be.\u00a0 Particularly an extreme-oriented Pisces Moon.\u00a0 This BML in Lilith insists on being\u00a0individualistic \u00a0and going its own way.\u00a0 It needs to communicate not what is there, but what is not immediately apparent.\u00a0 He once said his job was to liberate the figure from the stone.\u00a0 When BML is opposed the Moon we have a mind (in a larger sense of Body\/Mind) and inclinations that are not common.\u00a0 We are more comfortable at the periphery of society.\u00a0 This allows us to observe.\u00a0 Mercury\/Chiron feels limited, constrained.\u00a0 BML liberates Mercury\/Chiron into the realms of the heretofore unseen and unknown.\u00a0 In the Pieta, we see suffering as almost a glorified state of grace.\u00a0 In the David, we see a beauty that is almost painful.\u00a0 It&#8217;s almost as though Lilith has turned the world&#8217;s strangeness and alienation in on itself, and learned to celebrate it.\u00a0 There is a Mars\/Pluto opposition with the Sun involved, and he certainly had his battles, artistically and ideologically, with others,\u00a0 yet he made peace with the mysterious inner voice that is Lilith.\u00a0 BML does not thrash out once it understands it must evolve in its own time and in it&#8217;s own way.\u00a0 The frustrated Lilith creates chaos, the focused Lilith merely creates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#160;
