If you keep your head though, you can work things out both in terms of how you want the world to be and what the world wants from you. When it comes to “using your head” in astrological terms, we’re talking about Mercury, and the Swift Little Planet is a major player this week.

The Sun in Sagittarius brings with it a tendency towards the philosophical for many of us, and while Mercury preoccupies itself with the mundane coming and goings, sometimes that larger Sagittarian approach is exactly what’s needed to deal with the smaller details of everyday life. The usual Sag tendency toward optimism may be somewhat blunted this week, though: the Sun is in square range of both Neptune and Chiron — both of which are powerfully placed in Pisces, and both of which have just recently come off of their long retrograde periods. Plenty of old emotional issues are likely to come boiling to the surface, as if from nowhere — and yet they are exactly the sort of issues that have been there all along. That particular psychological sleight-of-hand trick we occasionally play on ourselves can easily disrupt our peace of mind. One way to get through this is to do the hard work and face down the issue, and another can be to simply stay busy until it goes away. Psychiatrists may not think the latter approach is the healthiest, but there’s a lot to recommend it.

Mercury conjunct Saturn on Monday sets up a week where the logical processes can get a lot of serious work done, whether your task is self-analysis or sending out newsletters. Your words and thoughts will take on special power and significance throughout the week, as Mercury makes a sextile to Venus on Wednesday, and then Venus opposes Jupiter on Thursday. Mercury sextile Venus can make an artist of even the least talented amongst us, so if there’s a sales pitch or a love letter you’ve been holding off on writing, this is the week to do it. Venus opposite Jupiter increases longings, whether for partnership or pastries, and Mercury brings with it the words and ideas to get either of those at a reduced price.

So: how does one combine deep and meaningful psychological action with the everyday minutiae of life in The Real World? Perhaps we can take our cue from Thursday, and not just because of the Venus-Jupiter opposition. Thursday is the rare confluence of both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah. One is the traditional American celebration of wealth and bounty, and Hanukkah is a reminder that the miraculous can happen in many forms, even in the face of terrible odds. Regardless of where you live or what your beliefs and traditions may be, it may be a good time to celebrate that combined outlook this week. Life did its worst to us, we’re still here and there’s plenty to feed us with, so let’s eat already!

The recent trend of long Void of Course Moons continues this week with Voids swallowing up the first half of Wednesday, most of Friday until the evening, and Sunday evening. Sunday is of special note: the Moon is both conjunct and parallel both Saturn and Mercury, which is sort of like a double-strength conjunction. Do your best to avoid dwelling on dark thoughts about things that are beyond your control: this too shall pass.

Happy Thanksgivukkah, everyone!

Read more →

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[650
post-60023","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","tag-forecast
["GET
