Few things are more compelling than a fated relationship. There’s an insane attraction, laced with inevitability. You feel like you’ve known each other forever, even though you’ve only just met. You compare your charts, look at the Composite chart, and the past life\/karmic connections are blatant.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>It’s just so obvious the two of you were meant to be together. So why does the relationship end? If the karmic pull is so strong, aren’t you supposed to spend the rest of your lives together?<\/p>\n

First off, know that every romantic relationship is “fated” in some way. There’s a lesson for both partners in every encounter. But some connections definitely carry more weight. Sadly, the most intense relationships do not always equal lifetime commitment. Sometimes, once a partnership has fulfilled its purpose, it ends. Or, if one person gets in the way of the evolutionary agenda, it ends. But you can see these potential endings coming, via transits and progressions. This article will describe a few examples. Please note,<\/strong>\u00a0these scenarios suggest that an ending is\u00a0likely, but not guaranteed.<\/strong>\u00a0My usual disclaimer: you must thoroughly analyze both natal charts, and the Composite chart, before you can draw a conclusion about anything<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Transits to Composite Pluto in the 7th House<\/h2>\n

As explained in Jeffrey Wolf Green’s book Pluto: The Soul’s Evolution Through Relationships, Vol II<\/a>, Composite Pluto indicates “…what the evolutionary intention…of two people were prior to this life<\/em>.” The polarity point<\/em> (the Composite house and sign opposite Pluto) describes what the relationship is (or should be) evolving towards in this life. 7th House Composite Pluto indicates a couple who are learning how to achieve balance with each other. When they first meet, there’s a magnetic pull to “be a couple,” but codependency, enmeshment, or one partner calling all the shots is a strong possibility. The 1st House polarity point means these two are meant to develop their own sense of identity within the relationship. They come together as “we,” but must progress to “you” and “me.”<\/p>\n

This doesn’t mean the relationship will end the moment they are able to achieve this. But if Partner A tries to gain autonomy within the relationship and Partner B is threatened by this (and tries to clamp down on Partner A’s freedom) there’s a good chance the relationship will<\/em> terminate.\u00a0You simply cannot deny Pluto’s evolutionary agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This ending can be triggered by hard transits (opposition, conjunction or square) to Composite Pluto, usually by an outer planet like Saturn, Uranus or Pluto. For example, transiting Uranus might provide a wake-up call, where Partner B realizes they’ve been holding Partner A back. If Partner B is ready for some fast track growth, the relationship might continue. But sometimes\u00a0(depending on the existing dynamics in each natal chart)\u00a0it’s simply too late, and the transit to Composite Pluto is the final cut that severs ties between the couple. Having said this, major transits to a 7th House Composite Pluto shouldn’t be viewed with dread. Approach them with respect and the knowledge that the relationship will<\/em>\u00a0evolve.<\/p>\n

Transits to the Natal South Node<\/h2>\n

I discussed the scenario of Composite<\/em> planets aspecting one partner’s natal South Node in last week’s post<\/a>. Initially, there’s a huge draw (at least for the South Node Person) because this relationship was a major part of their past life. It’s a similar idea if their partner’s<\/em> natal Sun, Moon or Venus conjuncts their South Node. But the reason the South Node person is encountering this relationship again is to finish up that past life business.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let’s say the South Node person has natal Saturn (limits and responsibility) conjunct their South Node. In their past life, responsibility was an issue. Along comes someone whose natal Venus squares their Saturn\/South Node. The South Node person’s unfinished business might involve what they owe to the Venus person. These two are drawn together romantically, so the South Node person can make up for whatever responsibilities they let slide in their previous life (maybe they walked out on the Venus person). This time around, they get it right; they commit to the Venus person and fulfill their karmic duty.<\/p>\n

Then, transiting Saturn passes over their South Node (and their natal Saturn, making this a double-whammy Saturn Return). Despite their commitment, it may be time for the South Node person to move on. If their Saturn Return puts them on a path that the Venus person can’t (or won’t) be part of, the South Node person may feel the urge to pull away. Or the Venus person may move on. If a Composite planet is aspecting their South Node, there may be a gradual feeling (which peaks during their Saturn Return) that the relationship is now part of their past (but not their future). The point is, this influence will bring the South Node person to a critical juncture, where they may move on from their relationship (no matter how compelling it felt at the start).<\/p>\n

Saturn Transiting Through the Natal 12th House<\/h2>\n

In addition to soulmate connections, the 12th House also represents endings. It’s the place where you let go. Saturn transits of the natal 12th House always trigger a release of some major part of your life.<\/strong>\u00a0A Saturn transit is about definition, and when it occurs in the 12th House, it defines what needs to be released. Sometimes, that can be a romantic partner.<\/p>\n

In this article<\/a>, I discussed the potency of 12th House synastry overlays. The planet person can open the 12th House person’s secret door. These overlays also indicate that the partners were involved in their most recent past life. But sometimes, the connection is meant to be dissolved. That can become very clear when transiting Saturn passes through the 12th House. Whatever the reasons for the dissolution of the partnership, the underlying theme is that the relationship is no longer a valid part of the 12th House person’s life.<\/strong> Once transiting Saturn moves over the house person’s Ascendant, they’ll start \u00a0a new chapter. The planet person may or may not have a place in it.\u00a0Sometimes, 12th House partnerships\u00a0are<\/em>\u00a0meant to last a lifetime. If this is so, the Saturn transit will be a test, not an ending. However, the 12th House person will always experience it as the closing of one chapter, and the start of another.<\/p>\n

A difficult as it can be when a fated relationship ends, there’s a bigger agenda. Not all relationships are meant to last, and often the most intense ones are meant to accelerate the necessary transformations. Sometimes partners can respond to the coming changes and keep up with them, thereby moving ahead with the relationship. But other times, all they can do is accept that the relationship has fulfilled its purpose.<\/p>\n
